I’ve been rewatching 30 rock this last week and I forgot how funny this show is. Every episode has at least one all-time greatest level moment.

Season 2 was an improvement for sure - the Lyra/Will stuff was great - but it took until towards the end for me to really enjoy any scenes with Coulter or the witches, and then I thought the finale was a step down from the preceding episodes. I really hope they’re given the budget to properly portray the really crazy poo poo in book 3. Is Lin Manuel Miranda still being a charisma black hole in the second season? He was awful in S1.

The rest is still pretty good though Oh my god yes, that first scene was perfect. I went in with low expectations but that scene had me cracking up within the first 30 seconds. I like S1 a lot, with the exception of the fart episode.

I can’t stand Gail, I get her whole thing is just being an over the top horndog but she feels really over the top in a show full of over the top broad strokes type stuff. I will say that even when the show isn’t hitting the highs it’s still great background noise while I’m doing something else.

I watched the first two episodes of Mr Mayor tonight and liked them, but is it just me or does it look insanely cheap compared to 30 rock? Everything seemed off a bit somehow.

Iron Crowned posted:I liked the two episodes of Mr Mayor that I saw. Call me Kat was bad, but when you compare it to some of the sitcoms that dropped last year like Carol’s Second Act or Bob Hearts Abishola it was Citizen Kane. That said, the only reason I even finished the episode was because my remote needed batteries and I didn’t feel like dealing with that.

I checked after I made that post, they both dropped in 2019. At least Carol’s Second Act got cancelled, but those shows were some of the worst TV I had ever seen.

It was almost impressive how bad both those shows were. I only watched the first episode of each because they aired in a block, but it was a car crash I couldn’t look away from. Easily the worst television since Allen Gregory.

I don’t know anyone who thinks he was a good president, just like “man, we thought he was the worst a president could possibly be and ohhh boy we were wrong”. Giuliani wasn’t well liked in NYC even after 9/11 (especially considering he was the reason hundreds of firefighters died compared to like fifty cops) and I know a ton of people that are happy they get to see him blow up his undeserved reputation and face possible time in the clink.

EL BROMANCE posted:First two episodes of Mr. Mayor were fun, but it really found its stride this week I thought. Plus the trademark Tina Fey 20 Jokes a Minute mean it’s a sitcom I’m actually laughing with, rather than just thinking something is amusing. Psyched for that. I’ve been rewatching 30 rock over the past month and god drat does that frantic style+hiring great writers work out well. That style also makes for a more consistent season-to-season thing, which is where sitcoms usually poo poo out. When you’re dropping that much stuff so fast the misses just kind of fall under the radar and you remember the hits; so even when you’re out of ideas no one can tell.

Every Lindelof show thread will for sure have a contingent of people convinced the show is going to be a mystery box that just strings along plot reveals. The Watchmen thread had the same thing, where people were convinced it was going to end on a cliffhanger for a season 2 despite everyone involved saying “it’s one self-contained season”.
