Mr Ice Cream Glove posted:That was a bizzare rear end episode of Dave I went looking for discussion on the show because it's so bizarre. You never know what you're going to get each episode, sometimes each scene. The most real part of this episode was trying to socially navigate the different types of humor between two friend groups.

Chef Boyardeez Nuts posted:I'm just going to my Kevin Can gently caress Himself prediction here: Allison succeeds at killing Kevin but next season she's been recast into another marriage with a new schlubby dude also named Kevin. I don't think that exactly, but it's possible she winds up in a similar situation. Depends what the writers want to say about the cycle of abusive relationships. I just hope we get to see "real" Kevin and his dad and his wacky neighbor friend before it's over. It's strongly implied that Kevin isn't as innocent-yet-harmful as sitcom-land Kevin, but is actually whiny, entitled, and manipulative. And a raging mean alcoholic.

I marathoned Evil and it is so good. The demon-of-the-week stuff is great, and the meta-plot doesn't get in the way. All the characters are fantastic, even most of the ones who get very little screentime. The Leland stuff is getting a little tiring, but maybe it'll go somewhere this season. You know how kids in horror shows are usually awful and drag down whatever plot they're a part of? This show solves it by having four basically interchangeable girls who mainly only appear on screen together as one character, yelling over each other in so much chaos that I wondered if they somehow represented the demon Legion. It's hilarious watching them enthusiastically blundering headfirst into traffic until their mom or Ben casually steers them away.

Escobarbarian posted:I liked the Kevin finale, ending was great, but I just wasn’t that big on the season as a whole. The glacial pacing really hurt it imo and I don’t really care about a large amount of the characters. Even Patty I struggle to care about, which sucks. It’s far from a bad show, it just fell real short of my expectations. I’ll definitely watch a second season if it happens, though. That's my judgment on it also. Great concept, pacing hurt it big time. There was a fantastic scene when her and Patty were in the car and they got pulled over. She revealed some truly psycho life-destroying stuff he's done to make sure she can't live without him. But after that the show pivoted to her treatment of Patty, and also the hitman plot which was just bad. That druggie hitman guy didn't fit the vibe of either half of the show. I wanted more hints of what Kevin was doing off-camera.

Chef Boyardeez Nuts posted:The problem with KC*H, is that Allison is always going to be the villain because she has to keep ignoring the easily accessible offramp of getting a divorce. Divorce laws were liberalized in the 1970s to a "no fault" system. You don't need a reason to get divorced and even if you have a bad one like "I want to get divorced so I can gently caress prostitutes" in 90% of cases the judge will just shrug and divide your poo poo 50/50. In that episode with the car they laid out a bunch of reasons she couldn't (Kevin stole all her money and makes her feel trapped. I'm not close to any emotional abuse situations but I imagine it's really, really difficult to just say "I'll divorce him and everything will work out" when you've been walked all over for ten years.) but didn't explore that further because of all the focus on the murder plot.

Open Source Idiom posted:Enjoying Only Murders In The Building. It's not going to set your world on fire, but it's super charming and likeable with some fine performances. I really like Steve Martin, but I don't like Martin Short in most things. Thankfully, even as an eccentric theatre manager/playwright/whatever he is, he's very grounded, and his wacky SNL persona isn't there. I know nothing about Selena Gomez but she's good here. Yeah, it's charming but not amazing. Tosk posted:Did anyone watch the new episodes of Evil? Spoilers for episode 7. Open Source Idiom posted:She's pushing back against it all -- the ingrained sexism and racism, and the stupid poo poo that she doesn't believe in but is still loving with her head. Plus she's literally just gotten away with murder so she probably felt pretty invincible. The monks were super inviting towards people who they don't know 100%. Even on Official Church Business, someone who hasn't been training their entire life can't be trusted not to momentarily forget themselves. Definitely appreciated the standalone Monster of the Week episode after the hiatus, but now I'm definitely hooked and wanting more. I described this show to my friend as "just as good as you remember The X-Files being, but with demons instead of aliens".
