Actually finished watching the series myself yesterday, having started watching back in October. It was quite good. So with the whole thing in fresh memory I guess I can post along a bit in this thread, when I can think of something to say!

At that point of my watch I was still just testing it out, though it wasn't long until I decided I'd check out the whole thing. Even though it wasn't that long ago—recent enough that I can still tell you the exact date I watched each episode (which is mostly due to the way I watch shows), and once I was done, I even did an "encore" where I fast-forwarded through all episodes from the start over the course of a few days to rewatch some specific scenes through the lens of now knowing everything that was about to happen—I don't remember what I specifically thought of the episode at the time, probably because it's obviously still in the phase of setting up the show, and specifically setting up the conflict between Adora and Catra.

I'm pretty sure that was my favourite part of not only the episode, but was the plot thread I got the most invested in the entire show through. Which, well, I'm quite certain was the intention of the showrunners, so.

I think that after episode two, my opinion of the show was that it was alright, nothing I disliked, but it hadn't quite yet fully convinced me that it was gonna be too much more than casual dinner-watching. But I'll certainly get more to say about that as we go on.

(also I just have to note that I'm finding it a bit amusing that you said no spoilers while your avatar is quite a huge one.)

The Saga

Oh, I definitely missed that way to read the scene when I watched it. Makes perfect sense though.

Kinda standard setting things up season 1 episode, really. Not bad, but hard to have any strong opinions about. Adora attempting to become She-Ra again is pretty great, at any rate. "Honour of Grayskull, blah blah blah."

Since you mentioned Kowl, Razz does bring up some more direct references to the 80's She-Ra too, mentioning a Loo-Kee who's always hiding. He was indeed a character who was hidden somewhere in the background of every episode of the original show and delivered the episode's morale at the end, and his face shows up on Razz's fan.

But, while not many, Catra's scenes are definitely my favourite part of this episode. Being hostile to her squad mates, attacking the bed while crying... really starts driving home that without Adora around to keep her at least somewhat grounded, her standard response to emotional stuff is to violently lash out at whatever's around her, rather than actually dealing with her emotions in any kind of healthy way. And oh boy is that only going to keep escalating.

Shadow Weaver really isn't helping.

The Saga

Was Spinnerella ever refered to as "general"? She's a princess too.

I felt this episode was kind of a weak princess introduction episode, just a pretty predictable storyline. You knew from the start that they would attack the Horde despite promising they wouldn't and that the Plumerians would come around and start fighting despite their attitude.

Not that it doesn't have its moments, Adora's such a dork in this episode and I love it. Adora vs. Bed for best fight in the entire show

Also.

quote:

Unfortunately for Adora, the password has changed since she defected.

Not quite! The soldier she tries quoting the password to says they haven't used that one in months—and Adora's defection happened literally yesterday. The timeline so far: Catra and Adora go into the woods in the afternoon/evening of the day Adora got promoted to Force Captain, and Adora sees the sword. Adora heads back later the same night, when she runs into Bow and Glimmer, and transforms for the first time (E01). They do the thing in the ruins, and the morning after, they head to the party in Thaymor. The Horde attacks, and Adora officially defects (E02). They head back to Bright Moon, and still during the same day, Adora goes off and meets Razz, and then comes back and pledges herself to the Rebellion as She-Ra (E03). This episode picks up immediately after that with Adora getting her room for her first night in Bright Moon, the strategy meeting happens the following morning, and they go to Plumeria later that very day. Adora should have known a password that was, at most, two days old. But the latest one she knew was months out of date.

Adora's not the brightest, and that one can't even be explained with being unfamiliar with how life works outside of the Horde.

And completely unrelated to that, for some reason, it didn't hit me until literally yesterday that "Bright Moon" and "Fright Zone" is supposed to be an assonance.

Hordak and Shadow Weaver do have good voice actors—the voice work in this show is pretty great in general—but my absolute favourite in that regard is someone we've yet to see.

Here she is, my third favourite character. That's right, Mermista! In no small part thanks to her voice actor who's just completely crushing it in basically every scene Mermista has in the whole show and my aforementioned favourite when it comes to the voice work. Not everyone can make "Uuuuuuuugh" work as a catchphrase.

Okay yeah Scorpia's good too but she's not in my top three, which is otherwise populated by Catra at #2 and next week's star on top.

Entrapta never left her spot as Best Character for me, even if there's a lot of strong characters already introduced and upcoming. Her being autistic was pretty obvious, what I completely failed to pick up on was that she's not a teen like the majority of the other princesses, but, according to the showrunners, around thirty.

So many good lines in this episode from both Entrapta and Drunk Adora, and just. Drunk Adora's faces. All of them.

And other stuff, like this picture that just feels like it raises more questions than it answers. I love it.

Entrapta just casually grabbing a sparkle from Glimmer's teleporting.

And this sequence that deserved its own screenshots.

I'd think I'd call this my close second favourite episode of season one, and while I haven't put enough thought into such a list, would probably get a place on a potential list of my top ten episodes of the whole show too.

The Saga

Ey, it's back!

So this episode really shows just how little Shadow Weaver thinks of Catra, seeing her as just an extension of Adora, or at best, Adora's disobedient pet cat (and that's with Shadow Weaver already seeing Adora as someone whose only real purpose is to carry out her will, so), and that in a scene where Catra isn't even present. Shadow Weaver praises Adora for being the ambitious, cutthroat, ruthless warrior she raised her to be, and while Adora might have shown the potential for becoming something like that while in the Horde (but at the time of her defection, decidedely wasn't yet), in the context of the show, that line applies a lot better to Catra. Something Shadow Weaver would just never acknowledge.

Definitely looking forwards to the writeup of next episode.

Yes hello I'm Kenny and asked Senerio about it because I really liked this thread and was sad to see it die, so I reached out with the question.

I'll see if I can get the next episode posted before Monday, but I know better than to make that a definite promise. Depending on how in the groove I get with writing up things updates may be more frequent than once a week and as of right now I will not have a set weekday for the updates.

Now, obviously my writing style will be a bit different than Senerio's, but I'll be keeping to the same general format. Might insert a few more of my own snarky comments and probably include some more trivia at the end because oh boy I love trivia. No change to the spoiler policy.

A thing I do want to do and what I originally planned to ask Seneiro about some time ago is open up for the possibility of some guest episodes; if anyone has some episode they'd really like to do the writeup of, do post about it and I can reserve a spot for you! Just, 1) I reserve the right to say no because there are a number of episodes I really want to do (obviously because otherwise I wouldn't have wanted to take over), and B) Let's not plan too far ahead so for the time being only episodes up until the end of season 2 are "available".

The Saga

Season 1, Episode 8: Princess Prom

We open in Bright Moon, where Adora has been sent an invite to something called the "All-Princess Ball, Winter Wonderland". Thorougly confused, she goes to Glimmer and Bow for advice.

It's a good episode but you don't need to scream their names

She finds them less than helpful.

Adora: "Okay, you've gone crazy. I'll come back later."

Before Adora manages to get away, Bow and Glimmer manage to explain it's a party happening once a decade where all the princesses of Etheria meet. With food, fancy dresses, and—not to Adora's liking—dancing. She's not sure if she should go since she's not always a princess, but Glimmer reassures her, with Bow adding that it's all in the invite. The very long invite.

Bow: "The ball has been going on for centuries. There's a lot of really old etiquette stuff."

Glimmer mentions that the ball will take place in the Kingdom of Snows, with Princess Frosta as the host, who Glimmer thinks would be a huge get for the rebellion. This does not make Adora any less anxious about it, so Glimmer again reassures her by saying she'll be there with her, and so will Bow as Glimmer's bringing him as her plus one.

Bow: "About that."
Glimmer: "It's the best friend squad in action! Right, Bow?"
Bow: "I'm going with Perfuma."
Glimmer: "What?"

Cue the theme song!

When we come back from that, we're now in the Fright Zone, where Catra is venting her frustrations about Shadow Weaver to Scorpia (who's just overjoyed she gets to hang out with Catra in her room).

Catra: "Unfortunately, you're the only one I can trust around here."
Scorpia: "Because we're best friends?"
Catra: "Stop being so you and help me think!"

Catra has come to the conclusion that Shadow Weaver needs to be replaced as Hordak's second-in-command, and that she should be the one to take over. She's just not sure how to do that yet. Scorpia suggests trying something at the All-Princess Ball while reading the invite, since everybody's gonna be there. Catra questions how she got her claws on that invite, and to Catra's surprise, Scorpia explains she's a princess. The Horde crashlanded in the Scorpion kingdom, they let them stay and gave Hordak their runestone. This all was covered in Force Captain orientation, which Catra's starting to think she shouldn't have skipped. Scorpia's not planning on going to the ball, since nobody really liked her family even before the Horde dropped in. Catra argues that that's why she has to go, because how dare they act that way?

Catra: "How dare they take best friends and turn them into giant sword ladies, who run off with people clearly inferior to you?"
Scorpia: "You're telling my whole life with your words."

So the plan is that Scorpia goes to the ball, Catra comes along as her plus one, and they're going to make it a night nobody will forget.

Back in Bright Moon, Glimmer is hurt that Bow is going with Perfuma (turns out, Perfuma asked him during the battle against the Horde back in episode 4) instead of her, since going to events together (and having ice cream after) was their thing. Bow thinks there's nothing wrong with a new thing. Glimmer doesn't get a lot of time to mope before being literally pulled into Adora's prom prep, which has more in common with preparing for a battle than a party. Adora claims she's prepared for everything, so Glimmer wonders what she's going to wear. Adora says she was just gonna go as She-Ra, since she has better hair... but the ball is neutral ground, so Adora's not allowed to bring her sword into the ballroom, so no She-Ra. This excites Glimmer, because that means it's makeover time!

Cue the costume montage!

Adora's not quite comfortable with being Glimmer's dress-up target, but after a few false starts, Adora's done up in a simple red dress, and Glimmer in a somewhat more frilly purple ensemble. In the Fright Zone, Catra goes for (and absolutely rocks) a tuxedo, while Scorpia tries out some dresses, before settling on...

Pictured: The moment everyone probably went "Daaaaamn"

At the ball itself, Glimmer and Adora again discuss how good it would be to get Frosta on their side, while heading to greet their revered hostess. But for all the preparation she did, Adora had missed the fact that Princess Frosta's, like... ten years old.

Frosta: "I'm eleven and three quarters."

Despite the rocky start, Glimmer figures they have plenty of time to win Frosta over. Adora spots Entrapta, who's wearing the exact same clothes she did last time we saw her, having climbed up one of the pillars in the room to observe the, as she calls it, social experiment.

Entrapta: "Different groups are thrown together and forced to... mingle."

I'd just like to note that I'm showing an admirable amount of restraint in not quoting verbatim and screencapping everything Entrapta says and does in this episode, and in the recaps of any future episodes Entrapta are in for that matter

Bow and Perfuma are the next to arrive at the ball, and while Glimmer goes through another set of hurt feelings, they're joined by Mermista (introducing herself with a deadpan "Hey, I'm here too, don't make a big thing out of it." Did I mention I love Mermista's voice actress?) and Sea Hawk, who Mermista insists is just her ride and not her plus one (he is her plus one). Adora spots Frosta alone and takes the chance to apologize and talk to her, but Frosta makes it clear she's not interested in the Rebellion, since the Kingdom of Snows has defended itself for thousands of years and the Horde hasn't attacked them. She dejectedly reports her failure to Glimmer, which is right when Catra and Scorpia arrive at the ball. As they greet Frosta, Adora and Glimmer run up to warn Frosta that they're from the Horde and shouldn't be allowed in, but Catra argues that Scorpia was invited according to the rules, rules that they have the utmost respect for. Frosta agrees all princesses and their guests are welcome, so Scorpia and Catra gets to stay while Adora just makes herself look worse in front of Frosta. Adora makes her intent on stalking the duo for the rest of the ball clear, so of course, they split up. She asks Glimmer to keep an eye on Scorpia, while Adora follows her ex-best friend.

Catra, being Catra, proceeds to spend her time at the ball trolling Adora. Dropping a note in a trashcan leading to Adora digging through it in front of the other guests, before Adora spots her approaching Entrapta. Glimmer has meanwhile left Scorpia alone to go talk to Bow, to make things less weird between them... but when Bow expects an apology, instead Glimmer says that she forgives Bow, offending Bow further. As Bow heads off to get his cummerbund that he removed during the costume montage because he underestimated the temperature at the ball, Glimmer realizes she's lost sight of Scorpia. Adora catches up with Catra, who she thinks is about to push Entrapta off the balcony, buuuuut...

And this is not even in the top five most shippy moments in the episode

Entrapta: "Hi, Adora! Have you met my new assistant? She brought snacks."
Catra: "She stole my food, and then asked me to spy on people with her. Is this what love feels like?"

Adora warns Entrapta that Catra's from the Horde. The people the Rebellion are fighting. The Rebellion that Entrapta has to be reminded that she's part of, giving Catra time to just wander off. Bow finds Scorpia, though... in the process of planting heat bombs! He goes to warn some guards, but they instead grab him and Scorpia stings him with her tail, knocking him out. Scorpia has also stolen Adora's sword from the weapon check-in. In the main ballroom, unaware of all this, Frosta announces it's time for the first dance. Adora gets dragged down to the dance floor, and has no choice but to dance with whoever she ends up next to.

You all saw this coming

Adora tells Catra her plan won't work. Through switching partners, Adora learns from Glimmer and Perfuma that Bow's been gone for a while, and left at about the same time as Scorpia, before having to deal with Catra again.

Catra: "Maybe my plan won't work. But then again... maybe it already has."

Subtle

Catra mentions Bow, making Adora go ballistic and cause a scene. As she tries to make Catra fess up, Princess Frosta traps Adora under some ice. Stating that violence is forbidden, she revokes Adora's invitation. But before she can finish banishing Adora from the kingdom, Scorpia's heat bombs go off, throwing the guests into panic. Catra explains to Adora that she really didn't do anything other than distract Adora—but Scorpia, Lonnie, and Kyle were quite busy. A falling pillar frees Adora, and she chases after the escaping Catra. Glimmer finds Bow being dragged away by Lonnie and Kyle, disguised as guards. She dispatches them, but Scorpia stings her too.

Frosta has headed to her runestone to stop the palace from falling apart, and with the now floating ice chunks as stepping stones, Adora and Catra end up on the roof and continue their fight. Adora dodges one of Catra's strikes while standing on the edge, causing Catra to fall off. Adora isn't about to let that happen, so she grabs her by the waist and pulls her up.

SUBTLE

The shaking from the castle rebuilding itself causes them both to fall, though. Adora stops the fall with their hairpin, but Catra lets go of Adora's hand, followed by Scorpia's scorpion ship flying up through the clouds, showing Adora the kidnapped Bow and Glimmer, and that her sword has been stolen. Catra laughs, Adora cries...

...and cue end credits.

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, we go on a daring rescue mission in which everyone does exactly what they're supposed to and absolutely nothing goes wrong.

---

Trivia time!
This is the first episode in which She-Ra does not appear outside of the opening theme.

There's also a lot of cameos in this episode, so let's get through them. Starting with some references to the 80's She-Ra show!

During her prom prep, Adora mentions Sweet Bee, Prince Peekablue, and The Star Sisters, all names from the original show. Peekablue was a woman in that one, however. The Star Sisters are briefly seen at the ball.

The second dress that Scorpia tries on is clearly meant to invoke 80's Scorpia.

Lah-See is at the ball. She was the girlfriend of Loo-Kee (who was referenced by Razz back in her episode) who was hidden in each episode and delivered the moral at the end.

And while not exactly a cameo, but easy to miss, Entrapta's kitchen employee Soda Pop can be seen in some crowd shots, explaining who her plus one was.

And then... one that's technically not a spoiler, but pointing it out makes it slightly so, so you should probably only check out this early appearance of a certain someone you might have missed on your first watch if you've already finished watching the show.

Then there's the creator cameos, the known ones being:

Showrunner Noelle Stevenson and their then-girlfriend, now-wife Molly Knox Ostertag (with the glasses).

Writer Shane Lynch, and storyboard artists Diana Huh and Megan Lloyd. There's also this guy that I'm almost certain has to be a cameo given how out of place he looks, but I don't know who he might be.

---

Now, did this recap end up a little too long? You bet your gay Etherian rear end it did, and I am going to try to keep them shorter in the future (and I even edited this down a bit), with less screenshots. But this is the other best episode of season one, and the pivotal episode of the season. The prior episodes have mostly been character introductions and worldbuilding, but without spoiling too much, this is the episode that starts a continuous chain of events leading all the way into the season finale.

The Saga

Season 1, Episode 9: No Princess Left Behind

Last time on She-Ra and the Princess of Power, the Rebellion was struck a significant blow. The Horde has not only kidnapped Glimmer and Bow, but also stolen the Sword of Protection that allows Adora to transform into She-Ra—the Rebellion's greatest asset.

In the Black Garnet Chamber, Catra is gloating about this fact to Shadow Weaver. She succeeded where even Shadow Weaver failed. But Hordak opens communications, praising Shadow Weaver for the capture of Glimmer and stating that Queen Angella has been given until sunrise to surrender. Shadow Weaver proceeds to completely neglect to mention anything about Catra having been the one to pull it off... because Catra is Shadow Weaver's underling.

Shadow Weaver: "Therefore, anything you manage to do right is credited to me."
Catra: "So I do all the work and you get the glory?"
Shadow Weaver: "Sometimes, that's just the way of things."

Catra storms out, and we're shown Glimmer held in magic restraints. Shadow Weaver wisher her welcome to the Fright Zone before we're treated to the theme song.

Back in Bright Moon, Queen Angella's sitting in the meeting room, dejected, wishing she had never let Glimmer leave and now faced with an impossible decision. Adora walks in, and Angella states she will agree to Hordak's terms. Adora argues that they have no guarantee that the Horde will hold up their end and wants to rescue them since she knows the Fright Zone, but Angella is doubtful and Adora admits she has no idea how she'd do it. Walking out, Adora starts crying, when suddenly flowers start falling in front of her. Turning to the window, she's met by...

From left to right: Bassist, singer, lead guitarist, drummer. Change my mind.

The new Princess Alliance isn't going to sit and do nothing when the Horde took one of them, so it's time for their first official mission.

In the Fright Zone prison, Kyle brings Bow a meal (and drops it on the floor when the forcefield closes on his wrists). Bow strikes up conversation with him, which Kyle responds to since normally no one really talks to him. Bow asks where Glimmer is, but that information is classified, so Kyle has no idea. Bow wants Kyle to give her a message, but he leaves.

