TMNT 2003 was pretty good imo

It was basically doing a BTAS thing with TMNT as hard as it could. Turtles Forever is awesome. That said, TMNT 2012 feels like a Hegalian synthesis at its best parts, doing the serious poo poo when it works while also remembering the turtles are actually teenagers.

Batman vs TMNT movie is really, really good, especially since it isn't based on any particular depiction of either franchise but draws from all of them. (And first time, iirc, where Batman and the Joker have the same voice actor)

The Rocko special on Netflix is really good, and landed (for me) much better than a lot of the other recent throwback stuff. Although, Harvey Birdman: Attorney General was hilarious too.

The Rocko special suffered from being completed a couple years before it released, jokes about things like hoverboards and selfie sticks aged pretty badly even if they were only momentary things.

Oh, it is. It was far more daring because it actually meant something, not just going for pure shock value.

There was a CatDog recipe about dentistry that also comes to mind. And Spongebob toenails. Nick's love affair with gross-out humour never really ended.

That said, some things age well.

Eh, I watched this one young enough that it didn't really faze me. My dad always stressed the importance of dental health so I wasn't scared so much as affirmed. "Son of Stimpy" honestly hit harder for the gross-out factor. You know what that fart smells like.

There's a lot of sexual stuff in Rocko where for someone of that age who didn't understand the nature of those relationships at the time that it's actually more shocking in retrospect that you were exposed to it

Yeah muppet babies loving sucked and was one of many shows that took up way too much time when I got home from school and wanted to watch something that was actually entertaining. Didn't they sing a whole lot in it too?

I'm general it takes a lot for me to like a show with musical numbers in it - stuff like the Animaniacs got away with it because they had some funny rear end, truly catchy song numbers, but bullshit like Muppet Babies and (I can't believe I remember this) Histeria were beyond irritating

Histeria was like bottom of the loving barrel imo, as a kid I could see what they were trying to go for but it just never worked

Muppet Babies first aired when I was young enough to literally not understand what I was seeing, essentially, only that was my 'favorite' by default. Some several years ago I went back to watch those original episodes, having not seen them in god knows how long. Holy JESUS EVERYTHING about that show was awful to the point grating irritation. I mean offensively terrible. Wow.

It wasn't my favorite show, but I'm in the same boat when it comes to being too young to know better. I also liked Gumby and Filpper back when nick showed those. I've seen Gumby enough recently that I still think a few episodes are at least interesting, no idea about Flipper though.

Eureeka's Castle was another one I liked as a young child, but I rarely caught it.

Huh, I know I watched a lot of Muppet Babies when I was 4. Also a lot of 80's MLP, though I haven't thought to revisit either because, I guess, I watched them when I was 4. I'm interested to know how dire they are now, though.

Prepare yourself. I think I made it a few minutes into MBs on my re-watch and then skimmed through a few for a random minute or two here or there just to confirm it and had to stop. It was crushingly bad.

I'm slightly older than y'all and I really liked Muppet Babies, but I haven't seen it since it aired. iirc it had rights problems because they had access to some insane catalog of clips. I remember seeing actual frames from Star Wars on there. it might be like the State or WKRP in that the genericized versions aren't as good, or it might be like the State or WKRP in that it is not as funny as I remembered it being.
