Mu Zeta posted:Who even watched that show unless you're over 60. But it's not the weirdest reboot I've heard of because Greta Gerwig is writing a Barbie movie. Watched repeats in the 80s, and recently put it on for the five year old, figuring he'd love Tweeky. Didn't recollect that half the cast were ladies in silver space bikinis.

Occasionally the early court room scene pops into my head 'Detective Bosch, just how many people have you killed?' 'I don't know' 'Thank you for your service' (referring to his former green beret exploits)

Just got the local coroner to change cause of death from 'materialised through ceiling in front of many witnesses' to accidental woopsie, no biggie they do that all the time.

Thanks for the Resident Alien reccs, first ep was great. Figured it would be something to play in the background while working but probably going to save it for the big screen once we're done with Search Party.![]()

Just started S3, it's weird that it kind of feels broader, I guess to ease in new viewers, but it's playing well off the horror of the situation they put themselves in.

muscles like this! posted:I'm still enjoying Debris but I'm not sure if it will really find an audience. It is very deliberately paced without a lot of straight up action. I am fully down with Debris now. It's a 'small' sci fi show I think lots of people may have wanted: Each week a new piece of weird alien tech pops up and causes issues, but not as crazily as early-Fringe, and the team deals with it. There's wider plot hooks and double dealing going on in the background but so far that's not getting in the way of poisonous localized terraforming or whatever. The leads are charming, have good chemistry, and actually seem like nice people (I miss Limitless), outside of whatever double dealing the ongoing plot's about to drag them into. I like that they're actually applying the tech found in previous episodes to manage, and not even solve, the current problem. Did anyone follow Reverie? That's a show I watched the pilot of and figured I'd seen every episode ever so didn't need to continue.

Speaking of detective tv, I started L&O Organised Crime for background noise during work and it felt so dated (despite being about covid vaccine heists and making careful references to BLM throughout) that I figured I should just watch Wiseguy. Wiseguy is real real good for 80s serialized crime tv. Ken Wahl and Jonathan Banks killing it. And the main mobster speaks with the exact cadence of an italian Lance Reddick, its offputting. My only real memory of the show from way back is 'the Tim Curry dance scene' so looking forward to seeing that again.

nate fisher posted:My family watched Wiseguy when it aired, and it was truly my first taste of serialized TV. I don’t know if it holds up, but in my memory the first 2 seasons were some of the best TV in the 80’s. I think it does for the most part. They definitely wouldn't run it through 24 episode seasons now, the number of close calls Vinnie's had is making it appear very unlikely he's not a fed. His handlers keep not pulling him out because they've got secret hearts of gold and they like and trust him so much. That's exactly why you should pull him out damnit. Annette Benning in one ep, wow.

Chairman Capone posted:I feel like the best option for a Stargate should would be to make it a period drama in the 30s/40s with them trying to figure out how to make the Stargate work. Draw in bits of dieselpunk, Indiana Jones, early UFO investigations to see how they tie into this ancient alien artifact, etc. Not well connected, but made me think to ask: Did Strange Angel (birth of american rocketry/crowley sex cult show) go anywhere interesting? Which seems like a strange question given the setup but after a few episodes didn't really seem to be making the most of it.

zoux posted:One of them was a Batman comic, and the one thing I remember about it was that the critical clue in the issue was a wrapper of Swiss chocolate. But the wrapper used the french spelling of Swiss, that is to say "Suisse" and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how it was supposed to be pronounced. This reminded me that all of NZ including the company used to pronounce Nestlé as Nessils.

Hmm, so apparently I managed to watch episode four of Foundation first (then two and three). It seemed like a really good prestige-tv-premier, leading off with apprent tortured protagonist Dawn jumping out the window, the Vault etc and introducing lots of stuff without needing to explain it, before skipping backwards and leading up to that point. So now I'm back at ep1 and it seems like a whole lot of unnecessary exposition ![]() ^^vv can't fault Irulan's butterfly costume Chubby Henparty fucked around with this message at 15:52 on Oct 18, 2021 |

God I loved Voyagers. I have a memory of the afternoon kids tv presenter straight up describing what happened, and that the show was therfore over, which seems pretty hardcore or inappropriate from this side. Wonder if my child would get into it, hope so.

Woody Harrelson is fantastic when he comes along, I heard he was in the show but I presumed he would just look like modern Woody Harrelson, it's wild to see him play so hilarious. Frasier is great as well as a rough version of himself than in the spinoff. I think possibly the most affecting thing I've ever seen on TV, at least what's stuck with me more than anything else I saw at a young age, is the scene where Rebecca lies on her couch and tells Sam she's too exhausted to keep dealing with the constant harassment, just loving get it over with.

Instead of watching bad kids' time travel tv, why not try short-lived 80s adventure series Voyagers? Working through it with my son at the moment, and happy that he's on board. Its fast paced, with good writing, competent characters and lots of heart. When I was 10 I wished I was Jon-Eric Hexum (RIP) and 30 years later I still do.