Meanwhile, Adora plans the rescue with the Alliance. There is no way I can make this scene justice in writing, but I'll try. Glimmer's boot gets to represent the prison, Entrapta is a perfume bottle, Perfuma some nail polish, Mermista a lipstick...

Mermista: "Ew, do you know what that stuff is made of? I'll be this knife."
Entrapta: "I feel like Perfuma should be the perfume bottle, that makes the most logical sense."
Perfuma: "Maybe I could be a flower."
Sea Hawk: "Could I be this miniature painted model of Bow?"
Adora: "No!"

Etheria is safe with our crack team of princesses.

Starting from here, Adora explains the plan while we're also shown the plan being carried out in the Fright Zone, cutting between it and Bright Moon. The plan is to enter through the scrapyard, where Perfuma and Entrapta will go to the security tower and wait for Adora's signal to disable the lights. Mermista will swim through the Fright Zone sewer system—

Mermista: "I'm sorry, Mermista will... what?"

(to this day, this might be my favourite line in the whole show. The delivery is just so incredibly perfect.)

But, she's the only one who can breathe underwater. Adora and Sea Hawk will neutralize the guards, and then Entrapta and Perfuma will join them and wait for Mermista to open the door from the inside.

Sea Hawk: "Adventure!"

With everyone in position (and no more cutting back to the planning scene), Entrapta (who's excited over all the tech she can find in the Fright Zone) disables the lights. Adora punches out the guards, but Mermista hasn't reached the door yet. Perfuma finds Entrapta geeking out over a scrap-collecting robot, and has to drag her away using some vines. To make matters worse, Scorpia comes by, and Sea Hawk claims he's the inspector, who's come to... inspect... all the things. Scorpia is successfully fooled.

Same, Adora, same

Perfuma and Entrapta show up, with Perfuma complaining about how hard teamwork can be with Entrapta. The door opens, with Adora getting ready to fight, but revealing a rather messy Mermista.

Mermista: "Could you not?"
Adora: "Huuh? What happened to you?"
Mermista: "Uh, the sewer happened to me."

Finally inside, they hide in a closet... and Entrapta is gone again, having seen a keypad and status screen in the corridor, occupying her interest until the scrap bot runs by again. Following that, she finds herself face to face with one of the Horde's combat bots.

Entrapta, nervously: "Hello to you, too. Ehehehehe..."

In the Black Garnet chamber, Glimmer tries teleporting out of her magic restraints, which does not go well. Shadow Weaver tells Glimmer that Angella is coming to surrender herself in exchange for Glimmer and that the Horde has the Sword. Outside, Sea Hawk finishes his "inspection", and Scorpia thinks that he's familiar . She realizes he was at the Princess Prom, and while trying to talk himself out of a fight, the word DUCK blinks on a nearby screen. While Scorpia wonders where the duck is, a crane comes swinging, knocking her away. Entrapta appears riding the combat robot she encountered before, admitting she wasn't sure who she was gonna hit with the crane.

In the prison block, Adora tries to find Glimmer in the records, but to no avail. A robot comes through a nearbo door... followed by Entrapta, who introduces her new robot friend Emily that she reprogrammed. She deposits Sea Hawk with Mermista before they enter the prison, taking out the guards and taking command of the prison controls.

Not pictured: Entrapta's adorable excited squeaking

With Entrapta at the controls, and Mermista staying with her to make sure she doesn't trail off again, they plan to free Bow first and then find Glimmer. At the same time, Kyle approaches Bow's cell, telling him that Glimmer is in the Black Garnet Chamber and that Shadow Weaver will exchange her for the queen... because Bow will actually listen to him, even if he doesn't have a choice. Adora, Perfuma and Sea Hawk head for Bow, but Lonnie and Rogelio spots them, leading to a fight on the moving walkways. Bow keeps Kyle occupied with conversation to keep him from noticing it, until Sea Hawk comes and throws him away. Rogelio tries taking back the prison controls, but Mermista and Entrapta send him flying with some teamwork. Bow tells Adora where Glimmer is when the alarms start blaring, and they start escaping. Adora brings them to a series of vents that'll let them get outside and steal a skiff, but each chamber is sealed and purged with fire before the next one can open, so they have to hurry through. Adora doesn't go with them, intending to find Glimmer. She gives herself up and tells the guards to take her to Shadow Weaver. With Adora strapped to a table and Glimmer stuck in the magic restraints, Shadow Weaver shows up and tells Catra to go to the Force Captain barracks and pack her things, now that Adora is back.

Catra: "Seriously? After everything I've done for you, it's still her you want?"

Catra leaves and Adora says she'll stay if Glimmer gets to go. Shadow Weaver announces her intent to mindwipe Adora of everything having to do with the Rebellion and She-Ra, so Adora will be happy to see Glimmer as a prisoner after that. She starts the process, while Glimmer can just look on in horror.

The others make their way through the vents, with Emily opening each door. Bow wants to go back for Adora, but Perfuma says they have to follow Adora's plan and they're going to wait with a skiff.

Perfuma: "No princess will be left behind."

Glimmer keeps trying to teleport, and working through the pain, manages to get herself free, punching Shadow Weaver in the face and freeing Adora. as the others reaching the exit. However, Emily's cable gets stuck in the final chamber, prompting Entrapta to run back in for her. Perfuma tries to stop her as the door closes, trapping Entrapta and Emily inside as the fire goes off...

Adora and Glimmer reach a dead end as a door traps them. Glimmer tries teleporting, but it doesn't work. They hear a sound, and turn to see Catra coming towards them, dragging the Sword of Protection against the wall. She points the sword towards them... before flipping it around, handing it to Adora.

Catra: "This is not because I like you."

Adora transforms into She-Ra, letting them easily escape and meet up with the others on the skiff. Adora questions where Entrapta is, and is informed by the dejected group that she didn't make it. Adora wants to go back for her, but...

Bow: "No, she's... she's really gone."

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, we fondly remember our dearly departed Princess Entrapta, gone forever.

Trivia Pursuit
When Adora is leading the others towards the exit chambers, there's some rather noticeable layering issues going on with the characters (look at Bow and Sea Hawk).

The Saga

Season 1, Episode 10: The Beacon

Last time on She-Ra and the Princess of Power, the Princess Alliance rescued Glimmer, Bow, and the Sword of Protection from the Horde. But during the mission, Entrapta was lost in the Fright Zone and seemingly burned to death...

The episode starts immediately after the last one, as Sea Hawk steers the stolen Horde skiff into a forest clearing. The now slightly smaller Alliance has become thoroughly demoralized by the loss of one of their own. Adora blames herself, while Mermista and Perfuma say that operating as a group is what made them vulnerable to something like this.

Mermista: "Maybe there's a reason the Princess Alliance fell apart before. Maybe this whole thing was a bad idea."

Mermista doesn't want to be a part of it anymore, and Perfuma silently agrees. Each princess returns to their kingdom, Perfuma tearfully grows a memorial to Entrapta, and while Frosta wasn't with them, the news has reached her and she seals off her kingdom with a huge barrier of ice. With the Princess Alliance once again broken, Adora, Glimmer, and Bow return to Bright Moon, where Queen Angella is happy to have Glimmer back and gives her a big hug before the opening theme plays.

The queen can tell something is wrong, because Glimmer usually teleports away from her hugs. Glimmer says she just has to recharge, so she is to be taken to the Moonstone. Angella has also gotten word of Entrapta's demise, and wants to know what happened during the mission. Adora wants to take the blame, but Glimmer wants her mother to leave them alone for a little bit. Glimmer's still glitching after what Shadow Weaver did, and doesn't want her mother to know. Believing it'll make her better, she goes to recharge at the Moonstone.

The Fright Zone is also dealing with the aftermath of last episode, with Hordak chewing Shadow Weaver out for losing Glimmer and knowing that Adora was She-Ra, thereby inviting attack from someone familiar with the Fright Zone. Catra sees no need to mention it was her plan, before the camera pans to show a pair of pink circles inside a vent.

Glimmer has finished recharging, but is still glitching. Angella enters the Moonstone chamber, wondering if her daughter is feeling better.

This is pretty much peak bestfriendsquad.jpg

The best friend squad again leaves an annoyed Angella, who just wants to talk to her daughter.

Catra revels in Shadow Weaver being blamed for what happened, when a robot starts following her and Scorpia. Catra, in one of her "literally just a cat" moments starts smelling something. ("Yeah. Yeah, that's... that's concrete." -Scorpia) Crawling up to a pipe vent, she tears the cover off of it—and out falls Entrapta!

Glimmer thinks her glitching's just like a cold and asks Adora what she does when she's sick. Adora says she remains out of sight, since displays of physical weakness are discouraged in the Horde. Again, she blames what happened on herself, because she's not been training. Bow tries giving actual advice and Glimmer goes to take a nap. In her bed. That's suspended from the ceiling that she normally teleports up to.

Glimmer: "Give me a boost?"

Bow tries helping Glimmer up to the bed while Adora thinks that maybe the sword can heal Glimmer, since it healed the trees in Plumeria and fixed the Sea Gate. Bow's hesitant, but Glimmer's up for it.

Catra has restrained Entrapta, restraints that she casually uses her hair to pick open as Catra and Scorpia comes in. Hordak has tasked Catra with interrogating her, so she threatens her with a stun baton... that Entrapta grabs with her hair and starts asking questions about. Catra takes it back, and Entrapta explains she was waiting for her friends to get back, and wanted to make it easier for them by staying put. Catra implies they abandoned her, which Entrapta argues against before loosening her hands and starts asking questions about Scorpia's tail. Catra starts scratching Entrapta's hair, noting that it's just like Adora to leave people behind, and that the princsses just care about people who are like them.

Catra: "But you're not like them, are you?"

Pictured: The exact moment Entrapta unquestionably became Best Character. Who also needs a hug.

Entrapta starts recording another audio log, noting it's been too many hours if her friends were meaning to come back. Realizing this, she starts crying, but Catra wipes her face with her tail and notes she could be herself in the Horde, and to think about what they could accomplish together. Entrapta notes she's made more progress in hiding in the Fright Zone than in a whole life in freedom outside, like making Emily, who gets introduced by blasting the wall behind Catra and Scorpia.

Catra: "Those princesses have no idea who they've left behind."

Adora has no actual idea how to heal with the sword, so she just swings it around and tries chanting. Bow wants to stop messing around with sharp objects, because he cares about sword safety. The sword starts glowing, but it doesn't help, so Adora yeets it, pointy end first, into the wall.

Bow: "SWORD SAFETY!"

Catra's impressed with Entrapta, who's once again been restrained along with Emily. Entrapta casually slips out of and back into the restraints while mentioning that she could do even more with some First Ones tech. Catra's interested in where it could be found, and Entrapta mentions having tracked a signal that has to be a massive stash in the Whispering Woods. She hands Catra an electronic map, and tells Scorpia to keep an eye on her while she checks it out.

Entrapta, having forgotten she's supposed to be restrained: "I wanna build something biiiiiig."

I just can't get enough of Entrapta not even remotely acknowledging that she's supposed to be a prisoner

Adora wonders what she's good for it she can't even heal one person. Angella knocks on Glimmer's door and requests requires Glimmer to have dinner with her in an hour. Adora notes that one thing the Horde was right about is training, and she can't train if she doesn't know anything about She-Ra. She figures she can find answers in the First Ones ruin that Razz showed her, so being Adora, she jumps out the window.

Adora: "Ow."
Bow: "She's okay!"

In the Fright Zone, Shadow Weaver approaches Catra who's packing for her trip. Catra's not interested in telling her where she's going, but notices Shadow Weaver is extremely winded for some reason. Catra tries reassuring her that you get used to being yelled at (because Shadow Weaver's yelled at her so much), but Shadow Weaver doesn't want her pity. She does admit she's been hard on Catra, but won't apologize and just wanted Catra to be strong. She declares that she is strong now, and doesn't need Shadow Weaver.

...meanwhile in Bright Moon, Bow and Glimmer are both blaming themselves for what happened now. Bow for going with Perfuma to prom which led to him being kidnapped, Glimmer for letting herself be distracted from Scorpia. They apologize and hug, but Glimmer starts glitching during the embrace.

Bow: "It hurts so much."

Glimmer wants to start a fire to get out of dinner. Bow vetoes the idea, and Glimmer has to go to dinner alone with her mom. Angella wants to talk about what happened, but Glimmer starts glitching, revealing the affliction to Angella. Glimmer feels like a disappointment, and thinks her mom doesn't understand.

Glimmer: "Entrapta died trying to rescue me and the Princess Alliance is over and Shadow Weaver did something to my powers! I'm sorry I couldn't be perfect like you! You have no idea what it feels like to be such a screwup!"
Angella: "I don't know how you feel? I got your father killed!"

For the first time, Glimmer learns that Angella ordered the battle where Micah died, and she's never forgiven herself for it. Glimmer admits she was ashamed, and acted without thinking, leading her right in to the Horde's trap. Mother and daughter both admit to each other they feel like they're failures, but Angella tells Glimmer to keep fighting, like she should have done back then. Angella assures her that the Alliance can come back.

In the Whispering Woods, Adora and Catra are both searching for their target, but the Woods aren't cooperating. Both of them are about to give up when Adora spots a bright light, leading her right to the ruin. But Catra sees it (and Adora) too.

Catra: "Hey, Adora."

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Adora and Catra go on a completely spider-free date.

The Saga

Definitely an oil stain. Entrapta's not big on keeping clean. Remember that in her introductory episode, she stated that the robots take care of her basic hygiene. She wore that outfit, including stained shirt, to Princess Prom and I could totally buy that she doesn't have any other clothes.

The stain is missing in this scene of E09, though.

So anyway, while I said I wasn't planning on having a set weekday for updates, since I have the next few updates in the pipe already, for the time being I think I'll be posting them on Mondays and Fridays, doing two updates per week to make up for the long gap between episodes 7 and 8.

Larryb posted:

She doesn’t, if I remember right Entrapta wears the same outfit for the entire series
The only exception is the spacesuit in the final season but she was probably wearing her regular clothes under that anyway.

Now, this isn't something that's entirely unique to Entrapta—there are a number of other characters (not main, but recurring enough) that, as far as I can remember, wears the same thing in all of their appearances (even when not counting cases where it's obviously a uniform, like the Bright Moon captain of the guard). Entrapta's just the only one of them where I can entirely believe the reason for that being that it's the only clothes she actually owns, rather than animation convenience.

Bet you expected a recap of S01E11, Promise, when you clicked on this thread today.

Intermission #1: Origin of a Hero

So, what's all this then, you ask? Well, as the headline says, this is the first intermission in this Let's Watch, breaking up the episode recaps a bit. Specifically, it's the first of nine planned ones. Originally I had planned for only four, having them come only between seasons, but that idea fell apart for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to my inability to not be overambitious. So in addition to intermissions between the seasons, there will also be one roughly halfway through each season. This one an exception for obvious reasons.

In these intermissions, we will be (mostly) looking at official She-Ra and the Princesses of Power media outside of the show itself. The format of these will be a little different from the episode recaps, a bit less "formal", and the length is going to be... variable. The episode recaps I try to keep at roughly similar lengths, but no such considerations will be made for the intermissions. This one gets long in part because of this intro.

We will be starting with the first SPoP book that was released—Origin of a Hero. Written by Tracey West and published by Scholastic, it came out in April of 2019, four days after season 2 had been released on Netflix. Chronologically, however, it starts even before season 1, which is why I'm doing it during this season (and this was also literally the only workable slot for it), and putting it between episodes 10 and 11 isn't only because that falls in the middle of the six S1 episodes I am doing. I will note that there are some very mild call-forwards, but I can't really call them spoilers. So let's get into it.

The book starts with some information about Etheria and a character gallery, which we're mostly not gonna worry about as there's no new information there... but I do feel a need to quote the first sentence of Catra's description: "Catra and Adora were both orphans and were close growing up in the Horde; they thought of themselves as sisters."

...yeah, about that.

(so I do have a bit of a musing on that, which I will put in spoilers since it does touch on some later stuff: It's one of those things that I don't think is entirely wrong, but it's not exactly right either. In their time with the Horde, Adora and Catra just didn't have much if any context for either romantic or familial relationships—remember that Adora didn't even know what an aunt was—so putting words on exactly what they were during their Horde days is... complicated.)

It also doesn't mention at all that Netossa and Spinnerella are married. Oh well.

On to the chapters!

Chapter 1: Adora and Catra
In the Fright Zone, Adora and Catra are digging through a pile of rubble that they've been coming back to since they were small, looking for shiny stones (that Shadow Weaver had told them were just chunks of silica affected by the heat from the foundry). Adora finds one she tries to give to Catra, but she doesn't want it.

Catra: "You can keep it. It matches your eyes."
Adora: "Aw, you are so sweet."
Catra: "Ew! You did not just say that about me. Take it back!"

No, Catra, you really are sweet here

They're interrupted by a call for training, and race to the barracks. Together with the rest of their cadet team, they get a review about Beast Island and what might get them sent there before it's time for lunch. A squad of soldiers walk by, on their way to liberate Elberon, and Adora vows to one day become force captain and free Etheria from the rule of the princesses.

Chapter 2: Princess Glimmer Breaks the Rules
Glimmer's been stationed in Elberon for a few weeks on order by Angella. The mayor insists Elberon is safe, and Glimmer realizes that that's probably why her mother sent her there instead of the front lines. But during a harp recital, the Horde attacks. The Elberonians want to retreat, but Glimmer decides to go on the offense. She finds that Elberon's only defense line is one outpost with four archers, so she decides to use her powers to fight for the first time. With teleports and sparkle blasts, she takes out the first wave, but runs out of magic when the second appears. The mayor pulls Glimmer away from the battle and takes her back to Bright Moon.

Chapter 3: Snake!
Bedtime in the Fright Zone. Catra slides into Adora's bunk (no, seriously, the book straight up says "she gracefully slid into Adora's bunk", just in case you thought there was any ambiguity remaining), and the two of them talk about wanting to see the rest of Etheria. Adora mentions feeling a connection to something without knowing why. Suddenly Octavia (who we haven't been introduced to in the show yet) screams, and it turns out that Catra had left a (harmless) snake in her bunk. Adora removes the snake, but Octavia and Catra start fighting. One of Octavia's teammates grabs Catra, so Adora jumps in to assist her friend. Together, they win the impromptu tag wrestling match, but then Shadow Weaver walks floats in.

