The input/output rate of a sorter(arm) changes depending on how long it is. I don't know the exact value but it is significant.
Also, you can see the blue projectiles of your solar panel cannons while flying through space. Reminded me a bit of the ion cannons in The Empire Strikes Back. :)

The Steam Game Festival is coming back Feb 3. I couldn't find a list of games, but there should be two or three demos in there, that fit the thread.

https://store.steampowered.com/sale/steamgamefestival

Speaking of demos, one that I played during the last festival was "The Riftbreaker Prologue". It's a sci-fi take on "They are Billions" with a mix of C&C/Supcom base building. You build, get resources and research upgrades. All the while you need to defend yourself from aliens that attack your base. For that you have walls, turrets and a heavily customizable mech suit that resembles a Supreme Commander ACU.

The demo below is about 45 minutes long and has a 96% steam rating. The game is also featured in the next game festival trailer so there might be a new demo next week.

The Steam Game Festival Feb 21, has started.

I looked through the game list and pulled some candidates for the thread. Each one has a demo on Steam right now!

Distant Kingdoms
Not tagged as a management or city-builder game, but from the stream it seems to be a fantasy take on the Banished/Anno series.

quote:

A unique blend of City Building, Social Management, Exploration and Adventure gameplay, Distant Kingdoms brings a rich fantasy world to life. Help the Humans, Dwarves, Elves and Orcs of Talam, begin anew in the fabled land of Ineron.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1090760/Distant_Kingdoms/?snr=1_614_615_steamgamefestival_100705

Festival Tycoon
A bit like Roller Coaster Tycoon for music, with a Minecraft look. Seems to be a one man project.

quote:

Create and manage your own music festival empire. Book bands, setup stages, organise your line-up, layout tents and portaloos, roll out the food trucks and build your festival’s reputation to appease sponsors and earn big bucks...
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1326270/Festival_Tycoon/?snr=1_614_615_steamgamefestival_100705

Sphere: Flying Cities
Survival city-builder. Reminds me of Frostpunk but in a sci-fi setting. Additionally your city is on a flying rock that can move between resource locations.

quote:

Sphere – Flying Cities is a sci-fi citybuilding game which combines strategy, simulation and survival elements in an extraordinary and immersive scenario. In the aftermath of the moon‘s explosion you need to rise to the challenge! Take over control of the very first flying city ascending from Earth!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1273220/Sphere_Flying_Cities/?snr=1_614_615_steamgamefestival_100705

Reshaping Mars
Hexagon based colony building on Mars. Looks like a big ant farm, might be a better Per Aspera. Developer seems to be Chinese and the translation gives me some heavy DSP vipes :)

quote:

「Reshaping Mars」is a colony simulation game on Mars, you will start by gathering resources, storing food, accepting immigrants, and building a better colony together. Develop powerful technologies for Mars Reshaping, make Mars great agai..sorry, just great. Don't forget to make the residents happy.

Both PartyElite and GamerZakeh said the game has absolutely no tension. No fires, crimes, fallen structures, nothing. And it's simple to make money in the game as well. I think I'll wait for the Pharaoh remake.

Thanks!

I had a look at the Gamerzakh video, as I have watched his content before and he has played more or less every Impression game to completion. He compares it to Lethis Path of Progress, which in itself was an "ok" game but got boring really quick. I think I'll pick this up later depending on how the modding works.

For those who have issues with the wrong resource on your vehicles. There's an order called "Refit" which allows you to change the vehicle cargo, before or after you load/unload at a stop.

If there is some other cargo on the truck when it reaches the refit action it gets thrown away. Changing the schedule will change it for all attached vehicles like usual.

lagidnam
Nov 8, 2010
Another nice feature they added is the symbol to the left of the schedule name when you're in edit mode. It switches between standard and the option to go backwards when you reach the last stop. So when you have 4 or 5 passenger stops in one town you only need to add each stop once and the bus will go backwards through the list, once it reaches the end.

