Ugly In The Morning posted:I can’t tell if you’re agreeing with me or not. My whole point is that things can improve and just saying “we’re all hosed, this virus is the worst thing that has ever happened” is weird, dumb, and not really borne out by all the other pandemics that have happened. No, I can't say I agree with diminishing people's suffering (then calling it weird and dumb) because it could be worse. I don't think you mean it to sound that way, or at least I hope not.

Ugly In The Morning posted:Suffering is suffering. I just hate that whole “we’re hosed, utterly hosed and there is no point in having any hope” attitude. I probably shouldn’t have called it weird and dumb but seeing the constant after effects of doomscrolling making this virus into some kind of supervillain that’s always one step ahead tiresome. The virus itself isn't the whole problem. But yes, in a vacuum, disregarding literally every other aspect of how we've handled the virus and all the knockon effects and collateral damage, as a matter of only medical science, sure ok, it isn't that bad, relatively speaking.

With an actual human performing, the voice and the actions are a lot more inextricably linked than with animation. Audio being massively out of sync bugs me for the same reason. So subs for live action, dubs, if they aren't total garbage, for animation.

I had always assumed that show was yet another procedural where a not-cop helps the cops (ala Sherlock holmes anything, castle, psych, the blacklist, and 8 billion others), but this time with aliens for some reason. After googling it, it seems I was basically right, but without the aliens. Which is moderately disappointing.

Even if someone hated the art style, at least it was an art style. That was some really bland design and cheap cgi animation, and that's a crappy thing to do to any show.

I'm relatively certain I remember Ricky Jay and Charlie from Lost being, uh, secret agent physics professors...? Or something like that Flashforward had some really cool ideas and then did absolutely nothing with them. Wasn't there a dude that knew he was going to die imminently because he didn't flash forwards or something? What a shame. All I remember about The Event is that it had Dr Weaver from ER and an airliner (and also it was bad).

Yeah that's the one. The main character girl, or her brother maybe, could turn the power back on or something as well, which was why Giancarlo Esposito wanted to kidnap him. It was so stupid, and it's a shame it didn't go longer.

Because the number of people you think will pay attention to the show solely because it's Discworld (and thus money you will make) is greater than the licensing fee costs. How accurate the assumption and whatever voodoo math they use to quantify it is, your guess is as good as mine.

Seems a bit odd that they haven't released anything on either of them, seeing how it's already spring. You'd think that they would put as much space as possible between them to not cannibalize each others hype, in which case they should probably get on it. This all makes total sense because you can basically just shoot the first WoT book immediately after the sets and costumes are done with filming LotR. I joke, but I do hope it's decent. WoT that is, I don't really think LotR needs to be remade.