Chapter 4: Commander's Pet
Shadow Weaver admonishes the cadets for making noise the night before a training exercise. Adora downplays it as best she can, then lightly admonishes Catra for almost getting them into trouble (but agreeing Octavia's scream was pretty funny). Catra brings up that Adora's not even going to have to try tomorrow since Shadow Weaver thinks everything Adora does is great. Adora protests, but recalls an incident where both of them had climbed to the roof, and Catra got scolded while Adora got praised for her climbing skills. Catra reminisces about when she got to the Fright Zone, and how Adora latched on to her and has been the only one who's been nice to her, even if she sucks up to Shadow Weaver. She then drifts off to sleep while listening to Adora's breaths beneath her (also a direct quote from the book. So, y'know).

You'd think she'd at least take off that mask (?) when she sleeps

Chapter 5: Evaluation Day
At this point, the book largely becomes a novelization of the first episode and half of the second, so I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time on the rest of the chapters. Read Senerio's recaps for that. This chapter covers the training exercise at the start of E01, with the only notable addition being Adora's thoughts about Catra not taking the training seriously, thinking that will hurt their chances of being assigned to a squad.

Chapter 6: A Bittersweet Reward
This chapter covers the post-exercise scene in the locker room. Adora gets some thoughts about how it's not her fault that Shadow Weaver gives Catra a hard time, and that it would be good if Catra played by the rules sometimes. After Adora gets the badge, she also thinks that while she always wanted to be force captain, she didn't want it like this—without her friends.

Chapter 7: Back in Bright Moon
Glimmer's brought back to Bright Moon, and this very short chapter only covers the introductory conversation between Glimmer and Angella, only adding one line of Glimmer's thoughts: "How can I ever be a Rebellion commander if Mom won't let me rebel against anything?!"

Chapter 8: Into the Whispering Woods
Catra is annoyed since she was the one who finished off the robot in the training, not Adora. Then we get the scenes from where Catra finds Adora outside after getting her badge, up until Adora falls off the "borrowed" skiff in the Whispering Woods.

Chapter 9: Bow's Plan
Entirely the scene with Bow contacting Glimmer and Glimmer sneaking out. Just a little bit of extra narrative text about Glimmer's hopes for First Ones tech, and how it could win them the war.

Chapter 10: Adora's Vision
Adora finds the sword. At first she thinks she had a dream while knocked out, but realizes it had to have been real. She goes back to the woods and runs into Bow and Glimmer, and the chapter ends when Adora manages to touch the sword again.

Chapter 11: Light Hope's Challenge
From Adora talking to Light Hope, to the appearance of the giant insect, which is notably referred to as a robot insect in the book, something that I don't think the show ever hints at. Adora gets some extra internal lines doubting that nice princesses exist, and more disbelief regarding the Horde's actions.

Chapter 12: For the Honor of Grayskull!
Just the rest of E01. No additions to speak of.

Chapter 13: The First Ones
Covers the start of E02, up to when Adora activates the mural of She-Ra. Once again, some extra lines from Adora, where she can tell from Glimmer's emotions that the Horde has to have done terrible things, but she still finds it hard to believe, as well as a realization that the sword really only will respond to her.

Chapter 14: Adora's Choice
Adora sums up her thoughts as the hologram tries communicating with her: "Princesses might not be evil. First Ones disappeared a thousand years ago. Somehow I turn in to a princess named She-Ra?" When worrying about Glimmer, Adora wonders when she started worrying about princesses. The chapter, and indeed the book, ends with Adora following Glimmer and Bow instead of going back to the Fright Zone, adding some extra emphasis on that the only thing making it anything other than a very easy decision for her is that she really doesn't want to leave Catra behind.

The only real thing to note about the last few chapters is that after Adora goes back for the sword, the book never cuts back to the Fright Zone, so the scenes with Shadow Weaver and Catra are all missing. Could have been cool to get some more of Catra's thoughts there, but oh well.

The most notable thing about the book in my opinion is that it gives some more insight into Adora and Catra's pre-sword Horde life when they were at the age they are at the beginning of the show, something the show itself kinda omits. There will certainly be flashbacks to their past together, but that particular period of it is missing.

Other than that... it's just the first one-and-a-half episodes in book form. The additions aren't major. But was still fun to take a look at.

In the next intermission, animals!

The Saga

Season 1, Episode 11: Promise

Last time on She-Ra and the Princess of Power, the Princess Alliance fell apart, Glimmer kept glitching, and Entrapta ended up being alive but stuck in the Fright Zone. Adora and Catra both went out looking for a First Ones ruin in the Whispering Woods, and found it at the same time...

The ruins open for Adora, and Catra sneaks in right before it closes. Adora makes her way to a big chamber with a platform, and a hologram appears asking what she's there for. Adora says she wants to heal her friend, something She-Ra can do according to the legends. The hologram is unresponsive until Adora transforms into She-Ra.

After the opening theme plays, Adora tries asking again. The hologram talks about the sword, mentioning I believe for the first time that it is a portable runestone, and that it can heal, but Adora wants to know how to do that.

Raise your hand if you've never done This Exact Face at your computer (in this scene alone there were like four other screencaps I could have chosen with the exact same caption)

Adora wants to talk to someone more helpful, and remembers Light Hope. The hologram says Light Hope has waited for She-Ra, and they will meat, but first, Adora must "let go", whatever that means. Meanwhile, Catra takes a crystal from a holder, causing Adora to notice her. The hologram announces that there's an unauthorized presence, and activates security protocols. The doors start closing, so Adora drags Catra with her and spiders start emerging from a passage. Escaping into another tunnel, more spiders start chasing them. Adora crushes the spider under some rubble, and they start talking.

Catra: "Why are you looking at me like that? Wait... no, I know what this is about. Ugh, I knew you'd be weird about me letting you escape. I told you it's not because I like you!"
Adora: "I mean, I didn't... I didn't say anything."

Adora's mad at Catra for kidnapping and cursing her friends, and Catra says she'll find her own way out, but there's only one direction open so they stick together. They come to a dark chamber ("Cool. You found the infinite darkness room."), and when Catra tries to leave the door is gone. They find a small red light that scans them, and suddenly their surroundings become the Fright Zone. It becomes clear it's an illusion, and Adora hears Catra calling out for her.

Oh

They see child versions of themselves, replaying a memory of when Catra had fought with Octavia, scratched her on the eyeball and called her a dumbface. Adora has Catra take her to Octavia... so she too can call her a dumbface. They run away, hand in hand, as Octavia chases them.

Verrrry subtle

Adora realizes it's tapping into their memories. Catra's annoyed at all the magic weirdness, and Adora notes she only does this because Catra's actions led to Glimmer being cursed. As they continue on, Adora asks why Catra did help her escape, and Catra responds by stating that she weren't going to let Shadow Weaver erase Adora's memory. They agree that they have some good memories of their time in the Fright Zone, even if Adora maintains that the Horde is evil and she can't go back... but she misses Catra.

Catra: "Wha- pff, I don't miss you! Get over yourself!"
Adora: "Not until you admit you like me!"
Catra: "I don't like you!"

They fall into another Fright Zone illusion, this time of the training room. Adora and Catra spar, with Catra pulling a feint and winning until Lonnie jumps in, gets defeated by Catra, and then Adora knocks out Catra. Catra's mad at Lonnie and claims she let Adora win, but heads to the locker room and cries into the mirror... from which a spider emerges and grabs the now back to current Catra. Adora hears her cries and runs after her, but Catra's pulled into the mirror. Using her claws she manages to free herself and starts ripping apart the head and eyes of the spider, before Adora appears and takes it out with a downstab. Catra just wants to get out, and while Catra's going on about how she didn't need to be rescued, Adora apologizes for leaving.

Adora: "I couldn't go back to the Fright Zone. Not after I saw what the Horde was really doing! I never wanted to leave you!"

Adora says she knows Catra's not a bad person, that she can join the Rebellion... and the Fright Zone illusion returns. Child Catra and Adora are climbing along some cables hanging from the ceiling, and spots the door to the Black Garnet Chamber open. They know they're definitely not allowed in there, so being kids, of course they go in there. Current Adora tells Catra she doesn't need to go in, but being Catra, of course she goes in there, followed by Adora. Shadow Weaver enters to recharge and takes off her mask, then notices the two kids. They try to escape, but Shadow Weaver seals the room and stops Catra with magic. She admonishes Catra, saying she expects such behaviour from her, but doesn't want her to drag Adora down as well. Adora protests that it was actually her idea, and Shadow Weaver states that she's only kept Catra around because Adora's fond of her. Adora begs for Shadow Weaver to stop, and is told she needs to keep Catra under control. As they leave, both the current and child versions of they duo argue about how Adora never protected Catra in any way that would put her on Shadow Weaver's bad side.

Catra: "When you left, who do you think took the fall for you? Who was protecting me then?"
Adora: "You don't have to let Shadow Weaver treat you like that anymore. You can leave, just like I did!"
Catra: "Oh, because I need to follow you everywhere you go?"
Adora: "I didn't mean it that way!

Catra's not having it, and finally answers why she gave the sword back to Adora in the Fright Zone... because she didn't want her to come back. The spiders come back, and Adora tries transforming, but the sword is knocked out of her hands. Catra runs down a corridor as old memories appear around her, until she finds herself in the Fright Zone sleeping quarters. Child Catra is sitting on Adora's bunk, wrapped in Adora's blanket, crying. Child Adora comes in to comfort her.

Child Adora: "Nothing really bad can happen as long as we have each other."
Both Catras, in unison: "You promise?"
Child Adora: "I promise."

Aaaaaw

Child Catra looks at current Catra before we see Adora fighting spiders next to a pit. The spiders dangle her over the pit and she falls down, holding onto their webbing, when Catra shows up and trashes the spiders before walking up to the edge of the pit. Adora asks Catra to help her, but Catra starts going on about how Adora was holding her back, and she was just the sidekick to Adora's hero. Adora says that's not how it was, Catra says she had wanted Adora to come back to the Horde, but has now realized her leaving was the best thing that happened to her. She cuts the webbing with the sword before throwing it down the pit and walking away. As Adora's hanging on, she sees Light Hope, who tells her to let go. Crying, she does, falling down the pit...

Catra: "Bye, Adora!"

...and in the Fright Zone, Entrapta's working on Emily while Scorpia tells her about her adventures with Catra, who walks in and wonders why Entrapta's loose. Remembering she's still supposed to be a prisoner, she jumps back into her restraints before Catra hands her the crystal she picked up. It turns out to be a data crystal, one better preserved than any Entrapta's seen before. But as Catra leaves, she hears Scorpia saying something that makes her wince...

Scorpia: "Oh, man, I knew Catra could do it! It's like I was telling you, she is the best friend ever!"

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, we get formally introduced to a much beloved character.

The Saga

Season 1, Episode 12: Light Hope

Last time on She-Ra and the Princess of Power, Catra burned her bridges with Adora, who fell down a pit. Catra also brought back a First Ones data crystal for Entrapta.

Adora falls. During the fall, windows of memories flash around her, before she wakes up in a chamber where Light Hope greets her. She wonders if it's real, before introducing herself to Light Hope. Light Hope says she's been waiting for Adora since she was an infant, but could not reach or protect her before, but has been watching her. Adora finds that creepy, and Light Hope tries another form that Adora finds worse, and tries to change into something else.

Adora: "Please stop!"

After the intro, we're in Bright Moon. Glimmer, still glitching, is wondering when Adora is coming back (and gets mad at the furniture). When trying to figure out what to do, a guard comes and tells Glimmer that something's here to see her. In walks the horse that She-Ra transformed, introducing himself as Swift Wind.

Bow, freaking out: "Our horse can talk!"

While Bow and Glimmer keeps being amazed, Swift Wind says that Adora's in trouble, since he can feel where she is and wants their help to go save her. Bow doesn't think Angella wants them to head out on another mission so soon, so Glimmer says they'll just sneak out and in again before she notices they're gone.

I just had to grab this frame for the old cartoon energy it has

Angella wanted to see why the guard escorted a horse to Glimmer's room, but doesn't find the reveal that it's a talking horse worth more than a raised eyebrow. She also had no intent on stopping them, instead ordering Commander Glimmer to find Adora and bring her back.

Angella: "...and please be careful."

In the Fright Zone, Catra has gotten a note. Entrapta pops out of a vent, having dropped said note on Catra previously. Entrapta's put together a lab from stuff she's... found.

Catra: "Where did all of this come from?"
Entrapta: "Oh, you know, here and there... rooms..."
Catra: "Were there people in these rooms?"
Entrapta: "Well... not when I went back to take the stuff."

Entrapta excitedly talks about her findings from the data crystal, findings that go entirely over Catra's head, so she asks Entrapta to talk like a normal person (Scorpia, meanwhile, is drawing stick figures holding hands.). Entrapta tries explaining in the most basic terms possible, frustrating Catra further, who just wants to know if Entrapta can upgrade the Horde's weapons. Entrapta says it's much bigger than that, that she's discovered that whatever the First Ones did to Etheria, it went deep, and drags them with her to show them her model of Etheria.

Back in the First Ones ruin, Adora wonders who exactly Light Hope is, and she calls herself Etheria's facilitator. She also explains that the First Ones came from beyond the stars to settle Etheria, and built the structure they are now in—the Crystal Castle. Light Hope explains that She-Ra is appointed to protect the planet, and that there's been many before her... but she's the first in a thousand years, as the line was broken by the previous She-Ra. Cutting between the two of them, Entrapta and Light Hope explain  that everything on the planet is connected, that the runestones grant the princesses power and She-Ra has to restore balance to Etheria by bringing the princesses together. The runestones are connected to the planet's power grid, in a delicate balance—as it turns out the entire planet can be considered First Ones tech.

Entrapta: "Which means, they're our best access point to hack the planet."

I had to get at least one screencap of Overly Excited Entrapta

Scorpia mentions that the Horde does have a runestone—the Black Garnet, making Entrapta even more excited. Catra says she'll get Entrapta the Black Garnet, despite what Shadow Weaver might think... and we then see that Imp has been spying on the trio, and reports back Entrapta's findings to Hordak.

Adora keeps trying to get answers about healing from Light Hope, and learns that Glimmer's connection to her runestone was disrupted. She-Ra will be able to do many things with training... but the training will take years. Adora can't wait that long to fix it.

Light Hope: "Yes. Your mission is to fix the planet."
Adora: "My mission is to help my friends. That's why I came here."

Light Hope argues that She-Ra has to help the entire planet, and that there was one before her who could not let go, in the previous She-Ra... Mara. She was overwhelmed by her powers, and what she did stranded Etheria in the empty dimension of Despondos, breaking the She-Ra line. Light Hope wants Adora to be the She-Ra that Mara could not be, and Adora says she'll come back once she's healed Glimmer. Light Hope shows her images of Glimmer, Bow, Catra, and Entrapta, and says Adora's friends are endangered by her presence. But Adora doesn't want to leave them.

Entrapta, meanwhile, is hooking up machinery in the Black Garnet chamber. Shadow Weaver angrily bursts in, but is interrupted by Hordak appearing on the screens in the room. He was intrigued by Entrapta's plans, and gave Catra and her team the go-ahead. Shadow Weaver protests, but since Entrapta has improved everything she's touched, Hordak says she gets to tinker with whatever she wants—including the Black Garnet, since he thinks Shadow Weaver has wasted its power on parlor tricks. Shadow Weaver lashes out with her magic, but Catra manages to dodge her attacks and strike the gem on her mask, depriving Shadow Weaver of her powers and sending her to the prison before telling Entrapta to activate the machines.

A very cathartic moment. If you're keeping count, that's twice that Shadow Weaver has been defeated by her protégés in the span of six episodes.

Entrapta: "Alright, everyone... let's get weeeird!

A power surge goes through the Black Garnet, causing a beam of energy to shoot up into the sky. In the Whispering Woods, where Glimmer, Bow, and Swift Wind are heading for Adora, animals start stampeding and it starts snowing, which has never happened in the woods before. Red lightning flashes in the sky, and they see the beam of light from the Crystal Castle, that Swift Wind manages to open. They find Adora on a crystal slab, in a deep sleep. Swift Wind tries contacting her as spiders appear, and Light Hope starts glitching out before Swift Wind appears in front of Adora.

Adora: "You can talk?"
Swift Wind: "I can see now why you're friends with Bow and Glimmer."

Okay, nobody likes Swift Wind, but I do enjoy this shot of him being 100% done with everyone in the Best Friend Squad

He explains Bow and Glimmer needs help, but Adora doesn't know how to make it out... and doesn't know if she should, to keep people safe. Swift Wind declares that's stupid, and that she should use her powers to help the people she loved. Adora declares she didn't become She-Ra to fulfill some destiny, but to help others and her attachments are part of her. She wakes up, transforms, and makes short work of the spiders. Heading out into the blizzard, Swift Wind carries them into the sky, where they see that the crazy weather is going on all over Etheria. They hurry towards Bright Moon, while Scorpia and Catra observe the chaos from the Fright Zone.

Scorpia: "Wow... what do you think it's doing?"
Catra: "I don't know... but I can work with this."

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, everything's fine, no need to panic.

I watched the very long Sarah Z video about Shipping Wars and apparently some people think Catra and Adora getting together at the end is incest because they are "basically sisters, which means they are sisters and therefor incest" and I'm like "what?".
Despite how obvious it is, this does still fall under being spoilers for things that haven't happened yet. The spoiler policy in the first post still applies.

Please put it in spoiler tags, then. I doubt anyone's actually following along as a first watch at this point, anyone who started when the thread started likely continued watching on their own. But still, someone might jump in later.

But even people who have already watched should post more (because there's already six updates on this page and I'd like a new page before the next one).

Come to think of it, do we get ANYONE’S actual ages on the show (I assume Adora and Catra are probably teenagers, maybe Glimmer and Bow as well)?
Frosta, at eleven and three quarters. That's about it, though. Entrapta was confirmed outside of the show to be around 30 years old, while (save for Frosta) I'd put the rest of the current princesses (also Catra) at around 16-20. Scorpia has to be a bit older than that, given that she was already born and considered a princess by the time Hordak showed up, her grandfather was king of the scorpion people at the time, and Micah was by my estimate around 13-14 years old when that happened.

