Mr Ice Cream Glove posted:Oh my god they are doing a documentary series on Netflix about Elissa Lam and Cecil Hotel! One of the creepiest unsolved death mysteries Ehh, after reading up on the story, this look really creepy and exploitative.

Thanks to whoever mentioned Mythic Quest in the year in review thread! Nothing earth-shattering but just a really likable cast - light-hearted, and fun. The Australian lead is really charming and I hope to see her in more stuff. Also, that fifth episode ... really impressive they were able to pull that off (TLDR - they crammed an entirely new, Halt and Catch Fire-lite TV show season into a single episode).

Is Black Monday worth investing in? Really liked the first episode (aside from the Girls guy being pretty bad) but feel like I never heard any buzz about it.

MorrisBae posted:New episode of City on a Hill was loving wild I've visited this thread a few time every day since COVID started (and p regularly before that) - and never heard of this show. There is just so much drat TV. Worth watching? Currently enjoying Servant and Painting with John. Painting with John doesn't come up much but really recommend it! Its a bit "like" Joe Pera in that is a very sincere, somewhat experimental "this feels nice and mellow show." Esp like watching it to wind-down before bed. re. Justified: Does the show pick up later in the first season or in the second? I'm 3-4 episodes in and aside from a fun first episode and a likable protagonist, its surprisingly bad - like even by "this is a network show" standards (which it isn't). Really hoping the writing picks up since so many people recommend it so highly.

Escobarbarian posted:I finished For All Mankind s2 this morning and I don’t know if words are enough to explain how much I loved that finale. One of the best and most intense episodes of TV I’ve seen in a really long time, that paid off every running storyline from the season beautifully (except that one bad one). Definitely my show of the year so far, no question. Thanks for posting. Really liked the first season for its admirable avoidance of (too much) family drama...until it started to lean real hard into exactly that. Was going to quit with the end of season 1 but will pick up 2 now! Also got into the Righteous Gemstones thanks to a mention a few pages back and its extremely...OK? I like everyone involved but its an OK version of exactly what you'd expect from everyone involved doing their thing and just coasting.

Is Berlin Station S3 worth watching? Have a very long series of flights coming up and want to make sure it doesn't get significantly worse (its kind of stupid sometimes but looks nice and I like some of the characters). Also, Servant is really great in a heavy, brooding way that is impossible to marathon.

I really did not enjoy the Y the Last Man premier - felt like just an incredible misstep as far as a way to start a show. Felt like hours of changing the channel, flipping through random network shows. "Oh good, another vignette of uninteresting people being boring." Do the next two episodes get any better? Also - is Rick and Morty bad now? The horse-sperm episode was bad enough I turned it off part way through and walked away.

Random quarantine TV thoughts: I'm happy that people are enjoying it but I feel like I'm in bizarro world reading praise for Wheel of Time. Just incredibly generic, boring "people in old-timey robes talking in a dark forest because we blew our budget on mediocre fast-cut special effects" tv. I couldn't get into See or Witcher, but at least they had some sense of a unique world, or identifiable characters. Also, they made some effort to help the audience suspend disbelief - the YA casting and feel has everyone looking like an LA model, just back from getting a facial-scrub and a new haircut. Cowboy-Bebop is OK. Every time the actors exchange more than a word or two I feel like I'm watching a hoky stage-play intercut with with good special effects, but its colorful and fun enough to have on in the background. Is Dave popular / doing well? Saw it mentioned once or twice here but haven't seen much discussion. I feel like its always teetering on the border of greatness - some amazing moments and great character insights but its a show with too many low-hanging gags and outs for the writers to be able to keep their hands off them. Foundation: the above user said is completely right. Invasion: What an odd show. I can't think of any other show thats spent so much money on very, very good production values in order to go nowhere and accomplish nothing. The idea is pretty cool but they do nothing with it.
