There are a lot of callbacks and visual parallels to ssss.gridman that make me think that it'll have some meaningful connections. I mean, SSSS. Gridman only confirmed it was a direct sequel to the live action series in the final episode. What they've said is that the new show is set in the same world as Gridman, and has a few shared conceits, but we haven't seen any cameos or anything yet, and it's probably going to be written to mostly stand alone.

It's part of why so many manga, even best sellers, only got half an adaptation. Trying to rush so much was partially an attempt to finish the anime while the iron was still hot.

Well, there was a sequel of sorts to Gridman in Dynazenon, and Nomad for Megalobox, so those are obvious. But for a non-sequel, Odd Taxi is really good. Probably wouldn't get great ratings, since it's less action and more grounded, but it's probably the best anime this year. (At least, so far.)