The Saga

Season 1, Episode 13: The Battle of Bright Moon

Last time on She-Ra and the Princess of Power, Entrapta hacked the Black Garnet, causing the weather on Etheria to go crazy and giving Catra ideas....

The Best Friend Squad is flying towards Bright Moon on Swift Wind, and Adora notes that the craziness is coming from the Fright Zone. The Whispering Woods are frozen over, and Glimmer's still glitching...

Cue the theme song!

In the Fright Zone, Catra's observing the skies. She's called to the Black Garnet chamber and shown exactly what's going on, while Entrapta, gleefully riding around the room on a spinning chair, records a technobabble-filled audio log about it.

Catra, stopping Entrapta's chair with her foot: "Translate."

"As per my last email"

By supercharging one runestone, it's started sapping power from the others, upsetting Etheria's balance and making the weather go screwy. Catra'a very interested in the part about making the other elemental princesses less powerful (Entrapta doesn't have a runestone, and Scorpia has no connection with the Black Garnet, so they're not affected) and wants to make it permanent, and by breaking a light on Entrapta's model, learns that destroying one of the other runestones should work.

Catra: "Get a strike team together. We're going to Bright Moon."

Angella uses the Moonstone to set off a distress beacon, leading Glimmer and the others back. Angella explains that it's taking all her power to maintain the connection and for the Moonstone to counteract what's going on. Bow wonders what the plan is, and Adora says they have to prepare for an attack. Horde armies have been spotted in the woods going towards Bright Moon. The only princesses to have answered the distress call are Netossa and Spinnerella, to Bow's badly feigned excitement.

Netossa: "You still don't know what we do, do you?"
Bow: "Ehh... no."
Netossa: "Seriously? It's in the name! Net-tossa? Nets! I toss nets! Okay?"
Spinnerella: "Yes, darling, you have beautiful nets."

Angella thinks it's too dangerous for Glimmer to fight without her powers and while still glitching, and Adora agrees. She doesn't even want anyone else to risk themselves, saying She-Ra can do it alone. Bow disagrees.

Adora: "Then what good is she?" (with a very, very clear undertone of "Then what good am I?")

She leaves the room but Bow and Glimmer go after her. Adora knows Catra will be leading the attack, and has to face her. She blames herself (surprise) for having pushed Catra further to the side of evil while in the First Ones temple. The Best Friend Squad hug it out and go to prepare, Glimmer leading them to the armory. Well, not really the armory, just a room full of weapons that Glimmer has sneaked away. Swift Wind falls in love with a mace, an idea that Adora nixes.

Yeah there was no way I wasn't gonna screencap this

Angella enters, revealing she knew all along that Glimmer had been hoarding weapons. But instead of getting mad, she gives Glimmer a staff—Micah's staff, and just in time for the Horde to start attacking the castle. Adora transforms, into a slightly new form—Battler She-Ra (with Bow and Glimmer getting some new armour as well). They head out and are faced with several tanks that start firing at the Moonstone. Adora cuts a projectile that was heading for it, and the fight is on. Angella goes to keep the Moonstone running for as long as she can, while the other take to the battlefield. They fight off multiple Horde tanks, skiffs, and robots, though Bright Moon takes some damage. Adora is hit by a blast and drops the shield she had transformed her sword into, and looks up to see Catra standing on a tank.

Catra: "Hey, Adora."

Meanwhile Bow and Glimmer are taking out Horde skiffs, when Scorpia shows up on a tank and threatens Glimmer. Spinnerella descends and pushes the tank away, before her wife traps it in a big net.

Netossa: "Boom. Nets."

Adora and Catra fight on the cliffs surrounding Bright Moon. Without her sword, Adora goes for heavy punches, but Catra's nimble enough to dodge her attacks. Adora tries convincing Catra she won't win, to which Catra replies she's made it farther than anyone thoughs. She jumps over Adora, landing on and planting her claws in her back. Adora uses the opportunity to grab Catra and smash her into the cliff wall behind them. But Catra manages to maintain the upper hand, and launches a verbal assault on Adora, saying she'll fail and that she's too weak to save her friends. In response, Adora chucks a rock at her, leaving her hanging off the edge of the cliff. Adora pulls her up and claims Catra lost, but a lot more robots and talks have shown up to fire on the Moonstone, shattering the barrier Angella was keeping up. Glimmer heads to her mother's aid, but is stopped by Scorpia, while Adora searches for her shield... when a group of Horde soldiers manage to subdue her with electrified whips. Bow finds the shield, but Angella is blasted by a robot while Glimmer's trying to get past Scorpia, and the Moonstone darkens. Catra approaches Adora...

Catra: "Now it's over."

I'm just gonna keep saying "subtle"

Glimmer manages to knock Scorpia away, and Swift Wind brings her up to the Moonstone. They take out the robot, while on the battlefield Adora is joined by Bow, Spinnerella, and Netossa, who puts up a net-barrier around them. Bow wants Adora to say they can still fix it, but Adora sees no way out. Suddenly Adora's shield starts glowing, and globs of water start floating up.

"The gently caress?" (which is quickly replaced by "Oh gently caress.")

Cue Mermista riding a huge wave coming in, along with Sea Hawk. The front line of tanks is taken out, Catra is washed away, and Mermista puts out the fires. Catra tries rallying her forces, but then vines appear, binding the soldiers and tanks. Perfuma arrives riding a vine, and with the tide of battle turned, Adora starts glowing. Catra manages to get onto a tank and fires one more shot at the Moonstone... and the pedestal it's on starts crumbling. But before it can fall, it's covered in ice, leaving it standing. More ice pops out of the ground, knocking tanks away, and Frosta comes ice-surfing in. Holding up her sword, She-Ra glows even more and golden light erupts from her.

Adora: "For Etheria!"

The light reaches the Moonstone, which erupts in an aura of light, clearing the darkness and the weather. The other four runestones are affected by it, with the machinery hooked up to the Black Garnet breaking off and the power going out in its chamber. Angella and Glimmer starts glowing, which fixes Glimmer's glitching, and she teleports down to the others. Together, the princesses (plus Bow and Sea Hawk) make short work of the Horde forces. She-Ra's sword glows further, and the gathered princesses all start glowing in different colours, unleashing a rainbow blast of concentrated gay magic energy.

When asked what this rainbow represented, the crew actually did reply "The gay agenda"

It washes away the remaining Horde soldiers, including Catra, who glares at Adora as she and Scorpia make their exit on a skiff. The battle is won, Bright Moon is safe, and the princesses have finally truly united again. Angella hives the Best Friend Squad a big hug, thanking them. Adora detransforms with tears of happiness in her eyes.

Back in the Fright Zone, the Super Pal Trio walks up to Hordak's throne. He claims Catra's "experiment" failed, but Entrapta disagrees, as she now knows more about First Ones tech than ever before and says that this is just the beginning. Catra argues that she got closer to conquering Bright Moon than anyone ever has, and even if they didn't succeed in that, their biggest line of defense—the Whispering Woods—is still ruined.

Catra: "Etheria is ours for the taking."
Hordak: "Very well, Force Captain Catra. You will have other chances to prove your worth to me, as my second in command."

We'll have to see if getting what she wanted was worth it in the next season

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Frosta does what she's told.

The Saga

Intermission #2: Island of Magical Creatures

With the first season over, it's time for another intermission. Last intermission we looked at the first SPoP book, so this time, we're going to be looking at... the second SPoP book! Like Origin of a Hero, this one was written by Tracey West and published by Scholastic, and came out in June of 2019, roughly halfway between seasons 2 and 3. Chronologically, however, we're at just the right time for it, as its story kicks off just a few days after the Battle of Bright Moon. And as opposed to Origin of a Hero, it's a wholly original story.

...but you might want to temper your expectations, because this book is... not that great. It's not offensively bad or anything, just kinda bland. It's also clearly written for a somewhat younger audience than the show, and very Swift Wind-heavy.

So let's just get into it!

Chapter 1: Into the Woods
In the days following the Battle, Adora and Swift Wind are patrolling the Whispering Woods to clean up remaining Horde robots. Adora's not sure was a duck is. Emphasis is put on the Horde robots looking like four-legged spiders. Swift Wind notes he can't fly if he doesn't have room to flap his wings, so he has to stay above the trees. They destroy a robot and then Adora has to go to a Princess Council meeting. Swift Wind wants to come but Adora notes he's not a princess, and he talks about how he doesn't like hanging out with regular horses since they're not magical. Reminiscing about her fight with Catra in the battle, Adora still has some hope that she can get through to her and bring her over to the princesses' side, but also knows she's too loyal to the Horde. She also muses on that if she hadn't found the sword, she would have been the one to lead the charge on Bright Moon with Catra by her side and then the Horde would have won. Then Glimmer shows up and teleports them into the meeting room.

Chapter 2: The Princess Council
The princesses (and Swift Wind, who got to stay) have their meeting. They try to think of ways to strengthen the Rebellion. They consider recruiting and training more soldiers, but they need something special. Frosta points out Swift Wind, and Angella mentions he might not be the only magical creature on Etheria, with there being a First Ones mural showing an island of animals who seem to have powers. The Best Friend Squad, plus Swift Wind, will go check it out. This chapter also has a bunch of Swift Wind feeling marginalized by the way Adora words things. We're gonna see more of that.

Chapter 3: An Ancient Mural
Glimmer and Bow praise Swift Wind. Adora brings up how she's not working great with him yet. They find the mural, and it depicts animals doing weird things. Adora translates some First Ones writing saying that the energy on Arcana Island makes the creatures there develop unusual powers. They also find a map pointing out the island, and go back to report. Angella gives them the go-ahead, and it's decided that Mermista, Frosta, and Perfuma will go with them to the island, while Netossa and Spinnerella stays behind to guard Bright Moon.

Chapter 4: Eyes in the Darkness
Perfuma points out a beautiful flower. Bow picks it for her, and she points out it's poisonous. They set up camp, Adora is still amazed that Bright Moon's rations is actual food rather than coloured food bars, and she takes first watch. She thinks over her Horde training and that it still comes in handy in situations like this, but realizes she has completely dropped the ball on covering their tracks and not giving away their location. Towards the end of her watch sees two small lights shine in the forest... one blue, and one yellow.

"Like Catra's eyes, Adora thought, but they couldn't be, could they?"

Chapter 5: Across the Ice Bridge
Frosta and Mermista argue over if seals or penguins are cuter. Glimmer and Adora talk about Horde stuff. They get to a gorge, Frosta makes an ice bridge, and an Elemental shoots up from the gorge, cracking the bridge. Adora is about to transform when the sword is knocked out of her hands, and it turns out Catra and Scorpia have showed up. That's the entire chapter, it's only two pages long, making me wonder why they even bothered making it a separate chapter.

Chapter 6: Battle on the Gorge
We immediately nullify the point of Adora having the sword knocked away by Glimmer teleporting to grab it and Adora transforms within five lines of the start of this chapter. The Elemental is pacified by the presence of She-Ra, but Scorpia's got Bow in a headlock.

Get it together, Bow

Glimmer gives her a teleport-kick in the back of the knee which makes her let go, then Bow traps her in a net arrow. Catra attacks Adora on the bridge, Adora stumbles, Frosta flies in on Swit Wind and traps Catra with some ice. The bridge starts breaking, Adora throws Catra to solid ground, then leaps off the crumbling bridge to the other side. Swift Wind and Frosta call each other nicknames, which maked Adora jealous. Glimmer thinks Adora should have let the Elemental keep Catra busy, making Adora think about how she still has hope that Catra could be saved someday. (that's literally how the book words it.)

Chapter 7: Arcana Island
They reach the lake containing the island, and while arguing about how they're going to get there, they conveniently find a boat. Adora thinks it's too convenient and might be a trap, but they use it anyway. Mermista notes the water feels charged or magical. Reaching the island, they find it's protected by a First Ones hologram with writing on it. In the Etherian version of putting a post-it with your password on your monitor, the password to get through it is also written on it. They enter and see a bunch of animals on the shore.

Frosta, reminding us what book we're reading: "Wow! It's the Island of Magical Creatures!"

Chapter 8: Twinkles the Mighty
The first animal they run across is a skunk, which of course sprays them... but its spray smells like flowers. They realize these animals might not be useful to them. A hedgehog approaches them, Swift Wind informs them he can speak several animal languages (but not raccoon). The hedgehog introduces himself as Twinkles the Mighty, leader of the island, and demonstrates that he can grow to elephant-size. They explain to him they've been looking for help against the Horde, but the animals of the island are peaceful. Some of them want to help, though, so the animals are gonna have a council. Some animals show off their powers. Mehira, a mountain lion with super speed. Winda, a porcupine who does martial arts and can fire quills with perfect accuracy. Tajana, a white fox who can turn invisible. Treeleaf, a deer who can change colours, and that Adora is completely awed by (which annoys Swift Wind). And lastly Felix, a sloth that can float in the air. Swift Wind says it's not flying, and Adora agrees that Swift Wind is the only creature on Etheria that can fly, except for birds, and butterflies, and those black-and-yellow things that sting you. Swift Wind is further annoyed and Adora laments that she always says the wrong thing to him. They're also told that most of the creatures don't have strong powers, just stuff like the skunk and the sloth.

Chapter 9: Following Treeleaf
Each character bonds with one animal: Frosta with Tajana, Perfuma with Lily the skunk, Glimmer with Mehira, Bow with Winda, and...

Mermista, as always, has the right idea

Adora talks to Swift Wind, who starts opening up to her, then Treeleaf comes by and has them follow him to a cave with First Ones paintings that note there was people living on the island in the past. On the way there, Adora finally figures out what a duck is after seeing one. The people left and the animals have been waiting for them to come back ever since. Adora finally realizes Swift Wind is jealous of how taken she is by Treeleaf. The animals prepare a "feast" for them while they have their council, consisting of leaves, flowers, nuts, and berries.

Mermista: "That is literally rabbit food."

The animal council takes forever so they end up falling asleep, and Adora dreams about running through the woods with Treeleaf, then sees two eyes, one blue and one yellow... and then Swift Wind wakes her up, as Twinkles has shown up to report that intruders are coming and they're not princesses.

Chapter 10: Catra's Back!
Adora wakes up her friends, and the report is that there's a dozen soldiers, six machine animals, a cat-eyed girl, and someone who looks like a crab. Adora believes the machine animals are the regular Horde bots, since they look kinda like spiders. Turns out it's not, but actually robot animals—a lion, a bear, a horse, and an alligator (yes, the book only lists four, and the other two are never seen again). The animals head to safety as the Princesses and Bow attack the Horde. Adora goes right for Catra, who reveals she had sent a spy bot to follow them.

Here we see two species of lesbian: Angry and Smug

Adora wonders where all their new technology is coming from, to which Catra replies they have a secret weapon now. Three of the animal 'bots surround Adora and Catra demands to know where on the island the First Ones tech is. Adora tells her there's nothing at all on the island, but Catra doesn't buy it. The animals join the attack, the robots are destroyed, and Catra gets porcupine needles in her arm. Catra vows to return with a bigger force, but Treeleaf wipes their memories of the last twenty-four hours, because that's apparently his other power. Mermista summons a wave to bring Catra and her squad to the other side of the lake, and the animals have come to a decision: They're going to leave the island to join the fight against the Horde.

Chapter 11: Decisions
Adora disagrees, saying the animals should stay and protect the animals that can't fight. Twinkles agrees. With Bow and Swift Wind's assistance, Adora changes the password on the barrier to "Treeleaf", which Swift Wind is still not happy about. As they prepare to leave, Adora has a word with Swift Wind.

Adora: "If you want to stay here, with the animals, I understand."

Chapter 12: A Bond at Last?
Swift Wind's slightly offended by it, thinking Adora's saying that she doesn't need him anymore, but Adora assures him she just wants him to be happy and that nobody could take his place.

Adora: "We're linked by the sword, Swift Wind. I can't be She-Ra without you."
Swift Wind: "And I wouldn't be Swift Wind without you."

Adora tells the animals that they'll be back to visit when they've defeated the Horde and Etheria is safe, and they all bid their animal friends farewell.

Hugs for everyone!

On the way back, Adora tells Glimmer she thinks she's finally bonded with Swift Wind. When they get off the boat, Perfuma says Adora should fly back on Swift Wind, but Adora says that princesses need to stick together.

Swift Wind: "You princesses can stick together. But this horse is flying home. See ya later!"
Glimmer: "So you bonded, huh?"
Adora: "Maybe not this time. But I have a feeling it will happen soon!

Aaaaand that's the end of the book. I'll be real with you, this recap was a bit less effort than I usually put in, just because I don't think it's that good of a book. But I'm nothing if not thorough. SO AHEAD WE FORGE.

In the next intermission, witches!

The Saga

Season 2, Episode 1: The Frozen Forest

Last time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the Princess Alliance successfully defended Bright Moon, but they lost the defense of the Whispering Woods. Also, Catra became Hordak's new second in command.

Horde robots are roaming the remains of the woods, so the Princess Alliance do what they can to hold the line. Glimmer takes one out by grabbing on to it and teleporting high up, then teleporting back alone.

Glimmer: "Thanks for dropping in."
Frosta, laughing: "Dropping in! Because you dropped him from the sky. Good one."

After we're treated to Warriors, we see She-Ra taking out several robots by transforming her sword into various things. A shield, a polearm, a flail, and... a mug.

"Why does it even have that function?"

Catra: "Oh, cute. You can turn your sword into stuff."

Adora and Catra have a tussle in which Adora turns her sword into a flute. Frosta annoys Glimmer with questions and being overly excited. Adora has Catra pinned and swings the flute at her face, but stops before it connects... at which point it's revealed she's just a hologram. Adora wasn't actually in the Whispering Woods, but doing a training simulation in the Crystal Castle. Adora ask if Light Hope had to make Catra so mean, and gets the response that the simulation is designed for total accuracy. Adora questions her performance, which Light Hope agrees with (her human inspiration protocol is still in the beta stage). Adora's problem is Catra, who just knows how to push her buttons.

Light Hope: "I can relate. I also have buttons."

Light Hope tells Adora that she's come a long way, but there's still much to do and that she must master her emotions, so she doesn't repeat Mara's mistakes. The hologram of the Whispering Woods comes back, this time with a huge insect. Adora transforms her sword... into a fork.

Training is also what's on the schedule in the Fright Zone. Lonnie, Rogelio, and Kyle are fighting training robots representing princesses, and a big one representing She-Ra enters. Kyle gets hit and cowers on the ground.

Catra: "Who can tell me what Kyle did wrong?"
Lonnie: "Where do you start?"

