I thought the baby yoda blood stuff was in reference to the old video game/ comic book stuff about Dark Troopers being cyborgified clones with force powers. Which was always just a way to cram in tougher enemies.

Planetary bombardment existed, but so did planetary shields. In Rogue One the star destroyers and rebel ships in orbit can't shoot though the shield. The Death Star is big enough to not give a gently caress about shields
