My guard unit hasn’t done it yet, and who knows if it’s even going to happen.

We did do the stand down last summer during during the nation-wide protests, and that went surprisingly well. Most of the unit was deployed, so we only had about 30 people there, which probably helped. I found out the day before that I was the one who was going to be running it, so I figured I’d run it a bit differently. We blasted through the AF talking points and then opened up the floor for people to just talk about their experiences in an attempt for people to try to understand what others have gone through. We asked a couple people beforehand if they wouldn’t mind being the first to share, because no one wants to be the first to talk.

And it worked. I had to cut the discussion off after two hours because we had something else going on, but people still wanted to keep going. I think a lot of people (mainly the white, conservative demographic) really had their eyes opened to what a black dude in the South/military has been through. The fact that sunset towns were, and still are a thing blew some minds (myself included).

Too bad most of these stand downs will just be a waste of time because lol Air Force.

I hate most conversations on bringing back warrants to the USAF, because they're usually just arguments for bringing back the specialist ranks. It's always "I want to just be a technical expert without having to worry about the NCO/management stuff while also making more money than NCO's." I can never get an answer from those people as to why they should be higher ranking and making more money for doing "less" work. Aviation warrants make sense at least.

Also, being a guard CGO is probably the best rank. Not too much responsibility, but the pay is good, especially with OE pay. I actually enjoy most of my (limited) time in uniform now.

I was reading our squadron’s climate assessment results a couple years ago, and one individual (I assume) commented on multiple questions that we need to have FoxNews on the TV’s and not these other channels that are disrespectful to the troops. I wasn’t sure which tv he was talking about, because the only public tv in the building is in our break room, and is usually on ESPN on drill weekends, if it’s even on at all.
