I just read half of this thread yesterday and the most recent half today and I don't want bad stuff to happen to that one poster I want them to be happy and live life to the fullest and continue their passion but I also want them to stop posting their awful pictures and also their awful words in this thread and just generally go away. Reading their posts was truly the most annoying part of reading this thread. I'm neither personally attacking them or insulting them, I just believe they're very, very, very annoying in the most boring possible way.

I'm in Philadelphia where we have 100 degree swings in temperature in a normal 12 month period we have the infrastructure for snow and ice and severe wind but also most places have air conditioning. We've got our roads and things set up for floods and hurricanes. There won't be wildfires here because lots of water. If tornadoes start to happen more we are prepared because all our houses have basements. We're sort of ready for earthquakes because we had a ban on skyscrapers until 1984 and everything looks like poo poo already so a bunch of shakey shakeys wouldn't ruin the landscape too much. I can't see what disaster Philadelphia is not ready for.

I just read the last few pages and I want to comment on the Soviet space program sending the first woman into space. They sent one lady into space one time and then no other women for 20 years. It wasn't some woke statement about gender equality, it was box-checking and a propaganda exercise.

The more the Holocaust becomes a story, something with a beginning, middle, and end, the more we might start to think of it as a unique unpleasant thing from way back in the mists of history, rather than something that's a part of all of us right now.

Bill Burr absolutely has some racist transphobic poo poo inside his head but he recognizes his biases and tries to get past them. He's your lovely racist uncle, but he actually understands that he's wrong and is doing his loving best to not be such a piece of poo poo. Bill Burr is what you want broke-brained older people to be. You want them to admit they're wrong and try to change and you need to accept that they gently caress up sometimes. That doesn't mean you have to let them off the hook or endorse any of their pleistocene views.

I feel like it shouldn’t be that hard to get over those biases even if you grew up around those attitudes but for Bill Burr being stuck in that in between is a career choice. He definitely errs on the Adam Carolla side sometimes and shouldn't ever be let off the hook for that but again at least he loving tries rather than just endlessly crutching on "I'm old and you're going to cancel me!!!" This is from someone who thinks Philadelphia is the greatest city in the world. And Bill Burr is not a friend of Philadelphia.

If I told you there was a Portlandia sketch about a hipster bringing an old-timey view camera to a protest who tries to use it to take pictures of cops beating/gassing people, how much money would you be comfortable betting that I'm lying to you??

I lied, I made that up. But the crazy part is, I haven't seen every episode of Portlandia. And I don't remember every sketch from the one's I've seen. I actually don't think I'd bet any money against that being a premise for a sketch that they used and it's a lie that I made up myself