Catra gives them some pointers—She-Ra's too strong to defeat with force alone, but slow and easily manipulated. Catra demonstrates by taking out the robot and telling them to fix it and continue, before heading to Entrapta's room. Stuff from her castle has been delivered, and she shows Catra and Scorpia recordings from the robots in the woods. She notes they get destroyed too easily. Catra thinks they should just keep them busy with regular robots, but Entrapta holds up a First Ones crystal...

Entrapta: "I have an even better idea."

Adora leaves the Crystal Castle, where she runs into Swift Wind who flies her to Bright Moon. Glimmer brags about how many bots she took out, while Bow notes that all they do is fight off bots now, and asks if Adora learned anything new. She demonstrates that she's gotten better at transforming her sword by turning it into... a pitcher.

"I totally meant to do that."

Frosta pops up behind Glimmer and starts chatting away. Glimmer tries to get rid of her by saying that they've got a meeting, but since it's a war council for the Princess Alliance, Frosta's going there too.

Bow: "Do we have a new addition to the Best Friend Squad?"
Glimmer: "Shut up."

At the council, Perfuma says Mermista is sitting in her chair. Which I'm just going to note never made sense to me, because the chair Mermista's using has the same fish scale-like pattern as on her pants/tail, what looks like fins, and what's clearly a depiction of the Salinean runestone on it. And the chair Perfuma sits in has a flower and a depiction of her runestone. I'm gonna guess the animators just messed this up and they were meant to actually have those chairs swapped.

Castaspella's also at the council, and immediately gets criticized by Angella. Swift Wind (who also wants a chair), Netossa, and Spinnerella have recaptured Thaymor (again). Glimmer delivers the report from the woods, and Perfuma suggests they should try healing. Her powers aren't enough on their own, but if they could recapture the energy they got when working together in the battle, she might be able to regrow the woods faster.

"Unhand me, hippie."

Bow suggests capturing a whole robot for him to study, then he might be able to make a killswitch to take all of them out. Angella approves and orders them to carry out the plan. As they head out, Glimmer tells Frosta to stay behind with Netossa and Spinnerella to guard the castle.

Catra reports her progress to Hordak, who approves while Entrapta is wandering around behind his throne, digging through piles of tech. She introduces their new weapon: A three-legged, self-repairing robot that she calls Emily's Kid Sister (EKS for short). Hordak's impressed, but Entrapta notes she only had enough First Ones tech to make four. Catra adds that she knows where there's more.

In the woods, Glimmer says they're gonna split up. Her, Adora, and Bow in one team, Mermista and Perfuma in one, and Swift Wind scouting from the skies... and then Frosta shows up.

Frosta: "I know I ignored orders, but no offense... those orders were wrong."

Glimmer scolds Frosta but since she's not going to leave, she sticks her with Perfuma and Mermista (while Frosta wants to go with Glimmer). Glimmer's team spots an EKS, and Adora, being Adora, jumps onto it and shoves her sword into it. It comes back to life, throws her off, and Glimmer attacking doesn't produce results either. Adora transforms and whacks it around, but to their horror, it repairs itself. The other three EKSes come, Adora transforms her sword into an umbrella, and again Frosta shows up where she's not supposed to and starts pounding on one of them with ice fists. It tosses her off a cliff, so Glimmer saves her. The robots scan them, then wander off without attacking further.

Glimmer's mad at Frosta, who argues she just wanted to help. Frosta runs off in tears while Bow laments they'll never be able to catch one of these new bots and the plan was stupid. Adora tells him he was the only one who came up with a real plan, and they brainstorm. The bots didn't care about the woods, and only defended themselves, so their mission wasn't attacking... and they all headed off in the same direction. The direction of the beacon! Adora knows where they're going and has a plan... which needs Frosta, so Glimmer goes to find her. She fins her sitting on a rock, sulking, saying she just wanted to be Glimmer's friend.

Frosta: "Sorry I don't know how to act. I've never had any friends before!"

Having taken over her kingdom's throne when she was only eight years old, Frosta's not been able to make any friends before. To her surprise, Glimmer can relate, since she didn't have any real friends before Bow and Adora. Frosta even reminds Glimmer of herself... and Glimmer's certainly no stranger to throwing herself into dangerous situations. She realizes she sounded like her mom when yelling at Frosta, and really doesn't want that to happen again. They make up, and head for the beacon. The EKSes have already made their way there, and sending images back to the Fright Zone.

It's a Super Pal Trio movie night! In the middle of the day.

Catra: "That place has enough First Ones tech inside to power a whole armada of robots. Forever!"
Entrapta: "Aaaaah! I want that!"

The EKSes then start slipping on ice that Frosta has laid down. Everyone attacks the bots, and since they only need one, they can destroy three. Perfuma and Mermista take out one by binding it with vines and filling it with water until it bursts, and combined efforts take out another. Adora transforms the sword into a rope, which while not what she was after, she makes work and trips one of the remaining bots. Knowing Catra's watching, she jumps on top of it and faces the camera before punching it.

Adora: "Hey, Catra."

Catra makes it self-destruct, leaving just one robot left. Its eye starts blinking, so they do what they can to interrupt it. Adora punches it into the wall, Mermista splashes it with water, and Frosta freezes it in place. Perfuma binds it with vines, and Bow rips out a component, which deactivates it. As they celebrate the victory, the princesses start glowing again, causing the Whispering Woods to start regrowing. In the Fright Zone, Catra visits Shadow Weaver in prison to gloat, but Shadow Weaver can tell she's still annoyed over Adora. The princesses relax after their win, and Frosta thanks Glimmer for rescuing her before.

Glimmer: "Friends stick together! No princess left behind."

Bow starts taking apart the robot, while talking into a recorder because that's what the best scientist he ever knew did, even if he's not sure why. Popping open its "face", he finds a First Ones crystal. But the only one who knew how to use that was...

Bow: "Hold on to your hat, future Bow. Entrapta's alive! ...and we left her behind."

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Catra behaves herself.

The Saga

Season 2, Episode 2: Ties That Bind

Last time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Bow figured out that Entrapta was still alive, since the new Horde robots were made with First Ones tech... meaning that she's still in the Fright Zone.

Catra: "The city's forces have all fled. Dryl is ours."
Scorpia: "All right! I mean, I... I guess it kind of already was ours since their princess is on our side and all, but the banners really make it feel official."
Catra: "Where are you?"
Scorpia: That is a great question, and the answer is... I do not know. Yeah, this place is some kind of maze."
Catra (tapping her Force Captain badge to mark her position on Scorpia's map): "There, that's me. Follow it out when you're done, and hurry up, we've got work to do."

In the Crystal Castle, Adora defeats an EKS in a training simulation. Light Hope notes that she would have been more effective with her steed, so it's time to bring Swift Wind into the training. Said steed enters through Light Hope, who states it's time for them to forge their–

Glimmer has been told about Entrapta, and Bow believes the Horde is keeping her prisoner. Glimmer thinks they should have tried going back for her back when she disappeared, and that they're going to rescue her now instead. They've just gotten word that the Horde has taken Dryl, and they think the Horde is making Entrapta use her lab in Dryl. Glimmer doesn't want to bring anyone else, so it's just her and Bow that heads to the Crypto Castle.

Light Hope has frozen. After some poking by Adora, she finishes her sentence and they explain she froze. Light Hope notes that her system's overloading, but Adora might be able to help. There was a structure called the Watchtower that allowed Light Hope to communicate with an interplanetary mainframe, but Mara destroyed it. If Adora can repair it, Light Hope will function better... and then she freezes again, so Adora and Swift Wind head out.

Adora: "Okay, so... we're just gonna... we're just gonna go."

Faces.

Glimmer and Bow look for Entrapta in the castle, but nothing. Catra walks by their hiding spot, and gets a call from Kyle. Entrapta's new invention is going berserk, and Entrapta tries to calm it down. Glimmer and Bow mistake her talking to the robot as her being tortured, so Glimmer attacks Catra. Scorpia shows up, and after some fighting, Glimmer and Bow try to escape by teleporting out, but this being the Crypto Castle, it goes... poorly.

Bow: "Waaait... isn't this where we started?"
Glimmer: "Ugh! I hate this place!"
Catra: "I see the rebels sent their finest."

Catra attacks, and when Glimmer tries to teleport herself and Bow out, Catra manages to grab onto her and is teleported with them, a little distance off the ground. Catra faceplants, and Bow traps her in a net arrow.

Smooth

Adora and Swift Wind have reached the location of the Watchtower, and all that's there at the moment is grass and a bunch of floating rocks. To Adora's displeasure, Swift Wind sings a little song. Adora thinks there's nothing there, but Swift Wind senses something magical. And that something's troubling Adora, because he's attuned to her emotions... and because Adora's really bad at hiding her feelings. He doesn't get any answers, so he goes to do some loop-de-loops instead... and then Adora spots that the floating rocks have glowy blue lines on them. Yep, they found the Watchtower.

Bow doesn't like that they've taken a hostage, because that's something bad guys do. Glimmer questions Catra about Entrapta, and the best reply she gets is that they're taking good care of her. Catra refuses to walk and Bow thinks Glimmer shouldn't teleport more so far from Bright Moon, so... walking it is. Catra keeps being deliberately difficult and delaying them. Bow almost gets to her by mentioning Adora, then talks about how he's always been friends with Glimmer and how she'd do anything for him... so she jumps at Bow and sends them falling off the cliff, forcing Glimmer to teleport to rescue them.

Catra: "Oh, hey princess!"
Glimmer: "How are you such a nightmare?"
Catra: "Ah. Years of practice."
Bow: "Can you please discuss this when we're not hurtling to our death?"
Glimmer: "You know what? I'm ready to see if cats really do land on their feet."
Bow: "Please don't do that! She is attached to me!"

So Glimmer teleports them down, into a river. Catra's not a fan, and Bow notes thay're heading for a waterfall. They teleport to shore, and Catra makes another mention of Entrapta. Glimmer tries blasting her, but is out of magic, so they continue walking. Catra, continuing her trolling career, licks Glimmer's arm. She shakes Catra away, and she drops to the ground, subtly tapping her badge to send a signal to a worried Scorpia, who immediately sets out to recover her.

Adora and Swift Wind try to figure out how to put the Watchtower back together. Adora tries using her sword like when she repaired the Sea Gate, but that doesn't work. Swift Wind goes off to do more loop-de-loops, and Adora tries physically pulling the chunks together with her sword transformed to a lasso. It goes... poorly.

Not pictured: The floating chunk actually physically pulling Adora instead

Meanwhile, Glimmer is pulling Catra, who continues her trolling with references to Entrapta and being completely uncooperative in their attempts to move her. While none of them notice it, Glimmer gets Catra to drop her facade for just a second—by suggesting that Adora ran away from her. Catra retorts by suggesting Adora will leave them behind too. Glimmer gets in her face, but before she can do anything, Scorpia, Lonnie, and Rogelio arrives. Glimmer suggests a trade: They'll release Catra, if the Horde releases Entrapta. Catra has another offer: They let her go, or they finish Entrapta off. Glimmer thinks she's bluffing, so Catra has Scorpia call Kyle. Entrapta's still screaming in the background, trying to deal with her robot. Catra tells Kyle that if he doesn't hear from them in thirty seconds... take Entrapta out. Glimmer prepares to give Catra a magic beatdown, but Bow stops her, saying they can't take the chance about Entrapta. So Glimmer lets go and Catra returns to her team.

Catra: "Hah! Wow. I didn't think you'd actually buy that."
Glimmer: "We held up our end of the bargain. Now show us that Entrapta's alive!"

Catra tells them they're so easy to manipulate, and contacts Kyle again. But Kyle's busy being manhandled by Entrapta's robot, so Entrapta answers herself, finally getting the situation under control. Catra shows Glimmer and Bow the screen, and Entrapta greets them. The only way I can make the following exchange justice is to quote it verbatim.

Hello to you too, Entrapta

Entrapta: "Hi, Bow, what are you doing there?"
Glimmer: "Just hang on, Entrapta, we're going to rescue you."
Entrapta: "Oh, good! ...rescue me from what?"
Glimmer: "From the Horde!"
Entrapta: "Oh! Well, that's nice of you, but all of my stuff is here now, so probably I'll just stay. Thanks anyway, though."
Bow: "Entrapta... are you... on the Horde's side now?"
Entrapta: "I'm on the side of science! Buuut, I am living at the Fright Zone now, and the Horde is supplying me with tools and materials for my work, so... yes, I guess?"
Catra: "Did I forget to mention that? Haha. Oops!"
Entrapta: "But don't worry about me. I love it here. I've made unbelievable progress in my research, and the Horde has been so supportive. I'm getting closer every day to unraveling the mysteries of Etheria. Hacking the Black Garnet was just the first step."
Bow: "That was you?"

Adora admits she has absolutely no idea what to do, but she has to be a better She-Ra than Mara, so she needs to fix Light Hope so she can learn how to control her powers. Swift Wind apologizes for not taking the mission seriously, and Adora apologizes for having dragged Swift Wind into everything by zapping him. He enjoys what he's become, though, and they hug...

...and Glimmer's trying to punch Catra. Scorpia whacks her, then Catra grabs Bow and tells Scorpia to attack. Glimmer teleports to Bow and gets him away—causing Scorpia to hit Catra instead, much to her horror.

Swift Wind's horn starts glowing, signifying that he and Adora have bonded. Looking up, they see a glowing octahedron—the core of the Watchtower. Adora transforms, and they fly up to it. When Adora touches the sword to it, a surge of energy goes through all the floating chunks, and they start reassembling. The tower is rebuilt, and Light Hope goes back to normal.

Back in Bright Moon, Glimmer and Bow are still devastated over the reveal about Entrapta, even if they know she's still alive. Adora walks in triumphantly, but notes the bad mood of her friends.

Adora: "What happened to you?"
Glimmer: "Oh, Adora, we've got a lot to catch you up on."

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Entrapta follows orders.

The Saga

Season 2, Episode 3: Signals

Last time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Glimmer and Bow (and by extension, the whole Rebellion) learned that Entrapta's working for the Horde now. They did not take it well!

Hordak's working on some kind of green glowy orb in his lab... but the machine explodes and he calls it useless before the intro theme plays.

We then join Adora, Glimmer, and Bow who are walking through the woods, discussing Entrapta. Adora's sure that Shadow Weaver messed with her mind, but Glimmer notes she seemed normal ("Entrapta-normal, but still!"). Glimmer admits that the Horde has better tech, but the Rebellion has magic! Bow replies that those aren't completely separate, and that Entrapta was one of the few to understand that. Bow tries reassuring them by noting that he's a techmaster, then Swift Wind flies in saying he's found an outpost. Glimmer explains their mission, they lost all contact with a farming outpost a week ago and are here to handle it. The way they always do.

Adora: "Brute strength?"
Swift Wind: "Almost dying?"
Glimmer: "No! And... no! By sticking together and never giving up!"
Bow: "Yeah! Best Friend Quad to the rescue! ...because there's four of us?

Same

Bow: "...okay, taking that one off the list."

In the Fright Zone, Entrapta's working on something but is annoyed by her desk being unstable. She asks Emily for a six-sided hex driver, but none is found. Meanwhile, Catra enters Hordak's throne room, who wonders why she's there. She suggests they establish a daily rapport, but Hordak just sees her as a disturbance. She tries arguing her case, but Hordak activates a device that makes it hard for Catra to breathe. He's not impressed with Catra's latest lack of success, while Catra says she hasn't failed yet and she knows best how to take the princesses down. Hordak tells her to prove it.

Swift Wind senses something weird as they get closer to Alwyn, the rebellion's biggest supplier of... well, supplies. Normally it's a happy place, but they find it's now a ghost town. Bow tries his tracker pad, but it just delivers noise. Glimmer says there were stories about Alwyn being haunted, which reminds Adora of Shadow Weaver telling her the story of the Weeping Princess. Swift Wind thought he heard a voice, and we see something rather ghost-like in the forest...

Catra is planning to send the third battalion to Erlandia. Scorpia notes the third battalion is refusing to fight because they don't have armour, despite requests for resupplies, and the Armory's out of armour. Catra thinks Shadow Weaver didn't have to deal with all the busywork, but all the files about it are her old files. Then Entrapta literally drops in from the vent, which she still uses because it's faster. She's still looking for a hex driver, and notes she saw one in Hordak's lab. Catra stops her, warning her about Hordak and forbidding her from going near his sanctum.

Entrapta: "Ooh. He calls his lab a sanctum. Oh, that is so classy!"
Catra: "Focus!"

Yeah good luck with that, Catra

Catra makes Entrapta promise to stay away from Hordak, Scorpia figures out that the Armory is out of the material they need to make armour but has no info on where to get it, and Catra tells her to keep an eye on Entrapta... who is, of course, already gone.

The Best Friend Squad aren't finding much. The houses are empty, and the people fled in a hurry a while ago, with no signs of any struggle. Adora's reminded of the story about the Headless Princess, who abducts people at night. Bow points out a structure in the middle of the village before they're startled by a window rattling in the wind. Adora thinks the place is weird, like the lair of the Undead Princess.

Bow: "The Horde really had a theme, huh?"
Adora: "Oh. You're right. Wow, I can't believe I'm just realizing this now."

Entrapta ponders ethical dilemma #63, in front of the doors to Hordak's lab. She told Catra she wouldn't go there, but does it count if she never finds out? To nobody's surprise, we cut to Entrapta inside Hordak's lab, spotting the tool she needs. She spots Hordak's sparking green orb, which again fails, making Hordak mad. Entrapta is of the opinion that failure is just a part of the scientific process, and nothing to get mad about. Grabbing the hex driver, she starts leaving, but decides to stay.

Entrapta: "For science!"

Power to the people robots

In Alwyn, everyone's started hearing the weird sounds, and Adora spots one of the ghost-like things. She transforms and goes after it.

Entrapta's tinkering with Hordak's machine, when he walks in behind her. He yells at her to get out, but she puts the last touches on it before Emily pushes her out. Not taking any note of Hordak's wrath, she explains she replaced the cables and the machine should hold the charge now.

Hordak: "She was... right."
Entrapta: "Of course I was right!"

There is not a single Entrapta moment in this episode that I do not love, but this is definitely the best

Entrapta identifies the orb as a power source, and wonders what needs so much power. Looking at Hordak's research, she concludes he's experimenting with portals, something nobody's come close to making work before. Hordak just doesn't think someone from a backwater planet would understand, but Entrapta counters with that she's the one who got his machine working.

