It seems like the obvious solution is to re-enter the agreement by lifting the sanctions and give them a six month grace period to also re-enter the agreement before deciding that it doesn't work.

This isn't new succ, it's predictable based on his pre-existing writings, for context, which I hadn't looked up before.

https://www.cfr.org/article/presidential-candidates-iran-nuclear-deal

However, I kind of assumed that even Joe Biden wouldn't be so terrible as to say "no, you go first" and pretending that it made any sense.

Maybe families should get a high enough basic income that they can decide the right amount to spend on remembering their loved ones, instead of getting a benefit which prescribes one from politicians up on high

CNN posted:

Raising the federal hourly minimum wage to $15 would reduce poverty -- but would also cut employment by 1.4 million workers and increase the federal deficit by $54 billion over a decade, according to a Congressional Budget Office report released Monday.

The proposed hike, which would take full effect by 2025, would increase worker pay by $333 billion, giving a boost to some 17 million workers whose wages would otherwise be below $15, as well as many of the 10 million workers whose wages would otherwise be slightly above that level.

The move would also reduce the number of people in poverty by 900,000 and result in lower spending on food stamps and child nutrition programs. However, spending on Medicaid and unemployment benefits would increase because of higher enrollment by those who lose their jobs, the CBO said of the Raise the Wage Act, introduced last month by a group of Democratic lawmakers.

Also, spending on Medicaid and Medicare would increase because of higher labor costs, since many home health and nursing care workers make less than $15 an hour.
Supporters of the minimum wage boost, including Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, quickly jumped on the CBO's findings that it would reduce employment. They argue that the agency's methodology was flawed
https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/08/politics/cbo-report-15-dollar-minimum-wage/index.html

The last time I looked for citable information on job loss statistics from minimum wage, I came across a 2018 report by the National Bureau of Economic Research which put two-thirds weight on a zero impact estimate and a one-third weight on a high-end impact estimate to come up with an estimate of 0.49 million jobs lost to the minimum wage rising from $5.15 to $7.25 over 1999 to 2016, in the context of 1.4 million jobs lost toward automation and 2.65 million manufacturing jobs lost toward trade with China. I guess that was a long time ago, and now that Democrats are back in power, it's time for a round of new minimum wage studies.

"Biden's missteps paled in comparison to the hurricane of lies that regularly dominated Trump's appearances"

All the Biden defenders on social media who think centrism is a slur would probably not like that headline, but some of them watch cable news as their #1 news source that it was probably more about it coming from someone further left

The transcriber who tweeted should have wrote "big" instead of "bid", and based on the context Biden meant to say either "there's isn't such a thing as spending too much" or "we can't possibly be spending enough", not that he was trying to say that those economists supported austerity. Biden's austerity hammer is going drop sometime, though

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2011/feb/23/david-raynor/Georgia-Chamber-E-Verify-accuracy-problems/

Politifact, Feb. 2011 posted:

For legal workers, its error rate was between 0.6 percent and 1 percent, Westat found. But of the workers it thought may be unauthorized, 22 percent were actually legal.

E-Verify mistook legal, foreign-born workers for illegal ones 20 percent more often than it did for their U.S.-born counterparts, according to Westat. The system especially struggled with workers with Hispanic and Arab surnames, which means "increased potential exists for an adverse impact on individuals’ civil rights and civil liberties," the GAO warned.

National Immigration Law Center posted:

Working women are more vulnerable to experiencing an E-Verify error. E -Verify errors can result from “name inconsistencies” on various authorizing documents. These name inconsistencies can result from name changes, most commonly because of marriage or divorce. Additionally, name inconsistencies can result from the use of surnames or other culturally defined name-use practices. This can result in E-Verify’s errors potentially having a disparate impact on cultural groups[2] and pose problems for women from these cultures.

I don't think it even makes much sense as a hypocrisy call-out. If you assume for a moment that libertarians are right about spending being bad or whatever, there's no reason for them not to claim whatever of it they can for their district. It's the underlying assumption that's the problem.

It's ironic that these people are the ones who most readily support politicians who at best come closest to saying "Black Lives Matter" by showing up on camera with "B" "L" and "M" alphabet blocks in a cubby hole in the background behind them, like it's a Hidden Mickey, and they feel even better about this than if they outright said it, because it makes them feel smart for having figured out a puzzle, like dogwhistling being the best a politician can do toward the left is a way of gifting their followers with a fun Alternate Reality Game

It felt analogous to saying "Janet Yellen took a bribe" instead of saying "Janet Yellen's speaking fees are a gross conflict of interest". It just sets up "What do you mean? oh, that" and you lose people. It's like the sitcom moment where a child makes up something much worse than what actually happened to try to convince a parent to not react as strongly toward having done something bad ... except the opposite