It's not just you, the developers have acknowledged that road/rail construction needs another look at. They have it listed in the roadmap but not in the next EA update:

https://trello.com/b/wHz5JHqH/voxel-tycoon-roadmap

Also, the whole thing is a 2 man project, so don't expect too many vanity features in the beginning.

— Full refund while paused
— Changed how auto-storages work: now storage locks to the specific type of cargo after first item is loaded to the storage, and doesn't go to back to Auto after unload
— Added ability to manually refit a vehicle unit at any moment from the Details tab of the Vehicle window
— Buy vehicle window: automatically set cargo type if units were filtered by specific cargo
— Buy vehicle window: Added a tooltip about holding Shift to apply cargo type to all units

Has someone checked out the Urbek demo on steam?

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1411740/Urbek/

It's a city builder but the distance between specific buildings matters a lot for them to evolve. It also looks nice even thought it's voxel based.

GamerZakh made a video of the demo and it seems to be way more complex than some of the other city builders where you just plop down what you need.

Riftbreaker is a mix of They are Billions and Starcraft 2. I have played a few hours yesterday and it's amazing how polished the game is.
That was until I ran into a savegame bug that locked me out of advancing the campaign, but I'm also playing the version on Game Pass... The Steam version seems to be fine.

If you like horde defense or rts games where you only play a hero unit (+ towers) then this is probably a must buy. It's really, really good

Finished the Riftbreaker campaign and really enjoyed my time with it. It got a little bit repetitive towards the end but the core gameplay loop and the overall polish made it one of my favorite games of this year. While it's true that you can "farm" most of the resources, you're still looking at a long wait time when a single building upgrade costs 35k carbonium. At the same time a new resource spot might only be 10k-15k, so I spend most of my time running around the different zones building little mining outposts.

Gamepass has a "Enable Mods" toggle so I hope we get some "real" tower defense maps/modes at some point. The engine can definitely support it.

I also tried my hand at the survival mode on normal difficulty and got destroyed. You have 80 minutes to build a base that can survive the final wave. It seems the target is not to defend your HQ but instead murder enough of the final wave to clear the map. This mode plays completely different then the campaign. You're constantly expanding to new resource deposits while trying to upgrade your base and do research. You don't see where the next waves come from until the monsters are on the map, so you will lose buildings all the time. Finished it on easy difficulty but normal is way too stressful, at times I felt like playing online Starcraft 2. Not a fan of this mode.

Someone was asking about Farming Simulator earlier. The next main game is in fact coming out on Monday. Early access versions have gone out to Youtubers and this is one of the first looks at the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0I06shFRPw

If it's like Farming Simulator 19 than the game will really come to life with mods. I haven't played one of these games before but watched a few Let's Plays and some of the mods the community came up with are just ridiculous. Basically rebuilding every part of the real machine in the game.

The new game also took some inspiration from community maps and added some basic product chains. It's not Rise of Industry but they are definitely making a step towards the management genre. If the game itself isn't an unplayable dumpster fire then I'll take the plunge on Monday.

Ubisoft announced yesterday that "The Settlers" will be released on March 17th and the closed beta will start on the 20th of January.

Some news outlets have already had a chance to play and the reception is pretty bad. It looks like the radically cut down on the complexity and ended up somewhere between a basic rts and a phone game.

German game site Gamestar put out a video titled "The destruction of the Settlers", PCGames.de wasn't much better.

Oh and PC Gamer had a guy doing the preview who ended it with saying "Well I prefer city builders so I can't really give an unbiased opinion". Horray for gaming journalism...

It does look like this is the next old franchise that's going to disappear, because the current developers don't understand what makes the old games great.

Tried the demo of Highrise City. It's Cities Skylines mixed with Anno. You build streets with zoning on the side, supply energy and water etc. The difference is that you also need resources to build stuff. Housing doesn't only need services to level up but also stuff like fruit, clothing and so on. UI needs some work but it's an alpha so that's normal.

Game is in Unreal 4 so the demo comes in at a whopping 33GB.
