Wait, 3 things.
3) Grandpa had alien roleplay porno tapes.

And working on it drove him up the wall because all the babies had no range of motion, so from there on out everything he worked on had super lanky, near acrobatic characters.

I've made an excellent vegetable borscht more than once and my goal was not to appropriate great culture of Slavic empires centuries past

Also golden beets are great roasted if you have bad short term memory and don't want to think you're dying when you poop out red beets 10-18 hours later.

They've got a lesbian-coded mom and gay-coded dad, though I never saw anything too weird about that, but I knew a fair few butch women of around that age and demeanour when I was a kid. They were generally pretty cool and great with kids.

What me worry

I watched a shitload of Rugrats but there are only a few episodes I remember

- the Fantastic Voyage spoof where one of them eats a watermelon seed and the others have to shrink down and go inside their body to get rid of it before it grows into a full size watermelon and kills them, except by the time they get there it's too late and it's already growing, and the visual of there being a big fuckin watermelon growing inside someone's stomach freaked me out for a while when I was like 5

- the one where Angelica finds her mother's vanishing cream and drenches herself in it to turn invisible and all the adults are ignoring her bc they're busy with something so she figures it's worked

- the one where Chuckie's dad gets involved in some kind of dodgy get rich quick scheme or commits fraud or something so they're like ultra rich for a little while before it all comes crashing down

- the alien fantasy sequence one where the grandpa is the lost in space robot

The one where Angelica thinks she's not her mom's favorite because her mom said "Angora is my favorite."

That one led me to the Encyclopedia Britannica to look up angora.

I didn't get "lesbian" from her so much as early 90s midwestern mom with a strong capital-F Feminist bent. She always struck me as being from Minnesota or something. All of the moms in that show were kind of representative of different mom stereotypes, now that I think about it. I barely remember their dad, I feel like he was hardly in the show.

The grossest thing about Rugrats was the way that the babies would store stuff in their diapers and always be reaching into their diapers to pull things out or put things away. Like even as a kid that loved gross-out humor the idea of toys and baby bottles being smeared with poo poo and piss and rubbing against Tommy's little baby wiener was just viscerally revolting in a way nothing else at the time was, it's probably why even as a child with very low standards I would always change channels when Rugrats came on.

I don't remember the source of the windfall but I do remember how he lost it all: he invested in some lovely invention that sprays water in your ear to "clean" out wax but it actually just encouraged wax growth

Don't ask me why I remember this specific detail about a cartoon that I haven't seen in 30 years

As someone who has an extensive She-Ra action figure (they're not dollies!!!!) collection I can say that my nostalgia for the brand has nothing to do with the quality of the original cartoon, which is awful and stupid, or the sexiness of the character, probably because I was 3 and neither of those things mattered to me yet. I also like Thundercats in theory but that show in hindsight is also trash, in conclusion.

She-Ra 2018 > She-Ra 1985
Thundercats 2011 > Thundercats 1985
Voltron 2016 > Voltron 1984
Ninja Turtles 2012 > Ninja Turtles 1987
