In America Dark Matter and Killjoys also aired together on Friday nights. Personally I think Dark Matter could have used an even harder retool because the actors were all fine but the characters and setting didn't do them any good. The episode where they end up in the past (our present day) was probably the best one because it made the characters have to actually act like human beings.

Although another problem Dark Matter had was that their ambition outstripped their budget so the show kept writing narrative checks that their effects team couldn't cash. The third season was supposed to have this massive war going on but we never actually got to see it. Similar thing with the space Japan story where one of the characters becomes emperor of a bunch of small sets.

Never seeing a single thing, not even an emblem or flag, for space Japan's enemy was peak no budget.

Reminder that Bryan Fuller quit American Gods because he wanted something like double the per-episode budget for the second season despite no one watching the show; Starz very justifiably told him to go pound sand.

iirc the s1 budget was like 5mil per episode. He wanted that doubled to 10m for a show that averaged less than 200k viewers. Big :laffo:

Even with Fuller leaving, if ratings are mediocre I don't understand why they haven't tried to wrap up the story these last few seasons.

Anyeay Invincible got better, esp tge animation. Still think the writing and thin characterization makes it a show I can't recommend but I def have a soft spot for a different take on superheroics.

Focusing on a young hero learning the ropes def helps, wsp with dad Superman there, whoch is unusual for the genre.

But lol at where that show ended its first season. Talk about unsatisfying finale.

It ended on episode 3. There are 8 episodes this season.

Because he wanted to have gay characters in his shows and the network said no! Jesus, yeah, let's side with the money men on this one. They seem cool.

What?

Reducing the budget is very vague. Could be that he didn't cut enough and was bitching about it. May be he was behind schedule again. This is Fuller after all.

Also you realize both of them can be the rear end in a top hat, right? Once again, look at Fuller's track record.

CAPTAIN CAPSLOCK

So do you think that's why Starz fired him? Because of the gay Djinn sex scene in season 1?

He was fired from Star Trek for being extremely behind schedule and months late with the scripts. I heard he was attached to 2 more projects after American Gods, one of them being an Anne Rice vampire tv show, and was fired / left both of them too. Do you think he left the Anne Rice project because he was making it gay?

Open Source Idiom posted:

Oh, and CBS was not happy when he announced queer cast members for Star Trek -- he wasn't meant to announce his cast at comicon before the roles had been "approved" by people higher up the chain. What do you think that means?

It means you don't announce casting before it's done. Discovery has a ton of representation, including a non-binary character added in the last season. I don't think CBS had some anti-gay agenda for Star Trek. That was Berman.

I can't say that I have ever wondered about Gaston and LeFou. Also iirc the enchantress cursed him because he was a full on aristocratic dick to her. Or rejected her advances. I can't remember. lol Disney.

I don't even like it that much but I feel gaslit as gently caress that the show with the best production values this side of Game Of Thrones, Toby Stephens giving probably the most intensely compelling portrayal of an irredeemable bastard in TV history, an incredible CARRIAGE chase long-take, shots of people clinging to masts being DUNKED INTO THE SEA in a storm and PULLED BACK OUT in one shot, and probably the boldest portrayal of a historical gay relationship I've seen - is treated like it never existed? Like I've only met one human who has actually watched it.

Don't like 90% of first weekend receipts go to the studios?

Why would the studio division of disney get a cut from the streaming platform of disney? I suppose it doesn't really matter in this case since it's all Disney in the end. I think this was one of the big reasons that the studios were pissed at HBO Max simultaneously releasing the movie on their streaming service: because they don't get a cut from that.

GreenNight posted:

Well the theaters never made bank on receipts anyways, it was more about popcorn, soda, etc.

iirc most movies have a 50/50 split of the box office revenue between the studios and theaters for the first month, then it increases for the theaters as time goes on. Disney is definitely big enough to bully the theaters for a bigger cut of the pie though.
e: only for domestic movies. Overseas the studios get an even smaller cut of the box office since the local distributor takes a chunk for themselves.
