The offer from house Lethis is generous indeed, and their prudence when dealing with a mineral whose characteristics are still unknown is commendable. House Cyforth believes that both the army and our doctors both work for the betterment of the kingdom, and so our opinion is mostly neutral in the matter.

Personally I believe that our doctors deserve the equipment, and fancy the sticker title of “saviour of the people”, but no so much I couldn’t be convinced to abstain. It would be difficult to convince me to vote against the motion.

If the council refuses to consider that which is necessary, then at the least they must accept that truth that allowing these Motherless fools into our army will only serve to pollute the moral core of Arkist. They should be sent on their way and ignored from here on out.

I believe our brethren in Gambol have hit on a salient point. The Stability is getting dangerously low, and it might be a good time to remind the people exactly who rules the kingdom.

However, no doubt this would render the Leader of this particular dilemma significantly unpopular with the masses. I'm leaning towards Aye, but unless I see some generous offers I don't feel comfortable investing more than 1 Power into that decision.

I also find disgusting the Iskurs' custom of cutting boiled eggs the larger side first, but pretty much enjoy their wine. So, as you can see, I am divided on the issue. I worry, though, about the political ramifications of your decision. By choosing to ignore other cultures, we are stagnating, and our idle councilmen may turn to plotting and rebellion. There are already rumours of factions plotting to overthrow our King, and I feel that giving them something new to bicker about would result in a more peaceful life for all of us.

I'm sure the Mother has guided House Lethe and their decision comes from the desire to make the Kingdom the best it can be, but I'm just an old man that prefers the rest of his life to pass without shocks and with plenty of wine. Of course, I could be convinced to either abstain or even support Lethe's decision, but I'd have to make sure my House and the Kingdom are in a good position, no matter the outcome of this decision. You don't know how annoying young people are with their "I would have done this, old people are always wrong, where is the wine...?" Re: fantasy racism (everything was already solved amicably before I got to read it, although I agree it's probably a good idea to avoid real life offensive stereotypes).

There definitely *are* some elements of "everyone who is not us is a barbarian" feeling to the game - less in a colonial way and more in an ancient greek/roman one - and certain Houses especially have some very harsh social/xenophobic views (The narrative objective for one of the Houses we have not picked is...to get rid of the outcasts in the kingdom); and I expect House Lethe to become quite touchy if/when the argument of religion comes out.
As mentioned in the Content Disclaimer, though, this kind of thing is usually handled in a "decent" way; the game world is not exactly egalitarian, but you can see it's not out of malice (there is a decent amount of representation, for example, both in the lore and in the art).

EDIT: in lighter news - I love House Pinchay's discord chat. This is probably between 25 to 30% of the content:

Sitting Councilmember

At the table prepared for the head of House Daucus, a man with half moon spectacles glances over a pile of papers. Log sheets, accounting reports, just a general understanding of everything within the Duchy of Olwyn. He grumbles, to himself, complaining that he has to do all the math himself.

You get the impression he'd rather do it all himself despite his complaints. He looks like an annoyed librarian who knows he's the only one with enough of a passion for books to properly do the job. After some more note taking and math, and he finally looks up from his papers.

"I say, so many houses were pushing to send adventurers out to find the map, and the first time we encounter someone else we get letters back of them calling these people barbarians! It seems they don't quite understand what adventuring entails." He said. He put on a small smile, one of someone who probably doesn't smile often.

"I jest though. I do believe we all knew what we were getting into when we agreed to go out into the Southern lands. I must ask what the issue is with allowing these nomads to support our military? We're not asking them to marry into our families. We're asking them to help escort our military through a land that already doesn't like us, to keep us safe and give us understanding of the deserts. If our soldiers are butting heads on the ground, maybe they should be more open minded if they don't want to die in the sands."

The Councilman turns to look at the Councilman of House Lethe, "I am surprised that you are so against letting others in. I would think that our dearest Mother would love for you to find new peoples and let her guidance spread among them... Plus, let us remember that currently the world sees your influence with the freed woman and the trade deals as a black mark. Why not let our people see that you do care about the might of our country instead?"

They do not serve the Mother, so they are not welcome. It is as simple as that. Our military does not need unruly conscripts, and our people do not need the strain.

Further, we certainly do not see standing up for the rights of a human being as a black mark. We do what is right, what the Mother wills, not what pleases others.

As for... adventuring, as you call it... we made it crystal clear that we would not support such an idiotic venture. It would be expensive, dangerous, and pointless. Ancient tombs are inevitably full of trinkets and keepsakes, yes, but House Lethe can say from long experience that whatever isn't worthless trash is, instead, heretical and destructive. House Lethe... I worry you might be acting against your own interests in a bunch of ways, to be honest.

First off: Consider the example of the eight Saint Daughters. They represent both a virtue, and the avoidance of a vice, an excess. They represent balance.

So, it would only make sense that House Lethe would favor bringing things back into a balance, and a Nay vote would send the state of our kingdom dangerously out of balance.

And don't forget: people can convert. I'm sure House Lethe would be in a position to tell our new additions to Ankist all about the one true goddess. (Blessed be the Mother.)

Second: From a more secular, political point of view, I've always held that House Lethe tends to uphold a Moderate agenda. By this, Nay makes little progress in such an agenda, as the amount lost from Influence is less than the amount gained from Morale, due to momentum. So why favor destabilizing things further?

Anyways, current agenda points going left to right from the image on the house sheet (which I assume is the same for everyone), minus the gold rankings:

Opportunist: they've been screwed right now with only wealth under the mid marker. They should try to reduce as many resources as possible right now. 4 points.
Opulent: on the other hand, they're opening their champagne with 4 resources in the top half. I'd consider making a play at deposing the king, depending on cash reserves for coin scoring. 14 points.
Moderate: unstable situation. 3 resources still in their zone, but the wrong dilemma could boost one or 2 outside it and end the game from high stability. I'd make an alliance with the Opportunist and delay the game. 10 points.
Greedy: as with moderates, an unstable situation, with 3 in their zone and 2 that could move in, while they only want 2. On the other hand, they don't really care about resources, they care about hard cash. I'd delay the game if I were them. 7 points.
Rebel: great potential with 3 resources in their zone, the other 2 are close, and up to two other agendas that might want to get the king out. Backstabbing the king right now would be a fantastic idea, especially with an influence or morale dilemma. 17 points.
Extremist: fairly good situation right now, if they can keep the kingdom bankrupt. I'd consider making a play at the king with welfare, knowledge or influence to lock in the extremes. 13 points.
