PeterCat posted:Clark states that he wrote a check to the pool company for more money than he had in his bank account so that construction of the pool could start as soon as the ground thawed. He expected the bonus to cover the difference and was then pissed that it wouldn't. As the check hadn't cleared yet he's not out anything and is just throwing a tantrum that he can't build a swimming pool. Because his boss cancelled his promised christmas bonus, which he budgeted and accounted for when planning for the pool. You work at a company for years, and every year they give you your promised bonus. This is added to your income for your family and house planning. Then one year, out of nowhere and with no warning, your boss cancels it, leaving you hosed. Even the guy's wife knew how hosed up that is. Why are you defending this. What are you doing. Poohs Packin this is the caliber of person you share movie opinions with. Maybe reconsider your stance on the movie.

I'd rather go to a Griswold party than a stuffy Todd and Margo "party".

Gentle Autist posted:not getting bonus: hosed Sounds like the posting of a man who didn't have a pool as a kid. "Wasteful consumption" yeah why don't we all just live in brutalist concrete cubes. Anything else is unnecessary.

Teriyaki Hairpiece posted:Clark is annoying as gently caress because he's so obsessed and insistent with one single idea of what "Christmas" is. Like why not have margaritas? Why is it only one specific thing?? Boomers are just like that all they want is to check boxes off and not engage with the actual spirit of something. The ritual of doing something has its own fun too. Like it's okay to engage with things just because it's a "thing". Don't be such a grump.

Teriyaki Hairpiece posted:Yeah but if things go wrong, just roll with it. That's how traditions and in-jokes get started. Don't just get upset and obsessed because you have one single idea of the "right time" yes you're right. Sticks in the mud unwilling to roll with something are definitely not fun people.
