Speaking of ridiculous and embarrassing pretend currencies, my wife was recently unboxing some long-term storage from her childhood and discovered her collection of beanie babies. Most of them in the unopened original box if it came with one, and all with the tags still attached. Her mom bought her a ton as a child and they basically just sat in a box.

Google and ebay have a lot of them valued between 5000 and 45,000. :wtc:

I think I need a beanie baby safe and a beanie broker

is that what they're valued at, or what they've sold for?

Make the full time work week 20 hours and raise min wage to $50/hr. Thank u.

It's also another bit of moralizing from on high where if Americans actually followed it, entire economic sectors would collapse overnight

if Hawley votes for it, all that bad press goes away but he keeps the support he gets from it. If he votes for it and can say he was the deciding vote after the Dems tried to quietly kill it, he becomes the best positioned Republican to win the big chair in 2024

I think the more establishment leaning Republicans will do as they have always done - get defeated by their fringe colleagues because they have no idea how to fight them

the thought of those huge beautiful industrial kitchens gathering dust as prepackaged stuff is scooped into cups in a corner fills me with horror

the potential output with even a minimum of labor and bulk inputs in a kitchen like these schools have is incredible, but I guess doing so excludes the middle men so RIP

Our system started contracting everything somewhere around a decade ago. Janitors, cafeteria workers, substitutes, aides, etc are not working for the school system (the older ones are, but anybody hired recently is a contractor). They work for some contracting company that goes out of business every two years and is replaced by a new business (run by the same couple of people).

I'm retired after far too long in the military and am getting a masters in early childhood so I can finally be a certified kindergarten teacher and I'm absolutely horrified by everything around me on a daily basis.

The military prepared me for a career of talking to small children, but I was seriously mistaken in my thinking that the military was the biggest failure of a bureaucracy. I also wasn't prepared for the level of fail that is the teacher's union.

if it's anything like the scam private schools around here, they go out of business on a cycle to avoid lawsuits that are piling up, and open up in the same location with the same staff and same current crop of contractors (maybe forced to reapply at a lower rate) but with a new name lol

Holy cow that's awful.

tbh the ones I'm thinking, I'm not sure they ever actually had students. I'm pretty sure they were just schoolfronts for some voucher or grant scam involving state level athletics

I live in the testing grounds for Pence's private schools btw so this is going to be everywhere eventually

also if a public school gets closed down here, there is literally a law requiring the entire school be sold to a private operator for $1 who can then qualify for renovation and other grants. There's quite a few who just work to buy them up and get grants and then sell the properties a year or two later, then use that money to lobby for more policies that will end up causing schools to get closed down.

it's a great system we've got!

I've been involved in some very serious (military) bulk feeding operations and the price per meal can be extremely affordable compared to what they're doing.

a couple people with a handful of hours, a commercial kitchen, and a couple hundred bucks can feed thousands lol, that's that's hot and fresh. If you're going donations and takeaway boxes the ratios get better

Something I don’t get. If shorting never requires selling a borrowed amount of stock and is just a uhh side bet (?). How does it affect the price of a stock? I thought the whole point of if you had a lot of shorts then that meant lots of people would be selling borrowed stock dropping the price of said stock.

As I understand it, people putting loads of cash into GME is making it number go up, and as it rises some of these contracts come due, meaning the vultures have to scramble for shares, which drives the price up even more, and so on until trading is halted a dozen times in the hopes that it'll get them to knock it off

Raccooon posted:

From cumshitter’s post it sounded like the short sellers who lose never need to buy the stock just provide the cash differential. Like their bet would never need to impact the stock price directly as they never would buy or sell it directly.

Yeah but they're buying the shares as a means to lessen the pain, which in cases like this means having to go to the people who are collaborating to never sell until it hits a certain level

I wonder many many hedge funds trying to buy shares to hedge their risk are instead putting themselves on the radar of the next big pump because of that activity