I could have taken so many more Entrapta shots for this episode

Hordak explains that portals aren't just theoretical and that he's going to open one, and Entrapta really wants to help, thinking about transporting things from one side of the planet to the other. Hordak points out she's thinking too small... and Entrapta realizes the implication that there's other planets out there, which Hordak confirms...

Catra, meanwhile, has gone to Shadow Weaver's cell to find out how to get the material for the armour. She calmly informs Catra that the material is produced in the Fright Zone's own foundry. As Catra's leaving, Shadow Weaver asks if being her was really what she thought it'd be like, and that Hordak will never really trust her. Catra disagrees and leaves.

The Best Friend Squad starts seeing more of the ghostly figures, and they're all scared. Swift Wind mentions that he's hearing the noises from the pointy thing, which gives Bow an idea. He realizes it's a First Ones ruin, and the ghosts aren't ghosts... they're holograms, running in a loop... because it's a recording.

On her way back, Catra runs into Scorpia who has also figured out that the material for the armour comes from the Foundry... but has lost track of Entrapta. They rush to Hordak's lab, where they find Entrapta and Hordak working on the power source (that Entrapta points out could be even stronger with some First Ones tech). Hordak's annoyed at Catra's intrusion, because he's working... with Entrapta's assistance.

Entrapta: "Did you hear that, Emily? I've never had a lab partner before!"

She is just adorable

Bow has figured out the pointy structure is an antenna, and must have powered up when the Black Garnet disrupted the planet, and is now trying to send old stored messages. Looking at the holograms, Adora realizes she's been thinking of the First Ones as some kind of big, epic figures, but... they're just people. People whose messages never reached their goal because of what Mara did. They disable the antenna, so the holograms disappear. Bow sees a weird message on his tracker pad, looking like First Ones writing, but too degraded for Adora to read.

We then get a shot of a spaceship crashed in a desert, and a panel inside of it is displaying what looks to be the non-degraded version of the message...

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Bow dies.

The Saga

Season 2, Episode 4: Roll With It

Last time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the Best Friend Squad... did something unimportant that's never going to come up again. More importantly, Entrapta and Hordak struck up an odd friendship!

A valley. A fortress under Horde control. Adora (as She-Ra), Glimmer, and Bow have climbed to the outer wall. Adora asks how they're gonna pull off retaking the fortress. Glimmer will teleport ahead to scout. Bow plans to attack the turrets with his trick arrows. They attack... and Bow is shot by a cannon, falling into the canyon.

Adora: "He's... dead!"

Oh

Bow: "Oh, what? Tiny Bow, you will be avenged!"

Bow death count: 1

Adora the GM! Also I'll just go ahead and say right now that this recap is going to be a doozy—a bit longer and way more image-heavy than normal and if you know the episode you know exactly why I had no other choice

Adora: "That clearly isn't going to work. Let's try this again."

(cue the theme song.)

So, in the Rebellion's camp on the other side of the canyon, the trio are using Bow's figurines to plan their attack. Glimmer mentions that Bow failed to make a successful observation check, just in case you thought this was really anything other than a D&D session. The Horde captured the fortress while the Rebellion was defending Bright Moon, and Adora has concluded that their plans always fall apart.

Adora: "It'd be impressive if it wasn't terrifying."
Glimmer: "We have gotten really good at improvising, though."

But Adora really wants to come up with a plan that works, because the fortress is going to be guarded by the Horde's best and brightest...

...or, y'know, Scorpia, who Catra left in charge of it, because "even you can't mess this up", she said. Lonnie, Rogelio, and Kyle are also there, and Kyle's being bossed around as usual. Scorpia thinks about getting a thank you gift for Catra.

Lonnie: "We should spend less time talking about Catra, and more time checking the defenses!"
Scorpia:
Lonnie: "The reason we're here!"

Scorpia declares she'll defend the pass with her life... and Lonnie points out she's facing the wrong way.

The Horde's best and brightest, it was.

Adora ponders another plan, but Glimmer grabs the DM screen from her... because she's got her own ideas.

Here we go

Picturing herself as the heroine of an action noir spy anime, Glimmer describes how she'll use her awesome power of teleportation to take out their defenses, soldiers, and robots, and make some awesome moves and teleports and

Bow: "You ran out of teleports like twelve teleports ago."
Glimmer: "Then I land on you! Waaaa!"

Bow death count: 2

Adora is... not impressed with Glimmer's plan because it's completely unrealistic. But Adora does see merit in using teleports, and suggests that Glimmer takes Bow to a blind spot to act as backup while Glimmer and Adora make it to a less patrolled area.

Attack on Titan (2013)

Mermista: "Uuuuh, why are you playing with dolls?"
Adora: "We're not playing with dolls!"
Bow: "Yeah! They're war table battle figures, and I don't know if I have one for you. Hold on."

Bow suggests a seashell or a happy otter for Mermista, who refuses and grabs the She-Ra figure. Adora protests, but Glimmer just teleports Mermista out and gets the figure back.

Mermista: "Uh, wow, rude much?"

Glimmer admits to getting carried away, and Adora adds she didn't take the biggest variable into account—Catra. Glimmer says she does, and back in her fantasy, Catra has been lured out.

Not pictured: This Catra meowing

Adora: "This is how you see Catra?"

So, yeah, in Glimmer's mind, Catra's this suave James Bond villain. And this is just two episodes after Glimmer experienced actual Catra first-hand. Fantasy Catra explains her plan, Adora reacts appropriately (Adora facepalm count: 1), and-

Perfuma: "I cast Giant Flytrap on Catra!"

Catra dodges. So does Glimmer and Adora. So, naturally...

Bow death count: 3

Perfuma, Mermista, and Frosta have entered the tent, wanting to join the battle game. Adora allows them to sit in on the planning, but only if they're serious about it.

Scorpia's giving orders to a little spy bot, which derails into more talking about Catra. Lonnie points out that a) it's not turned on, and b) it doesn't work like that. Scorpia very unsuccessfully tries to claim she was testing them. Lonnie hands her the remote, Scorpia coos over how cute the bot is, Lonnie subtly implies that they should get on with it, and Scorpia has issues handling the remote with her claws.

Lonnie: "Do you want me to drive the spy bot?"
Scorpia: "Yes please!"

Bow: "Okay, everyone has a figure, except Perfuma who's using her plant, and Mermista who has... that, for some reason."
Mermista: "Says the guy with a bag of dolls."
Bow: "They're war table battle figures!"

Adora tries to start, but this time it's Bow who grabs the DM screen, being tired of dying. So he declares that his plan will have no death, no dying, just heroic good times!

They're all dressed in the outfits of their 1980s She-Ra: Princess of Power counterparts, if that wasn't obvious. Also, the original theme from that show plays during Bow's fantasy!

Perfuma: "Ooh! We all get hats!"
Mermista: "Ugh."
Bow: "After I destroy the turrets with my trick arrows, Glimmer teleports us to the tower. There, someone waits in the shadows... Catra."

There was no way I was not gonna show this too

Catra: "Fools. I won't let you destroy my purrfect plan!"
Adora: "What?"
Glimmer, chuckling: "This is kind of amazing."
Bow and Catra: <several bad cat puns>
Adora: "Ugh, stop. You gotta stop." (Adora facepalm count: 2)
Mermista: "Mmm, now we're all hoping this plan kills us."

Catra pulls down her mask, and transforms into a cat... because Bow didn't have enough figures, so all he had left for Catra was a cat. (Adora is not amused.) Also, the Horde has dragons, because he didn't have enough robots. (Perfuma, however, is :allears:) Fantasy Bow fires a net arrow at the transformed Catra, who dodges, causing the arrow to ricochet around the room until it hits...

Bow death count: 4 (okay getting caught by the net probably didn't kill him directly but I'm counting it anyway)

Swiftly moving on, Adora thinks they can exploit a weakness in the wall... and Perfuma wants to go next, suggesting making a plant golem to take down the tower. Adora states they're not just making up what they want (Adora facepalm count: 3) and Mermista thinks her idea is dumb. So what would Mermista do?

Mermista: "Uh... I step forward, and I say... I am Mermista! Fabulous secrets were revealed to me the day I held aloft my trident and said 'For the honour of Gray Whales!'"

I AM TRYING TO KEEP THE IMAGE COUNT DOWN OKAY

Mermista: "Then it's like, sparkle, sparkle, dolphin, sparkle."
Adora, seething: "Mermista..."
Mermista: "I get shoes that are slightly better than my normal shoes, there's probably another dolphin..."
Adora, shouting: "Mermista!"
Mermista: "So then, like, I twirl, and then my hair does this thing where it looks all messy, but it's actually, like, really super beautiful."
Adora, past her breaking point: "You can't transform into She-Ra!"
Mermista: "Uh, duh, I'm Sea-Ra, Princess of the Oceans, obviously."
Perfuma: "No. If she gets to be Sea-Ra, I get to have a plant golem."
Frosta: "The Winter's Bane needs no help from a plant."
Adora: "The what?"

...so yeah Frosta's got this edgy ice-themed character who has a +3 strength obsidian broadsword and... Glimmer as a sidekick. She even brought a character sheet.

Adora: "We're getting so far from the real plan..."

The whole thing devolves into arguing, which is when the Horde spy bot shows up. The princesses talk about their fantasy solutions, and... Scorpia doesn't get that it's not real. Lonnie figures out what's going on, and while Scorpia tries to grab the remote, Mermista opens a bottle and spills some of its contents on the spy bot, breaking it. Kyle is told to bring another spy bot... but he didn't bring any. Meanwhile, Adora keeps shooting down suggestions, also bringing up that they're not taking Catra into account.

Perfuma: "Oh, sure we are! See?"

She-Ra: Into the Catra-verse

Glimmer just wants to attack, since they've been planning for hours. Adora wants a perfect plan, and paints a worst case scenario in which everyone is defeated and the Horde wins the war and Etheria crumbles and it's all Adora's fault!

Bow death count: 5

In her rant, Adora pretty much reveals the whole thing is rooted in that she worries that she's not good enough. Glimmer points out that she was kidnapped, and lost her powers, but they won anyway.

Glimmer: "Bad things are going to happen. That's life. You can let it paralyze you, or you can roll with it."

Everyone reassures Adora, including Perfuma casting friendship and support on her next turn and Frosta not being sure if they're still in character or not. Adora decides that they're gonna do what they do best... improvise.

And so the attack on the fortress finally commences. Lonnie has made sure their defenses are solid, and reassures Scorpia that none of the stuff the Princesses were talking about was real... when big green hands grab onto the wall, and Perfuma appears actually riding a plant golem. Frosta's made herself some ice gear, and Mermista has cobbled together a Sea-Ra costume (which inexplicably disappears for the rest of the episode). Lonnie is thoroughly confused as they actually manage to take out a whole lot of the defenses, while Adora goes looking for Catra... and runs into Scorpia instead, who reveals Catra's not even there.

Adora: "Catra's really not here? And she left you in charge?"
Scorpia: "Yes! Why do people keep acting surprised about that?"

Well, up until now, this episode has probably made you wonder how Scorpia even is a Force Captain. And now it also gives you the answer: She can go one-on-one with She-Ra, relying on her strength (well, and tail) alone, and win, disarming her after only a short struggle. Even when Glimmer jumps in to assist Adora, Scorpia maintains the upper hand. Or the upper tail, as the case may be, since that's the only thing she uses to knock down Glimmer before dangling her over the edge. But, then Mermista, Perfuma, Frosta, and Bow appear, leaving Scorpia vastly outnumbered and thrown into the river below, securing the victory for the Rebellion.

Scorpia: "All in favour of blaming this on Kyle?"
Lonnie: "Oh, yeah."
Rogelio: <mumble-growl>
Scorpia: "Yep. Yeah, that unanimous."
Kyle: "Oh, man..."

...and over the closing credits, the credits theme from the 1980s She-Ra: Princess of Power plays!

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Adora gets along with Scorpia.

The Saga

Intermission #3: Song of the Sea Witch

Yep, time for another one of these, and it's another book! Specifically, it's the fourth SPoP book. "What about the third?" you might ask. Don't worry, we'll be getting to that one later, where it better fits the timeline. So anyway, just like the first two books, this one was written by Tracey West and published by Scholastic, and was released in November of 2019. Specifically, it was released on November 5th 2019, which was the exact same day that season 4 of the show dropped on Netflix. But looking at it chronologically, we're at the perfect time for it, since it starts right after Roll With It. Not even just "between episodes four and five", but later that very day.

I like this one better than the last one, but I'm biased towards Mermista and this one's got some quality Mermista.

So here we go.

Chapter 1: A Mysterious Message
We start in Bright Moon, with the Best Friend Squad talking about the battle that just took place. Bow's painting Warhammer figures because now all the princesses wanted their own custom ones. He has some problems getting Mermista's hair colour right, but figures it out.

Glimmer: "Yeah, that's good. You've managed to capture that 'I don't care' look on her face just right."
Adora: "Mermista does care. She just doesn't want anyone to know that she does."

Adora thinks about how it had taken some time for her to understand Mermista, then they go to give Angella a report about the battle. They don't get far before a messenger from Salineas arrives, bringing a message from a Queen Calypsa, who's apparently the new ruler of Salineas and who hasn't decided if she's gonna support the Rebellion or the Horde. The messenger won't answer any questions, but confirms that Mermista's alive, at least. Calypsa wants Angella to meet her in Salineas, but the Best Friend Squad is sent there instead.

Chapter 2: A Surprise in Salineas
They go to Seaworthy to find Sea Hawk, but learn he's not been there for days. Instead, they find a woman named Liana who's going to Salineas and brings them along. As opposed to Sea Hawk, she doesn't mess around or sing shanties. She then promptly disappears from the book entirely. They get to Salineas, and two guards wait for them, saying they still serve the princess in their hearts but must obey Queen Calypsa, and that Mermista's life will be in danger if they say too much. They take them to the palace, and on the way find that the Sea Gate is open, on Calypsa's orders because she's awaiting guests from the Horde too. They get to the throne room, where they see Calypsa, a woman with pale green skin and fins sprouting from her neck.

Someone's enjoying this a little too much

Mermista's embarrassed and starts saying Calypsa tricked her, but Calypsa silences her, a ring on her finger and an amulet around Mermista's neck glowing as she gives the command. The Best Friend Squad prepares to attack, which Calypsa responds to by singing a song that puts them to sleep.

Chapter 3: Catra's Plan
Catra's mad at Scorpia for screwing up defending the fortress. Scorpia argues she was outnumbered, but Catra says she wasn't that outnumbered, since it was four against six (completely ignoring all the other Horde soldiers there).

Scorpia: "Well, Kyle doesn't really count, does he?"

Catra's not sure she can trust Scorpia, who very much says that she can, and Catra admits that Scorpia's not perfect but all that she's got right now. So they're going on a mission to Salineas, since Calypsa has asked for an audience with the Horde too. But Catra's not going to negotiate, she's bringing soldiers to take Salineas since the Sea Gate is left open.

Somebody's rethinking a few life choices

Chapter 4: Captured!
The Best Friend Squad wake up to find themselves trapped in a bubble without their weapons (despite this, and despite the fact that Calypsa interrupted her before she could transform, Adora's shown as She-Ra in the illustration for this and the following chapters...). Calypsa and Mermista are there, and they conclude Calypsa's a sorceress. She says she never wanted join the Rebellion, but wants to destroy the princesses, because they destroyed her kingdom. So she's going to join Hordak. Mermista tries tipping Adora off to something that involves the floor. Glimmer kind of easily manages to blast the bubble open, and they find a trail of scales from Calypsa's dress on the ground. But the trail stops when the tunnel forks, and after taking one path, they reach a room with ten more tunnels. While trying to decide where to go, they hear a familiar voice singing about also being stuck in a bubble.

Chapter 5: The Story of the Sea Sorceress
They follow Sea Hawk's voice through the tunnels, finding him also in a bubble that Glimmer pops open. Sea Hawk confirms that the ring Calypsa wears allows her to control Mermista via the amulet she's wearing, and reveals that she can also turn Mermista into a puddle of water with the right command. Sea Hawk had heard a song when out sailing several days ago, and followed it, only to have been put to sleep and imprisoned in the bubble. Calypsa had then told Mermista that Sea Hawk was in trouble, put her to sleep as well, and put the amulet on her. Sea Hawk actually knows the way out by having listened to the pattern of Calypsa and Mermista's footsteps when they've come by to give him rations. They get to a large room with remnants of an old kingdom, that Sea Hawk explains was Corala, Calypsa's old kingdom that was attacked by the princesses and their laser cannons. Adora recalls the name Corala from cadet history classes as one of Hordak's great triumphs, but a mural on the wall shows Bright Moon symbols on attacking vehicles. The survivors of Corala sought refuge all over the planet, and Calypsa, just a young girl at the time, ended up alone on an island and trained herself in magic while planning revenge on the princesses, and began rebuilding Corala when she was strong enough. Glimmer wishes she had ended up Mystacor, and Adora knows what it's like to have your whole life based on a lie. They get to a room with a bubble that takes them up to the surface, and as they float along towards Salineas, a sea monster emerges!

So, as we're now halfway through the book, let's pause for a moment here to ponder the timeline of this story. The book absolutely takes place later during day Roll With It happened (because the way they talk about it in the first chapter makes absolutely no sense if it's not immediately after the battle), and Mermista was there, clearly not controlled by someone else. The messenger from Salineas shows up during the report about the battle, so Calypsa's already taken control and made her orders. Sea Hawk having been captured before the episode is no issue, but... when did Calypsa get control of Mermista? Calypsa can't have taken control of Salineas before getting Mermista, so the only possible time for Calypsa to have approached Mermista about Sea Hawk is immediately after Roll With It. The planning session was said to have taken several hours, but given the sun, it was still mid-day at the latest when the battle happened, so they have to have started planning in the morning. Calypsa only had a few hours, at most, to do everything in Salineas. Calypsa and Mermista also returned to give Sea Hawk rations "several times", according to the book, and it's sunny when they reach the surface in the bubble. Catra and the Horde also hasn't shown up in Salineas yet and from The Sea Gate, we know that traveling to Salineas from The Fright Zone can be done within a single day. And looking at chapter three, Catra learned about the new Salinean queen before discussing the battle with Scorpia.

