ElMaligno posted:No it was kinda weird thing. Basically dude calls us about a case that may have happened some time ago and gives us a general area, he wants to talk to an IO because he has info. I get his name and phone number and he proceeds to talk about FOIA requests (??????) which fair, but has nothing to do with what the dude wants. Lmao. How about : you should tell the IO what the guy told you and provide his contact info. Done. 9 times out of 10 the guy that called just got fired from a fishing rig or something and wants to get his ex-boss in trouble for some bullshit.

If you fail all 2/3 methods or however many there are, you just need to talk to a counselor or your doctor about losing weight. Once you’ve had that appointment you’re marked as compliant in the system. The ACN explains it all.

Like 70% of the boat is openly discussing it...shits nuts What’s the main reason people are getting out? Are they mostly people on first enlistments? My only exposure right now is to the honor guard and they all just want to avoid underway and go ME.

Melthir posted:I mean there is a plethora of reasons and I'm waiting for the fam to wake up so we can move so I'll list them as applicable to the boat I was on. drat-a proper rant. I guess the IT community isn’t much better. We got millions thrown at us with the cares act but are still so behind the curve and inefficient it doesn’t make a difference. If TERA was still a thing I’d be loving jumping on that once I hit 17 years, but with everyone jumping ship-that’s not likely. I’m curious to see who the gently caress enlists for 2 years to clean toilets.

krispykremessuck posted:I’d be retiring next year and left at 11 years almost on the day. It was a rough call at the time but after reading everything all of you have said, plus the few folks I keep in touch with ... nah. A civil service retirement is gonna go a lot further anyway. Best idea was for me to commission and choose a new career path in hindsight. It’s nowhere near as fun as being a boatswains mate was, but I’m not dealing with a lot of the bullshit that came along with it-no more XO holding up liberty two days before getting underway or any of that juvenile poo poo. My biggest gripe is someone dropping the ball and begging me to approve a PR at the last minute. But at the end of the day if that’s what I complain about, it’s really not a big deal and my pension will be pretty sweet. I wish they would have had the blended retirement system when I joined though-not having a match on my TSP blows. Long term I think the military needs to find some way to step up to retain people, and BRS just gives another excuse for people to walk. Who knows-maybe they don’t want as many people to stay for twenty-pension/health insurance for the rest of your life is loving expensive.

There should still be someone delegated to sign off by direction. Deputy/logs? That’d be like everyone taking leave and not having an SMC around. If not, I’m sure they’ll shuffle poo poo around and throw their hands up at the last minute, call PSC/EPM if needed and get it resolved. Wouldn’t be the first time poo poo fell through the cracks.

ElMaligno posted:I did talk to my command (yesterday) and they asked me if they needed to do anything. I said no, because i was going to the YNs at a later time that day (also yesterday). Basically only the YN2 and YN3 where on the admin building and all they could do for me was to pre-sign some admin page 7 things that need to be routed. According to them the paperwork should be done on next Monday at the earliest and next Wednesday at the latest. Just lol at relying on a YN2/yn3 combo to take care of anything for you. Keep on their rear end about it.

krispykremessuck posted:Did someone’s career get nuked for posting memes? Replying to a meme with a meme. Shamelessly stolen from a subreddit: A member posted a meme in a comment using Trump. Someone comments on that talking about "supporting your commander and chief, etc." and @'s public affairs, MCPOG, members command etc. They have a back and forth about it. Members command finds out, tells member to remove comments and back and forth. Member does. Member is still told he is getting kicked out for it, at first they will face a board decision, but members command pulls strings at EPM and gets it changed and they are getting booted and will not face a board. CG Memes finds out, post a bunch of memes about toxic commands and gathers stories from people. Guess the dudes an SK2 with a bunch of years.

I loving love the ineptitude of my coast guard. Unable to forecast literally anything dug them into the inability to properly forecast the need for more personnel or enable better retention capabilities. As a result, there apparently aren’t enough O4’s for open billets and there’s a big dick swinging contest to determine which base is more important than the other. Still waiting for a phone call or any information on where the gently caress I’ll end up. Only info is that I will be moving. Melthir posted:In a world of massive bonuses and personal shortages how many years do you guys think it's going to be before this poo poo gets really bad? We got told not to expect a non rate for a couple of years. I dunno man. I have yet to see a decent carrot on a stick to retain anyone. They started doing bonuses for department heads on cutters and even investigation officers for prevention, but those jobs are miserable. It’s probably the same as it always has been to some degree. Our top people are leaving in favor of better prospects outside the coast guard where they don’t have to move all the time or be treated like a kid. Zukufnt (sp?) promised more geostability but the only thing I saw out of that was MST’s getting 5 year tours at feeder ports, and that’s not enough to make a splash. So when the top people leave, we’re left with a few who want to be in the coast guard, another handful whom are stuck (hi, I have 17 years in and I’m riding this out until 20 for the pension), and some others that don’t have other options. That’s definitely a pessimistic take on it and I’m generalizing, but I’m curious how this place will look in 5-10 years if we continue to be unable to Hit our numbers. They started throwing more 3rd class cadets to cutters during the summer so at least the cutters have some grunts around to do some deck work due to lack of non rates. What’s next? Throw some more to the sector to mow lawns? Future is bleak. I’m curious what Fagan says at the state of the coast guard and how much of it is attainable. I think we definitely need more money at least towards junior enlisted. The fact that people are relying on food banks to make ends meet is not ok.

From what I understand it's going live with all rates. I mean, the advancement and promotion process sucks anyways, so what’s the loss/gain here? Plenty of lovely test takers that make great leaders. Plenty of great test takers who make poo poo leaders. The one SWE I took before OCS was all about buoys and ground tackle for me to make bm1…and I did lovely on it since my experience weighed on station experience instead of black hulls. I think I turned out ok regardless of the test score.
