It wasn't, but that was because for some reason people seemed to think that sarcastic humor was incongruous with Muppets. Whatever your opinion was of it initially, it was definitely worse after the retool.

My wife and I just spent the last few weeks binging the entire original run of The Muppet Show, and it's a stark reminder of how Disney doesn't really "get" what the Muppets are supposed to be.

They were always equal parts silliness and chaos, but there was always an underlying subversive edge during the Henson/Oz era that is missing from modern adaptations. The show wasn't afraid to challenge its audience sometimes. All of the newer stuff feels very... Disney.

I recently read an interview with Frank Oz where he points out that he never retired from the Muppets; Disney just decided they didn't want him anymore. He can't even watch the new stuff because he thinks it's obvious that the current writers and performers don't understand the characters at all.

That's the difference between a show written by people who wanted to create something, and a show written by people hired by suits because they write tv shows.

I dunno, you can see the horny and the self destructiveness in the previous episode as well. She absolutely kissed that nun.

Did a quick and easy thread for Only Murders in the Building, because it started good and has only gotten better IMO. Last 2 episodes have been especially great, and the freezer scene got a good howl out of me. A good mystery replacement for White Lotus for sure. https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3978811

Reviews for the first 6 episodes of Y the Last Man are out and are positive. Apparently it's a bit more of an ensemble piece than the comic, with Yorick taking less of a center stage, and they apparently do well in addressing the modern, more nuanced understanding of gender.

Some critics cited pandemic fatigue making it hard to get into, but that's expected, and others cite it as less fun and more dour than the comic (boo).

Oh yeah I haven't even thought about how they'd deal with transgender people. Do you die based on your identity or what's on your birth certificate?

Thanks, I'm definitely intrigued about that as the dude has worried me. I heard he's knocked her up already, and apparently told his wife he didn't want kids so that's an extra layer of complication.

His Royal Watch segment on Seth was amazing and I feel bad for enjoying something so much that was performed by someone relapsing, but man the dude is funny when he's coked up.

He also says he moved out before he hosted SNL last year, so they have apparently been split a while even though the divorce wasn't official until it was announced like 3 months ago. The news made it seem like they had just split up.

I had seen things on twitter about people being angry at John Mulaney about how he's a terrible person for doing something to his wife, and i didn't get it and I still don't get it. From that video and looking at wikipedia, it looks like he divorced his wife, went into rehab, relapsed, went into rehab, and then met Olivia Munn. People were acting like he was cheating on his wife or something.

Yeah that sounds like, as swickles says, it was mainly the news media beind super behind on the original marital issues but then on the ball with regards to the Olivia Munn thing and it basically looked like he just dropped his wife out of nowhere and shacked up with Munn in the space of a week.

This season is much heavier on the Daniel Radcliffe and also a little heavier on the message stuff with Steve Buscemi spending an episode with a Native tribe learning that its not always about him.
