You might think Surviving Edged Weapons is funny, but try watching it while the TV it's playing on is rocking because of how furiously the morbidly obese police officer using the stand to support his weight is nodding along as the narrator discusses the very real danger of Mexican razor-hats. Does that sound like a laughing matter to you?

I'll post it in spoilers if anyone is interested but if like comic/crime books you should just read the book (think Carl Hiaasen novels). For movies, maybe David Lynch's Dune or the end of Commando.
