Patlabor 2, animated or otherwise, is an outstanding movie

I know the original dub by Manga Entertainment is flawed and has some oddities in the script, but I'll be god damned of Peter Marinker doesn't completely own at Goto and the redub just seems, idk, a bit lifeless? Like the acting isn't bad and the script is more accurate but it just seems like everyone is going through the motions

(And the old script wasn't completely off the mark either, just some differences in the localization, phrasing, etc but I might be wrong so feel free to correct me lol)

gently caress yeah Manga Entertainment.

the wandering inn is a semi-endless web serial that clearly has a lot of anime influences but the goblins in it are pretty based. for some reason i think the misunderstood forest midget kind of goblin is cool, and its rare to find outside of literally like a handful of fantasy books.

Sure but you had to buy those on VHS from behind a curtain. This thing is airing in a regular TV anime timeslot. (Granted, that's the middle of the night.)

In my rental shop they were mixed up with all other anime, so you had Castle in the Sky in the same aisle as La Blue Girl.

There were gray bars over the bad spots, but that was it.

My isekai anime pitch:
It's a japanese 60s student protest leader, a black panther, a viet-cong, an unassuming jewish professor (who turns out to be communist and to have worked on the Manhattan project) and a palestinian, sent to the cliché fantasy Isekai with slavery.
And then they gently caress poo poo up.

I imagine the author has a lot of complicated feelings about what happened considered his sister died and he lived, and one of the major changes he made in the short story was that he killed off the character representing him as well.

But, as long as we're sharing hot takes about Grave of the Fireflies I remember a take someone on these forums had a year or two back that was that Grave of the Fireflies was right-wing and problematic because it depicted the bombing of Japan as a bad thing and asked the viewer to sympathize with citizens of a country that had been inflicting atrocities on China.

The take I usually see for Grave being right-wing is that it's a movie that tells the youth to stop complaining because their elders had it worse.

The manga is imho the best version as the anime cuts a bunch of important stuff, such as most of the stuff to do with Bakura, but also it's Yugioh you don't have the think about it mch.

The first anime isn't very good but has the best transformation sequence.

I like that the Nasuverse also had this whole powerlevel debate that Nasu settled by introducing ORT. "Uh, yeah, there's this alien thing from Mercury that landed in South America somewhere that just kinda chills in a sanctuary it made for itself but it's super strong and extremely dangerous and technically a vampire and also has no concept of death so it can't be killed by any of the ridiculous other bullshit that exists in this setting but it won't bother anyone unless they go gently caress with it or maybe it will some day idk but yeah it can beat absolutely everyone else in a fight at the same time if it felt like it eat my shorts"

In the art book they say ORT is meant to be like an optional superboss in jrpgs.

I watched a few episodes of way of the househusband on Netflix. The writing is good (because they stick close to the manga) but the animation is bad. It’s in a stop motion comic style which makes it come off as really cheap.

For those unfamiliar it’s about a former yakuza who got married to a normie and now takes care of the house while she works. Antics ensue.

Why watch the anime when there's a live action version?

I couldn’t help but feel that everything would go to poo poo after the end of S2. I get Lelouch’s plan, but with him dead there’s now gonna be an insanely gigantic power vacuum and there’s no guarantee that the world won’t fall into total chaos. Britannia has been taken down a few pegs but this one act isn’t going to undo the decades of conditioning and grievances the empire created. Would’ve been better for Lelouch to actually de-escalate tensions through sound governing policy and then abdicate Cincinnatus style, passing power over to some sort of elective body

He's pulling a God-Emperor of Dune except in a dumb half-assed way.
