No, I don't want to read your essay on how this breaded chicken recipe got you through the tough times and reminds you of your childhood and how it's always a crowd pleaser when you make it for your 5th cousin twice removed so you can reminisce about the summers you spent with your aunt on a farm in the 1960s where you got up at 5am to collect the farm fresh eggs that you would use later that evening to make the breading stick.

I use a chrome addon called sponsorblock that uses user provided time marks to skip over paid ad sections in youtube videos. So now when I'm watching Emmymade or Sam the Cooking Guy to see a recipe get made I don't have to guess how long the cringe pivot to commercial copy dialog will last. As far as online recipes that do that 'essay about why this is special to me' or whatever its about, I just try to stick to known sources and repositories. You still have to click on 'show me the rest' buttons when it shows you 1/2 the recipe and nothing else to prevent it from being shown on a search engine result; I dunno what to do about that.

My printer stopped working because the ink cartages became 'out of date'. I probably could have found some kind of flash over-ride for that problem, but honestly, what was I printing? Sheet music? That I can read perfectly well on my monitor? Its a muti though so, in case I ever need to scan or fax something I can probably still do that. Do you need an active phone line for a fax? Probably, so never mind. If you have a non-ripoff printer that you like to use, good for you but like 90% of printers are a waste of time and money.

Although, to be fair, you can print to an xps file and use that as a regular document for viewing.

D. B. Woodside's acting is one of the things that keeps that show from really flying off the handles. One part audience participation, one part status quo mindset, one part comic relief. And yes, I believe that since Lucifer is actually a big hit for netflix after having picked it up from broadcast cancelation, they gave it some extra budget for the final season. Its a silly concept that might have well have been "God Cop" from 30 rock but they did it their own way; I know its based off a comic book but apparently they diverged so much from that it became it's own thing.

Sure, but I think the point about audiences aging out is a legitimate one. I Claudius was once considered one of the best shows of all time, but it's also of its time. I'm not criticising its stageyness or whatever, more my point is that the kinds of people who know about it and recommend it, gave aged out of influential conversational circles. The same thing will happen to The Sopranos, The Wire, Mad Men, just as it happened to The Singing Detective, Tenko, Berlin Alexandreplatz, Cracker... It's a question of when, not if.

Classics are classics for a reason. If they didn't click with human nature to begin with, they wouldn't have become popular. I Claudius might be seen as having low production values vs poo poo today, but if you're consuming media made 40-50 years ago expecting modern standards you're setting yourself up for disappointment. There are plenty of tv shows that have outlasted the medium that existed at the time; just look at the crazy commercial tie-ins for the Beverly Hillbillies - cigarettes, those new fangled supermarkets, poo poo like that. That said, I watch plenty of 'tv' and I have zero ideas on what will be considered the GEMS of the 2020's era of television. I'm including streaming video as television since its still the thing you point all your furniture at to be entertained by.

Then again, it seems like the union guys walked off set due to recklessness about this particular gun that 'misfired' multiple times. Some fool using an actual movie property gun at the firing range with actual ammo just seems like the dumbest thing that shouldn't ever happen.

Katherine Parkinson is the only one I can't remember seeing in anything since, outside an episode of Sherlock.

She was in that British pirate radio movie, the Boat that Rocked or whatever the American title is(oh man, 2009, how time flies). I think most of IT Crowd holds up, except for that one episode with the trans woman. Graham Lineham is an insane person, but I still love Father Ted, Black Books, IT Crowd. Everything you guys are describing as potentially good is kind of bad tbh. The sequence where Matt Berry is chill and accepting of his girlfriend is gross, because it expects you to be shocked at how casually he accepts her. That's fundamentally hosed.

There are two episodes with Renholm's wife, and there are heaps of other episodes that are uncomfortable. E.g. the episode where Roy is mistaken for, and then abducted by, a group of disabled gay men during a performance of Gay! A Gay Musical.

The uncomfortable part of the work outing one is all the theater staff being over the top protective of Roy. Also the guy who invited them all being portrayed as a closet case, I guess. You're right about the wife episodes though, whenever I re-watch those are insta-skips.