The only way I can make sense of some of this is that the Best Friend Squad was left unconscious overnight, so chapter four starts in the morning of the next day, and that Catra, for once in her life, didn't rush something but waited until the next day before heading out. Still doesn't answer where Calypsa really found the time to trick Mermista and take over Salineas, and also dispatch messengers to Bright Moon and the Fright Zone, and for it to still be the same day as Roll With It when the Best Friend Squad reach Salineas. The only explanation for Sea Hawk having heard the footsteps enough to learn the exact path is that Calypsa brought him rations alone for the days he spent captured before she took over Salineas, since them both coming to do it can't really have happened more than twice to make the timeline work in any reasonable way.

And I've now officially put more thought into this aspect of the book than the author did. So let's move on.

Chapter 6: Monster Trouble
The sea monster is familiar—it's the same one they encountered on their last trip to Salineas. While they're safe inside the bubble, they have no way to fight back, but Glimmer can teleport them out if they get close to shore. Sea Hawk sings a shanty, and suddenly a giant octopus appears, which turns out to be a friend of Sea Hawk's. It takes care of the monster, and they reach the shore. Adora sees no sign of the Horde, and wants to explain what really happened to Calypsa. Sea Hawk points out that she'll just sing them to sleep again, but Glimmer has an idea...

Chapter 7: The Sound of Victory
They find where their weapons are kept, and Glimmer teleports in to grab them, but trips an alarm in the process. Bow traps some guards in a net, and when faced with some more resistance, Adora transforms and throws them out of the way. They barge into the throne room, and as Calypsa's about to start her song, Sea Hawk uses a conch shell as a megaphone and drowns her out with his own singing. Bow traps Calypsa in a net, and Glimmer gets the amulet off Mermista, who tackles Calypsa and gets the ring for herself before Glimmer puts the amulet on Calypsa.

She mad

With Mermista in control now, she shuts Calypsa up and remembers there was a command to turn the wearer of the amulet into a puddle of water...

Mermista: "Yeah, that sounds like it might be fun."

Chapter 8: What Did We Forget...?
...but Adora is a major buzzkill and stops Mermista from just straight up murdering Calypsa.

Mermista: "You are no fun." (yes, that's actually in there.)

Makes you wonder what other war crimes Mermista's gotten up to while the other princesses weren't looking

Mermista knows Calypsa was tricked, but still wants to punish her somehow. Glimmer wants to take her to Mystacor so she can get actual training, and Mermista just wants her far away from Salineas, and says she feels like a failure for being tricked. Bow says he feels like they've forgotten something, when an explosion rocks the palace.

Chapter 9: Hey, Adora!
The Horde's started their attack. Mermista stays back to keep Calypsa under control, as the others head out and start attacking the Horde robots and soldiers, but Glimmer's out of power. Catra and Scorpia rides in on a large robot with two giant legs and a spinning laser wheel. Catra calls for Adora.

Scorpia: "Shouldn't you call her She-Ra when she's in her princess form? I mean, it's kind of confusing, right?"
Catra: "She'll always be Adora to me."

Adora charges at the robot, and as Catra takes aim, a wave of water comes out of the castle and knocked it down, followed by Mermista. Adora jumps on top of the bot and opens the cockpit, tossing Scorpia out, who Mermista lifts into the air with a water geyser. Adora points her sword at Catra, who lunges at her and gets a hit in with a stun baton. Adora has a moment of hesitation about fighting Catra, still having hope that she'll come around to the side of good. Catra dodges and kicks the back of Adora's knees, and Adora responds in kind with a roundhouse kick to Catra's ankles, bringing her to her knees.

Same energy

Adora thinks they've won, but Catra points out that she's not the one with the upper hand. Looking around, Adora finds that Bow's surrounded, Scorpia's holding Sea Hawl, and Mermista and Glimmer aren't anywhere to be seen, as more soldiers come marching in.

Catra: "Drop the sword, Adora. You've lost!"

Chapter 10: Trust
Mermista comes running, telling Adora to not do it, and she's got Calypsa and Glimmer (pointing a trident at Calypsa's back) with her. She tells them to cover their ears, which they do as she commands Calypsa to sing a song that makes the Horde get back on their ships and leave. Calypsa protests, since she would never willingly help the princesses. Mermista goes to close the Sea Gate as Adora explains the truth to Calypsa. That the Horde was the ones who attacked Corala, using the symbol of Bright Moon. How that, just like how it was for Adora, everything Calypsa had knwon was a lie and the Horde is the real evil. To demonstrate that you need to trust each other, she removes the amulet from Calypsa's neck. She explains that Calypsa can go to Mystacor to live with other sorcerers, and Calypsa thinks she might find answers there, so she agrees. Mermista's disappointed that she doesn't get to imprison Calypsa forever, but she does have Sea Hawk take Calypsa to Mystacor, enjoying that she'll have to deal with Sea Hawk's singing on the way. And that was the last anyone ever heard of Calypsa! Mermista then tosses the ring and amulet into the ocean because they're too dangerous for anyone to have. She thanks her friends, and Adora says that they've all been vulnerable, but now they have each other.

Mermista:  "Now you're just getting mushy. Why don't you take one of my boats and get out of here?"
Adora: "I love you too, Mermista."

...and so they head out, with some final musings about friendship and how there's more monsters and Horde ships out there but that whatever happens, they'll be okay.

The end!

So implausible timeline aside, I kinda enjoy this book. But again, Mermista's my third favourite character overall and this book really nailed her, in my opinion.

In the next intermission, adventures!

...okay, and I wasn't gonna include this at first, but I just had to show off this hilariously off-model She-Ra. Like, that face. Plus, She-Ra being there at all is just wrong, because Adora wasn't transformed at the time.

The Saga

Season 2, Episode 5: White Out

Last time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the Princess Alliance recaptured a fortress after writing some self-insert fanfiction. The events of that episode are never going to be addressed again.

We open in a very snowy location, where a Horde outpost has been set up next to a large hole in the ground. Inside, Entrapta's working, while Catra's annoyed that she's taking so long and clearly bothered by the cold. According to Entrapta, there's some really powerful First Ones tech deep under the ice, but at the very least they'll be getting data.

Catra: "I'm not here freezing my tail off for data."

We then see a giant monster with a slug-like body, four insect-like legs and a very large mouth slithering into the hole before the intro...

Word of the Horde activity in the region (identified as the Northern Reach) has reached the Rebellion, so Sea Hawk is bringing the Best Friend Squad there on his boat, the Dragon's Daughter V (termites took IV). Mermista cancelled her plans with Sea Hawk to hang out with her other friends, so he had nothing to do anyway.

A blushing Scorpia is mentally preparing herself to go talk to Catra (who's looking for a space heater), wanting to become closer to her. Scorpia nervously asks if Catra wants to hang out some time, you know, outside of work. For some bonding. While talking, she leans against a stack of boxes, one of which tips over and out falls...

On the one hand, this does not bode well, but on the other hand, it definitely does

Entrapta: "Aaaaah, careful with that! It's a rare First Ones artifact! I've been meaning to study it but I haven't gotten the chance yet. The last time I deployed it it ended up infecting all of my robots with some kind of... murder-virus."
Catra: "You brought along a murder-virus and not a blanket?"
Entrapta: "Oh, it does other things too! For example, when it infected She-Ra, she lost her powers. Also, she got very floppy."
Catra: "A She-Ra off switch, huh? Why didn't you say something sooner?"

Scorpia tries rerailing the conversation to hanging out, but an alarm sounds, and apparently their drilling bots have gone offline. All of them. At once. So the Super Pal Trio heads out to investigate.

The Best Friend Squad, plus Sea Hawk, are hiking through the snow. Sea Hawk talks about how Mermista never invites him to hang out with her other friends. Adora thinks there's something else out here too, and Sea Hawk mentions stories about strange happenings in the Northern Reach... and then asks if he's cool. Bow's tracker pad's still on the fritz since the communication hub messed with it, but managed to pick up a signal for them to follow, looking like First Ones tech.

On the bridge over the hole, Catra demands results from Entrapta, when Adora & company shows up. Adora chases Catra, while Scorpia (muttering about that this was not how the night was supposed to go) attacks Sea Hawk (who asks her if she thinks he's cool). Glimmer hits her with some sparkles, so Scorpia tosses her into the hole. She sees some monsters before teleporting out. Bow chases after Entrapta, trying to talk her out of whatever she's doing. It goes about as well as you'd expect from trying to talk Entrapta out of anything. Catra dodges some of Adora's attacks before she turns the sword into a lasso and trips her, but while Adora has her at swordpoint, Catra pulls out the First Ones artifact and touches the sword with it. It quickly infects it, giving Adora a headache.

Insert Jojo reference here

She-Ra goes absolutely loving berserk, attacking anyone and anything within range. While Catra thought she'd be powerless, she does enjoy seeing Adora attacking her friends. Bow traps her in a net arrow, but she quickly breaks out. She loses sight of them when a strike causes the ground to collapse, and immediately goes for Catra again. Only this time, the part of Adora that always stops before seriously injuring or killing Catra is no longer functioning. But while lining up a finishing strike, Scorpia tackles her, causing her to drop the sword and revert to just Adora.

Catra: "Looks like you're mine now, Adora."

(subtle.)

Bow, Glimmer, and Sea Hawk climb out of the rubble. Glimmer explains what went on with the disc, and she's out of power.

Catra gloats over an unconscious Adora, and wants to bring her back to the Horde since they can make She-Ra go berserk as long as they have the infected sword and use her as a weapon. Entrapta's still looking for the tech, but Catra wants to pack up and go home... when an alarm sounds. Catra goes to check and tasks Scorpia with watching Adora.

Scorpia: "Oh! Yeah. Yeah! I will absolutely look after this sleeping, non-moving person! Uuh..."
Entrapta: "She went that way!"

Sea Hawk's still arguing that he's cool, being a pirate and all. Right before falling from the cliff they're climbing having to be rescued by Bow and singing a sad rendition of his theme song while being hauled up.

Scorpia's not happy either, having wanted to spend time with Catra but instead being stuck babysitting her ex-best friend. Adora, back in Drunk mode, swings a mop at Scorpia and calls her a big bug before mostly passing out. Scorpia drags her out, trying to remember the code for the door, and Adora starts poking at the keyboard (while vocalizing "boop" for every keypress). She does manage to open the door... by inputting Catra's favourite number. Scorpia starts venting, when the part of the building that was on the other side of the door is destroyed. Adora heads out to catch snowflakes on her tongue. Scorpia throws her back inside.

Don't worry, there'll be a gallery of A Lot of Drunk Adora screens at the end

Adora: "Yaay, it's girl's night in!"

Meanwhile, Glimmer, Bow, and Sea Hawk has reached the Horde camp again, and spotted the monster. Scorpia's grumbling over being stuck in a closet with Adora, when Sea Hawk enters to rescue her.

Adora: "Uh... more like, I'm here to rescue you."
Sea Hawk: "That doesn't make any sense. Is she all right?"
Scorpia: "I don't know, but she is getting on my last nerve."

Scorpia won't let Adora go, and while Sea Hawk's trying to pull her away, she grabs both their faces and calls them her best friends. (Drunk Adora: Conflict resolution master.) In the main part of the outpost, the power's starting to cut out, and Entrapta has found that drilling released the monsters. Glimmer and Bow are hiding from them, and Glimmer notices their eyes are red like She-Ra's, so they must be infected too. As a monster spots them, Glimmer manages one more teleport... right into the outpost, next to Catra.

This picture perfectly demonstrates Entrapta's and Catra's personalities

Adora's still being pulled between Scorpia and Sea Hawk. Literally. Scorpia mentions Catra, and Adora comments that she's mean. Scorpia argues she's just misunderstood, and Adora should know that, since they grew up together, something she feels like she can't compete with.

Scorpia: "But you two... even when you're trying to kill each other, you can tell there's a real bond there. I just... I wish she would see me as being worth her time, too."
Sea Hawk, teary-eyed: "I... I know how you feel."

Glimmer's mad at Catra while Bow tries talking to Entrapta, but all he manages to do is make her realize that the bug monsters are also First Ones tech, since they got infected by the virus, upon which she promptly forgets anything else Bow tried to tell her.

Also Bow hit her with an arrow that put her in that cylinder

Meanwhile, Scorpia and Sea Hawk are having a heart-to-heart about how their friends seem to not think too much of them, that the only time they want them around is when they need something. But they conclude, after some drunk compliments from Adora, that they're good people, and it doesn't matter what other people think. Scorpia states that she'll always be there for Catra, before they go to save their respective friends.

Glimmer tries to convince Catra to give up the disc, when one of the monsters break the wall. Scorpia, Sea Hawk, and a mop-wielding Adora run in, chasing it off. In the ensuing struggle, Adora sees the sword but is tackled by Scorpia, and Glimmer tries getting the disc from Catra. The monster attacks her, and she drops the disc. Scorpia picks it up, and after some prompting from Glimmer and Sea Hawk, snaps it in half, sadly meaning we'll never get to see Drunk Adora again.

Scorpia: "Sorry, wildcat. This is for your own good."

The monsters cease attacking and leave, Adora sobers up, and Scorpia scoops up Catra and Entrapta and runs off. On the ride back towards the Fright Zone, Catra says the mission was a failure, but Entrapta reveals that she had gotten the First Ones tech a while ago but didn't wat to say anything because they had so much fun. Catra sincerely thanks Scorpia for the rescue, and even invites her to share a blanket since she's freezing... and starts talking about things they can do while hanging out again.

You keep being you, Scorpia

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Shadow Weaver spends some quality time with Catra.

Bonus Drunk Adora gallery!

(and I could have easily taken, like, triple the amount of images that's in here but you'll just have to watch the episode for the rest)

The Saga

So due to a combination of work, Deltarune chapter 2, and my general incompetence, I don't have an update ready today. I'll try to get it done for Monday, but since the upcoming week is way more packed with work than usual for me, updates are going to come on a When They're Done basis until I have the time to sit down and just crank out a bunch so I've got them ready in advance.

In the meantime, please enjoy this fanart of Entrapta.

The Saga

Season 2, Episode 6: Light Spinner

Last time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Adora sobered up permanently. Also Entrapta found a big piece of First Ones tech to power her and Hordak's portal.

Mystacor. The camera pans over the statues of the sorcerers... and Light Spinner's statue is still in pristine condition. A bird made of magical light flies past and outside, where Light Spinner is giving a lesson about illusions. A black-haired boy casts his own, a goat, which headbutts the bird, making it shatter. Light Spinner walks up to him, and while he's looking at her, she re-casts her bird, this time much bigger, destroying the goat.

Light Spinner: "Impressive casting, Micah. But you allowed yourself to become distracted."

Yep—it's Glimmer's dad, back in the day. He praises Light Spinner, who tells him to apply himself instead. Micah tells her he wants to learn cooler spells than light illusions, but the guild doesn't allow third-years to learn what he's talking about. He conjures an illusion of a goat-headed man—Master Norwyn, another one of Mystacor's lead sorcerers. We're then shown Shadow Weaver in her cell, marking the days on the wall as Catra brings her a tray of food and drops it on the floor.

Oh.

After the opening, we see Hordak having his armour put on by way of mechanical arms. One of them hits him, causing him to lash out in pain, making a part fall to the floor. When he goes to pick it up, he appears to not have full motor control in his hands. Catra walks in, and seeing Hordak's state, quickly closes her eyes and kneels. He asks why Shadow Weaver still in the Fright Zone, since she's too dangerous to keep around and wants her sent to Beast Island, since she has knowledge about the Fright Zone that can't fall into the wrong hands. Catra protests that she's powerless and can still be useful... when the lights cut out. Entrapta descends from above, explaining they've integrated the tech they found in the Northern Reach into the portal mainframe...

Entrapta: "...but it maybe, slightly, completely overloaded the Fright Zone energy grid. So, we're gonna have to redesign that."

This gif didn't come out perfect but I had to get this

Hordak tells Catra she has two days to get any information from Shadow Weaver before sending her to Beast Island, then angrily dismisses the Force Captain... who's starting to realize she's playing second fiddle to Entrapta now.

When trying to reach for the food in her cell, Shadow Weaver reminisces about a time she showed Micah how to move objects with magic. She explains how while the princesses channel magic through their runestones, sorcerers can learn channel the power that's around them. She says that she trains those truly gifted, and Micah is one of the most talented students she's ever seen... but lacking in discipline. Micah wants to prove he has what it takes, so Light Spinner makes him help her collect crystals from the main hall (the same kind that Adora broke back in In the Shadows of Mystacor) and grind them down into a powder for magical applications. Micah demonstrates that he's got more power than Light Spinner thought, and she shows him images of what's happening in Etheria with the Horde's invasion. The princesses have failed to stop them, but Light Spinner's got a plan that can give the sorcerers the power they need to stop it—but doubts that Norwyn will understand.

Elsewhere in the Fright Zone, Scorpia has gone to find Catra hanging out on the railing outside.

Catra: "How'd you find me?"
Scorpia: "You always come out here when you're upset. Also, I looked everywhere else. Now,w hat's troubling my bestie?"
Catra: "I'm not your bestie, and I'm fine."
Scorpia: "Oh, I don't accept any of that."

Catra explains that Hordak is making her send Shadow Weaver to Beast Island, and Scorpia's amazed that Beast Island is real (tearing apart the railing in the process). Catra's frustrated that Hordak doesn't trust her, and thinks Shadow Weaver can still be useful. Scorpia wonders why Catra wants to keep Shadow Weaver around, since she's never been nice to her.

Catra: "...you wouldn't understand."

So yeah seems like that part about the scorpion people giving the Black Garnet to Hordak might have been a teensy bit twisted by the propaganda machine

Light Spinner makes her case to the rest of the Sorcerer's Guild, noting that the Horde has taken the Black Garnet. She proposes casting something called the Spell of Obtainment to get stronger, but that magic is forbidden since it turns the caster into a magical parasite. Light Spinner says she's modified it, and with the coming alignment of planets it will work. Norwyn rejects her idea, making her even angrier. Micah spots her as she angry-walks through the halls, and she rants at him about how Norwyn & c:o just wants to hold the rest of them back (and we get a quick silent cameo of child Castaspella)... but if Micah wants to help, there's another way to do it...

Catra informs Shadow Weaver of her vacation destination, and Shadow Weaver can't bring herself to care. Catra's getting increasingly desperate to be given something that'll let her keep Shadow Weaver in the Fright Zone, but the sorceress has given up. She only asks Catra to see her Sorcerer's Guild badge one last time, as the last thing she'll ever ask of Catra.

