Before the pandemic I went through a medical weight loss program and lost close to 100 lbs. Then eventually I got sick of staying inside and barely doing anything and started walking. I eventually got up to 6 miles, but my knees started killing me (being in my mid 50s and then going up and down the hills in San Francisco will do that). I slowed down on the walking but then finally was able to get Ring Fit Adventure on the Switch and gat drat I love this game. I started at doing 15 minutes a day to almost 2 hours when I was really motivated. For something you would think is simple it really keeps me going with the diversity of exercises and can be a lot more difficult than I expected.

edit: I use an apple watch to keep track of everything as well and recently I signed up for Apple Fitness + and am going to get on that for some more diversity as well.

i wanted to grab that game early in the pandemic but it was way too expensive. your post reminded me of it so i looked and it's half the price it was now! so i ordered it. i have been unable to motivate myself to actually leave and go on walks in the rain and dark so i need something to do in my small apartment, hopefully the flashing lights and tight cartoon pants can keep me interested

plan your meals. make a dinner menu a week or two at a time and buy all the poo poo for it, then the stuff in your house taking up space will force you to cook it. at least that's what works for me

awesome, sounds perfect. I'll report back how I like it after I get into it a bit.

grabbed some fitness bands too because they're about as much for a set as the baby dumbbells I have so I can flail around on the floor like a technicolor mummy

so, I took my bike from the basement and went to cycle for some coffee and ride around the park, it was fun and made me motivated to finally do some exercises on our new fitness mat, I struggled to do a one push up and more than five crunches. Can anybody recommend some basic home training plans for complete couch potatoes? I am legitimately scared right now, I have never been this weak physically, at least stamina is holding up and mentally I have never been better

a cool trick for losing weight is to replace your meals with some sort of drug. instead of breakfast try some coffee and a cigarette. want to eat lunch? take an Adderall. when dinner time rolls around you can permit yourself to eat one quarter of a plate of food or you can just take some ketamine. soon you'll be shedding the pounds

Make your own smoothies. Put 1/2 c dry rolled oats in your blender and chop em up finely, add yogurt, frozen fruit, protein powder, instant breakfast, peanut butter, etc. maybe some milk or ice cubes depending on what fruit you pick to thin it out

i make one all the time with a packet of carnation breakfast, some milk, and a carnation instant breakfast packet. Sometimes I add strawberry or mango or whatever, go nuts bro

If the texture is gross you can cook it into oatmeal and blend that in to smooth it out but it doesn't bother me at all to just do it dry. i often forget to chop them up dry first too and it still is fine to drink but just a little chunkier if you add it after you've already added liquids

i tried overcooking my smoothie oatmeal and it just disappears entirely now and thickens the smoothie. pretty good. Also I went to the gym 6 times last week (!) which feels like some kind of god dammed personal record

PokeJoe

I've been really into the smoothie lately. I've never been a breakfast person and I take meds that make me even less interested in breakfast so being able to drink an actual meal is wonderful.
Just throw some arbitrary frozen fruit, few scoops of yogurt, some oatmeal in the blender and thin with milk. Fast, satisfying, and easy to consume. Any other good additions? I'm wary of greens because I feel like they would make it taste much worse but I think I have some chia seeds sitting around 🤔

I got some more weight plates for my dumbbell set and now I actually have enough weight to do a few real lifts in my apartment. I also got a connector to turn them into a lovely barbell but it was the wrong size :(

Lifting at home rules though, I can play lovely music through speakers and blast myself with a box box fan with my shirt off since I'm a sweaty piggy boy

carry on then posted:

from experience, those connectors suck rear end and at least mine would get stuck hard enough to need tools to get it unstuck

give it a shot but if yours is like mine, once it starts giving you trouble just order a 1-inch barbell and some clips online, i was kicking myself for wasting so much time once i did that because it's so much nicer

i ordered another connector but if it doesn't fit im just gonna go straight for the barbell to save myself time. i want the connector to save space though i live in a 1 bedroom apartment w my gf so space is a premium even though i expect it to be worse than a straight barbell

do some grip accessory exercises. farmers carries and such. also you should definitely use chalk, liquid chalk is relatively mess free and works well

PokeJoe
Aug 24, 2004

i used to use gloves. gloves make your grip worse because they increase the diameter you have to grab. embrace the calluses

Speaking of, I bought the cheapest 45 pound plates I could find and the handle holes have such lovely powder coating that they're sharp and cut your hands so I have to take a file to them :/

yeah ive been turning the idea over too and i think an apartment rack isn't reasonable unless you just commit to dedicating the space for a cage. ive thought about building like a wall mounted one or some poo poo but everything just seems like a shittier version

also i like to lift barefoot but i do it at home so i don't care what you think

PokeJoe
Aug 24, 2004

theres literally a gym with a rack in my apartment building that i use sometimes but the convenience of having my own bar always available far outweighs it. my bar is covered in chalk and i leave weights racked all the time. i go down there for squarts sometimes tho
