Monster has been under my radar forever, I guess. I’ll put it on the list.

if you have some free time and subbed to HIDIVE for the Legend of Galactic Heroes it’s worthwhile to watch their seemingly almost complete catalogue of VOTOMS stuff before you cancel— not all of it is amazing, but it’s interesting mecha content

what are the good series currently airing?
from last season I intend to watch Noblesse and uh ... Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle, having only really finished Akudama Drive really recently

I’m watching Attack on Titan and the new Higurashi right now as they come out

re: Zero is starting back up I know, Beastars will probably be good, but what else is there?

as penance I offer up a recommendation for watching Memories if you’ve not watched it and liked Akira

it’s a 3 part anthology

here’s a random bit of the ost.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khKu-rqG5xk

if you look it up I’d argue you shouldn’t watch a clip of it— it’s visually really striking and each of the 3 shorts is pretty short! worth approaching blind. it was on Amazon prime video randomly a few months ago but it seems to be gone now

like that dark souls boss spidergirl, girl up top spider carapace down below, or like your friendly neighborhood spoderman?

because honestly the first 5 seconds or so of the ed is a good portrayal of how spiders scuttle really fast and i find it satisfying to watch and i’ll be sad to lose the spider gimmick

to your eternity, super cub, and oddtaxi are my aots in order of increasing satisfaction

I suspect to your eternity will escalate into Parasyte the maxim levels of weird gore and action given stuff in the OP and how shapeshifters have entered the public consciousness thanks to John Carpenter’s The Thing but it remains to be seen

super cub is a Honda ad about depression and their small displacement scooters but as far as shows-that-are-ads go it’s nice and might encourage Japanese youth to start motorcycle gangs which is a plus since Godspeed You Black Emperor (the documentary about Japanese motorcycle gangs) inspired the excellent Canadian post-rock band of the same name

oddtaxi is going in heavily with themes of alienation and getting dicked over by your station in life - our principal characters are a 41 year old cab driver and his lonely 41 year old janitor buddy, and all the side characters introduced so far literally are striving against their positions or otherwise discontent. it’s wild. my friend pointed out the 2 main guys are basically elder millennials denied the trappings of adulthood

also,
by dint of them having season 2s I’ve started welcome to demon school iruma -kun, that moriarty show, and zombie land saga as things i might have liked had i watched them as they aired and so far all are at least interesting

e: watch Jin-Roh! it’s very dark and very stylish and if memory serves the dub is even serviceable. the opening is explosive and entrancing - think the coup in Patlabor 2. then it slows down a bit.

I’ll watch Godzilla Singular Point since it popped up on Netflix, but that’ll be a watch-in-one-go kind of thing probably

I started watching my next life as a villainess/bakarina season 1 since the 2nd season started recently and it’s a fun series about a disaster bisexual who sadly doesn’t want to destroy the monarchy afaik … so once I finish s1 I’ll probably keep up with it as it airs in case she decides to use her position of influence with a country’s nobility to reform society idk

ah. ok. There’s at least one quality series this summer. it’s not wild, but it’s pretty heartfelt and emotionally intelligent — with excellent production values. The Aquatope of White Sand looks like it’ll be a good slice of life ft an aquarium and maybe some dramatic turns here and there. ep 1: there also seems to be an ocean godlet wandering around as a kind of Greek chorus or something??? and some interesting visual metaphors I’m mostly sure aren’t supposed to be literal
