I always found the rebuild movies incoherent and kinda pointless. Not stoked for the final installment. I'd have to rewatch all the other ones first. I say this as a big EVA nerd.

Watch DBZ Kai. It's significantly shorter than the original series and better paced. Though you miss some key filler like when goku and piccolo learn to drive or when goku goes to DBZ hell, the home for infinite losers. YUGIOH is exactly as you imagine it and its also great. I've started Hunter X Hunter. Thats supposed to be good.

I thought invincible was pretty good, I forgive the shonky animation just because it looks like a DBZ movie in the last episode. I think the narrative is fine, Marks a likeable idiot boy. OmniMan is clearly a massive piece of poo poo and a veritable avatar of toxic masculinity. I'll watch season 2 and hope that they clean up the directing a bit.

an actual dog posted:it attracted an older audience by appearing more mature than it actually is, and managed to capture the same kid audience that wanted the new cool thing. and it was like a perfect hype cycle, with the first season, the end of the manga, and the movie all coming out within a year. I think its key selling point is competence and consistency which is kinda rare in the industry at large. It kinda felt like it came out of nowhere. Add the excellent animation and adaption work ufotable have done and it was a hit for good reasons. I think people find an earnest good hearted main character refreshing at this point. The last anime I remember being talked about similarly was Attack on Titan and I'm glad that a show that has an unambiguous good guy at the heart of it is getting similar attention.

RE: Oddtaxi ending I still don't know how I feel about it - the visual style didn't require a story explanation to my mind, the last scene is good I think? I was not aware that there is an audio only show on youtube as a companion piece. I guess whether its just a one off oddity or if it becomes an on going series is the rub. The manga only came out in january of this year, which leads me to believe that there will be more oddtaxi I guess?
