WMOTYC: Tony Deppen vs. Jordan Oliver, GCW The Ironman Challenge 1/30 Knowing GCW and Deppen, you could maybe read this as a parody of self-indulgent indie epics. But that's being very generous -- whether intentional or not, it just loving sucked. The first problem is that it's an Iron Man match that ended on a draw, the most tired trope in wrestling. Just loving do a decisive winner for once! The match wasn't very exciting to begin with, but then it got turned into another hour and the whole thing just fell apart. They had maybe 20 minutes of good ideas stretched out into the longest 2 hours of my life. I'm a big fan of Deppen but he couldn't save this. Whatever they were going for, almost none of it worked. WMOTYC: GoD vs. Dangerous Tekkers, NJPW New Beginning in Hiroshima, 2/10 I don't even care if you liked the story or the finish, we didn't need to sit through 30 loving minutes of extremely mediocre GoD wrestling to get there. Absolute waste of time.

HM: SHO vs. Hiromu Takahashi, NJPW New Beginning Hiroshima 2/10 Really good, but didn't quite hit the highs I was hoping for and dragged at points. Felt like one of those NJPW main events that just goes long for long's sake, and could've been improved cutting 10-15 minutes. This HM means I both loved the match and wished it could've been even better.

I'll go HM for Archer/Fenix only because I feel like they just missed their peak and were rushing to the finish before going off the air (for a second I thought they were going to a draw to pay off that "TV time remaining" thing they've set up since the beginning of Dynamite and haven't done yet, but then it just ended so oh well). But only a small nitpick for what was otherwise a fantastic match.

WMOTYC: EVIL vs. Jeff Cobb, New Japan Cup 3/11 Say, what if we had a lovely EVIL match with all the usual bullshit, but it also forced Cobb to revert into "face in peril" mode which he's never been good at? Then do I have the match for you. Cobb did some cool poo poo as always, but it couldn't save this punishingly dull slog.

HM: Johnny Gargano vs. Bronson Reed, NXT Takeover 4/8 Like most Gargano matches, this went too long and missed its peak by several minutes, but it was drat good wrestling. Felt like a coming-out party for Reed.