Catra: "You don't get to ask things of me anymore."

Light Spinner brings Micah to Mystacor's main hall, and pours a vial of the crystal dust into the font. It starts glowing, and the two of them start casting the Spell of Obtainment. A purple octahedron appears above them, and within it, a shadowy mass with multiple hands start forming, eventually breaking out.

Okay maybe this spell is evil

The hands start grabbing for Micah, who panics and runs away, leaving Light Spinner to control the spell alone. Predictably, it goes poorly, and she starts getting pulled into the blob. The blob then bursts, and Light Spinner is surrounded by black, translucent flames. Micah tries approaching, but gets thrown back, into the arms of Norwyn. Light Spinner stands up, her face and arms scarred, her eyes having turned weird.

Norwyn: "You've always hungered after power. Bringing you into our ranks was a grave mistake."
Light Spinner: "The only mistake was seeking the approval of a fool like you. You're all weak! None of you deserve my help!"

The sorcerers attack Light Spinner, but she counters two of them easily and when Norwyn rushes her, she magically stops him, lifts him up in the air, and... has a black blob consume him, which she then absorbs to eat his power. She grabs Micah with black tendrils, but rather than hurt him, she caresses his face and then disappears... showing up an unspecified time later in the Fright Zone, where she introduces herself by casually deleting a guard and announces that she wishes to ally with Hordak.

And in the Fright Zone in the present, Catra returns to Shadow Weaver's cell with a tray of food... and drops it on the floor when she hears that Shadow Weaver hasn't come up with anything. Shadow Weaver questions why Catra's the one who keeps bringing her food, knowing that she's not just there to gloat.

Catra: "Why... why did you treat me the way you did? Why was I never good enough for you? Really? I wanna know."
Shadow Weaver: "Because you remind me of myself. You always have. Nothing was ever easy for me either. I wasn't born to power like Adora and... others. I had to earn my power, fight for it. Why should it be any different for you?"
Catra: "I was a child when you took me in! What could I have possibly done to deserve the way you treated me? I am nothing like you. You are old, and bitter, and weak!"
Shadow Weaver: "Ah, but you are like me. And just like me, you're losing your position with Hordak, I can see that even from my cell."

Catra denies being pushed out, that it's just because Entrapta knows tech, but her tone makes it clear she's trying to convince herself more than Shadow Weaver. The sorceress beckons her to come closer, and while caressing her ear tuft, says she wants Catra to go further than she did, to be smarter and stronger than her. Catra asks her to come up with something that'll let her stay again, and Shadow Weaver says she'll try.

Yeah the whole situation between these two is pretty complicated

Catra leaves, cracking a smile as she touches her ear tuft. Shadow Weaver then notices something hidden in the food tray... her old badge!

We're then treated to another flashback, seeing Shadow Weaver draw power from the Black Garnet when she hears a child crying. She goes to Hordak's throne, where two captains are holding a crying human infant with a tuft of blonde hair on its head. Hordak has been on an excursion where he arrived... somewhere too late, finding only the child, which he finds useless and wants put with the other orphans. Shadow Weaver feels that the child has power, and is granted custody of it.

Shadow Weaver: "Oh, don't worry, little one. We're going to do great things together.

In her cell, Shadow Weaver declares it's time, as the moons are in alignment. She breaks her badge, revealing crystal powder within, which she uses to draw a magic circle on the ground. It glows, there's smoke effects, and then Catra comes back to the cell, thinking that they could brainstorm together. But the Shadow Weaver in the cell now turns out to be only an illusion. Catra realizes that the closest thing she ever had to a mother had just been using her, and breaks down crying.

Catra has literally not had a good day since Adora left and she needs a hug

And then, for the first time in the episode, we get to see what the Best Friend Squad are up to. Bow's directing Adora and Glimmer to position antennas up on Bright Moon's roof, in the middle of the night, to try to get a better signal to his tracker pad, now thinking that it didn't pick up a bug but a transmission. Adora falls when adjusting her antenna and is caught by Glimmer, but Bow has gotten enough of the message that Adora can identify three words on it...

Adora: "Serenia... portal... Mara. What's a Serenia?"
Glimmer: "I don't know. But if it has to do with Mara, it can't be good."

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Bow comes out of the closet.

---

Biiiiiig sorry for the massive delay! While some of it was due to work, I can't truthfully claim that it was mainly caused by anything other than general incompetence and procrastination from my side. Then I started feeling bad about not having done it which demotivated me and then it just went on like that until I decided I just needed to sit down and get it done. Which I did! So hopefully we should be mostly back on track now.

The Saga

Season 2, Episode 7: Reunion

Last time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Shadow Weaver escaped the Fright Zone by way of gaslighting Catra, in the process further shattering her already rather damaged psyche.

Bow's sitting on a spire on Bright Moon's roof, pondering the words they got out from the message last night (presumably). He admits into his recorder that he's getting nowhere, when his tracker pad starts beeping and glowing red, and panics about something that's happening today. At the same time, Adora's sleeping peacefully in her bed, when Glimmer teleports in and wakes her up by yelling and yanking her blanket away, leading Adora to

Adora that does not seem safe

Adora, not entirely awake: "Wah! Uh, what's going on? What is it?"
Glimmer: "It's Bow. He's in trouble."

Cue Warriors.

Glimmer's dragging Adora through a forest, citing the arrow with a note he shot through her window as proof that Bow's in trouble and that they have to follow him. The note that specifically says "I'm fine. Don't follow me." Glimmer also has absolutely no idea where Bow actually hangs out when he's not at Bright Moon.

Adora: "Seriously? How long have you two been friends again?"

Glimmer says that despite how open Bow is, he's never talked about his past. Tracking him through the forest, by way of broken twigs, sap, and his incredibly distinct footprints, they find his bow and arrow hidden in front of a building none of them have seen before. Teleporting in, they find it's a... library. A door opens, and in comes... Bow, holding a stack of books and scrolls, and most worryingly, dressed in a shirt that covers his midriff. Seeing his friends, he panics, hiding his quiver and Adora's sword as the door opens again, and he introduces Glimmer and Adora as "my friends from the academy" to... his two dads, who pull them all into a double dad hug.

Moustache Dad is George, Glasses Dad is Lance. They're not named until later in the episode but if I didn't have their names now writing this would get dumb

Catra's talking to her squad (and Scorpia) about beefing up security. She's briefly scared by a shadow that looks like Shadow Weaver, and Lonnie brings up that Shadow Weaver's cell is empty. Catra claims she threw her into solitary, and threatens to imprison the next person who questions her. Scorpia can tell something's wrong, but Catra's clearly not interested in talking to her.

In the dad library, the Best Friend Squad has been served tea. George is talking to Glimmer and Adora while Lance is excitedly asking if they want anything else.

George: "Yes, so energetic. Heh. You girls must love attending the Academy of Historic Enterprises with Bow."
Glimmer, nervously: "Uh, yes! Absolutely." Proceeds to elbow Adora who's trying to hide behind the teacup
Adora, who probably hasn't opened a book in her life: "Wouldn't change a thing, at the... academié, that we all... gó tó."

(the exaggerated accent Adora puts on to sound smart in this episode is completely impossible to properly get across in writing but I'm trying okay)

The dads mention some shards that Bow's older brother sent, with Glimmer and Adora having absolutely no idea he even had any siblings. Turns out he's got twelve of them, which according to Lance are all historians... and so will Bow be when he graduates and takes over the library.

Yeah about that

Lance wants to give them a tour of the library, mentioning a shard of a runestone... that George states would be long gone if not for its historical value, since he doesn't want any reminders of the princesses or the war—since he fought in the last one, and his entire village was gone when he came back, vowing that his family would never get mixed up in that business again. To lighten up the mood, Lance suggests baby pictures, including Bow's first bubble bath.

Bow: "IIIII'm gonna show Adora and Glimmer my room now!"
Adora: "I wanna see the bubble baths!"
Bow: "Now!"

Bow shoves them into another room, and Glimmer demands an explanation while Adora keeps munching on snacks. He explains that he's cooked up a cover story about him being at boarding school with Glimmer and Adora as his classmates, because he wanted to do more than just be a scholar but his dads never listen to him. He gets them to play along by bringing up that there's a good chance that there's clues about the message in the collection.

Adora, the single worst actress on Etheria: "Sure! Why not? We can be... schölárs. Hów hàrd cán it bé?" (the last sentence is spoken in an incredibly weird cadence that is even more impossible to get across in writing)
Glimmer, facepalming: "Uuugh, this is gonna be a disaster."
Bow: "Well, maybe with that attitude it will be. Byyy the way, I maaay have said in my letters that Glimmer is aphysics major, Adora's an art major, nobody is a princess or has magical powers, and we all met freshmen year. Okay? Let's go."

Scorpia has been on the lookout for anything suspicious, but in the Fright Zone, that's everything. She asks an annoyed Catra for specifics, who tells her to get out. Scorpia responds by doing something she says she really didn't want to but now has no choice, and throws a blanket over Catra... and then proceeds to wrap her in it and cradle her like a baby. Scorpia tries to calm her down, while Catra gets angrier... and admits that she lost Shadow Weaver, and has to find her before Hordak finds out. Scorpia says she'll help, and suggests having Entrapta make a locator, which Catra immediately nixes because Entrapta cannot keep a secret and if Hordak learns about it, it'll be over for Catra.

Scorpia: "Then we make sure that doesn't happen. We'll find Shadow weaver, the two of us, and not a word of it will leave this room."

Yeah about that

The Dad Duo gives the girls a tour of the library, showing old artifacts, and... the space under a cabinet where Bow played pretend as a kid. Glimmer suggests he played pirates, but Lance says he played a historian, already preparing to take over the library. Bow nervously agrees.

Adora: "Mr. Bow's Dad, uh, sir... as First Ones històriáns, do you know anything about the lore of She-Ra?"
Lance: "Ah... great question. Accurate translations are hard to come by, but we think the name was actually Her-Ra."
Adora, chuckling: "Well, that's not right."
Bow: "Buuut, you don't know that for sure, Adora!"
Lance: "She'd fight for the power of Grayskull."
Adora: "It's For the Honour of Grayskull!"
Lance: "And rode on a dragon."
Adora, super jealous: "Wait, she got a dragon? I wish I had a–" Bow puts his hands over her mouth to shut her up

After showing the runestone shard, Lance asks Glimmer and Adora about their studies. Adora has already forgotten what she was supposed to be majoring in and ends up claiming she's a triple majör in art, history, and art history. While Adora digs herself deeper and Bow trying to stop her, George talks to Glimmer, mentioning how it seems like she brought him out of his shell. Bow finally shuts Adora up by claiming they got a First Ones puzzle to solve for school, but they're stuck on "Serenia". Lance brings out a pile of scrolls and tablets about Serenia, said to be a mythical First Ones hero, who may or may not have existed. The dads aren't in agreement about it. Adora notes one of the scrolls is mislabeled and actually about aqueducts, thus revealing she can read First Ones writing, claiming it's because she also studied linguistics... having lost count of how many majors she has at this point. George shows a tattoo in First Ones writing on his arm, which Adora identifies as saying... "lunch". George thought it said love. Lance finds this extremely hilarious. The dads bring her to solve another question for them, leaving Bow and Glimmer with the pile...

Yeah that's a mood I remember

Glimmer's mad/sad about Bow never having told her about his past, now feeling like she doesn't know him at all. Bow confirms that she is the one who does know everything about the real him, and it's his dads that he's hiding the truth from. He's tried to tell them that he's different from the rest of his family, but they won't listen. So he pretends, even if it's making him miserable. (This might remind you of something.)

Dad & Dad shows Adora a sphere that was found with the runestone shard, but they can't agree on what it is and asks Adora about the writing on it. She identifies it as a pásswörd to open it—"Eternia." So it activates. Growing legs. And eyes. And teeth. And starts rampaging about the library.

Adora, exhibiting less social competence than the average potato: "It's an Elemental, this'll be a piece of cake!"
Bow: "Adora, wait!"
Adora, pulling the sword out of the pot Bow hid it in: "For the Honour of Gráyskull!"
Bow, nervously, to his dads: "Adora is a sixth major in She-Ra?"

When you're being judged by two dads at once

So, Adora stands in the way of the Elemental and gets knocked onto the second floor for it, and Glimmer steps in with her magic. Bow's dads are getting increasingly more angry with him as he admits he's run into Elementals before, and explains that it's protecting something. Lance suggests it's the runestone shard. Bow runs to get it, with Adora and Glimmer trying to fight the Elemental and protect the dads. Bow bares his midriff, grabs his bow and quiver, distracts the elemental and retrieves the shard, presenting it to the Elemental... which just stops, grabs the shard, and goes back into sleep mode.

George: "WHAT IS GOING ON?"

Bow comes clean, explaining that he's lied about the academy and that he's been fighting with the Rebellion alongside Adora and Glimmer, and that he never wanted to be a historian but a soldier, leading to the exchange that more than anything in the episode sums up what it's an allegory for, and I'm just going to present it verbatim.

Bow: "This is who I am and I can't lie about it anymore, even though I know I'm breaking your hearts."
George, hugging Bow: "What's breaking our hearts is the fact that you thought you had to lie about who you are."
Bow: "You're not mad? But I'm a fighter, and you hate fighters!"
George: "I could never hate you. Never. If you feel like you belong in the Rebellion, that's where you belong."
Lance: "Oh, Bow, why didn't you just tell us?"
Bow: "I tried, but you didn't listen. You only listened to me if I said what you wanted to hear."
Lance: "We had no idea you felt that way. We were just trying to encourage you to pursue your dreams. We thought we were being supportive, when really we were being terrible!"
George: "We love you the way you are, Bow, and we're proud of you. No matter what path you take in life."

Bow and his dads hug, and George invites Glimmer and Adora to join, as it's a family hug and he's accepting that they're Bow's family too.

And so Bow managed to come out to his gay dads

After hugging time, Bow shows his dads the tracker pad with the message. They recognize something about the pattern, and ask Bow to really look at the message... and he realizes they're not actually words. They bring out a projector, and explain how the world of the First Ones was different. The climate, the language, and even the sky... since it was full of stars, which they used to navigate and named constellations after heroes, like Serenia. A constellation that only appeared in summer, and only over one place—the Crimson Waste. A dangerous, dangerous place. George asks them to promise that they'll stay away.

Meanwhile in the Fright Zone, Hordak has called Catra to his sanctum, to... touch base. Catra claims everything is going smoothly, prompting Hordak to ask if Shadow Weaver has been sent to Beast Island... which Catra says she has, and that they're never going to see her again... following which Imp comes in, replaying the conversation Catra had with Scorpia about losing the sorceress. Hordak activates the oxygen deprivation machine, and Catra knows she's in trouble. Hordak had learned she had been lying, but more than anything, he's mad about that when given the chance to come clean and prove her worth to the Horde, she continued lying.

Hordak: "This was a test. And you failed."

And back in Bright Moon, Adora's sleeping, when...

Oh dear

Next time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, we learn of the brutal conditions in Bright Moon's prison.

The Saga

Yep, George is visually basically 80's Bow but with dark skin and hair (and less uncovered skin).

And, of course, Bow's version of himself in his scenario in Roll With It was also based on 80's Bow, so in-universe, he gave himself some elements from his dad who had been a soldier.

Intermission #4: Swift Wind Adventures

With season two out of the way after all this time, it's finally time for an intermission that's not a book... buuuuut it's all about Swift Wind. Swift Wind Adventures was a series of shorts uploaded to the Masters of the Universe Youtube channel between seasons 2 and 3. So we're at an appropriate time for them like that, at least. Chronologically, there's however not really any chance for them to take place "now", but they can be slotted in pretty much anywhere between the end of season 1 and the end of season 2 (well, the last one can't happen before Ties That Bind, but anyway). There's maybe a tiny window between the first two episodes of season 3 where some could happen, but I find it by far the most likely that they all take place during season 2.

I said shorts, and I really do mean short—they're between 3 and 4 minutes each—and there's five in total, so we're just going to go through all of them. Linking to them as well so you can watch them if you haven't already.

Episode 1: Unicorn Warrior Training!
Perfuma's leading a Plumerian meditation group, with the purpose to get them to find their inner warrior. It goes poorly, when a certain flying horse shows up.

Swift Wind: "Did someone say... Swift Wiiind?"
Perfuma: "Oh dear."

Nobody actually said it, as usual, but Perfuma does ask him to help them, since as the She-Ra's noble steed he might be able to teach them to be mighty rebels. He's up for the task, and so it's time for a training montage! In fact, Swift Wind even calls out "training montage!"

He teaches them to... kick with their back legs, flap their wings so hard things fall over from the wind pressure, eat a basket full of apples, and fence with their horns (using headbands with horns on them). And if things get really bad, they using their horns to signal She-Ra. Y'know, all things that are very applicable for Etherians that are not specifically Swift Wind.

Perfuma: "I have made multiple mistakes."

Perfuma rightfully has second thoughts, and Swift Wind just thinks she's worried about the Plumerians having become fearsome warriors.

Perfuma: "It's just... your methods seem a bit horse-oriented, and-"

She is conveniently interrupted by a Horde soldier attacking, and the Plumerians stop it by headbutting and kicking it. Adora shows up having seen Swift Wind's signal earlier, but he just claims he saved the day and flies away.

Episode 2: Arm Wrestling Revenge!
Swift Wind enters Seaworthy, followed by Adora in She-Ra-form. The find Sea Hawk crying over a table, and Mermista consoling him (without actually putting any heart into it). Swift Wind asks if he can be of assistance, and Sea Hawk does want his help.

Mermista: "Uuugh, please get to the point."

Turns out, Sea Hawk lost his boat in an arm wrestling contest and needs to win it back. To impress Mermista, who of course is the best part of this entire intermission (and my Mermista bias might be showing :V).

Mermista: "Yeah, winning back the boat you lost in front of me is not impressive."

So Swift Wind challenges the purple woman that beat Sea Hawk to an... arm wrestling contest.

Sea Hawk: "This isn't even the weirdest threesome I've participated in."

Adora: "Uh, Swift Wind? There's just like one little problem with this... ugh."
Mermista: "He'll figure it out in a second."

The woman shoves Sea Hawk off the table and assumes the arm wrestling position, as Swift Wind... tries to bend his leg to do the same thing. It goes poorly.

Mermista: "Aaand there it is."
Swift Wind: "Oh, I know! Swift Wind proceeds to knock the table over as he tries to use his back hooves instead Okay, I think we can all agree that this is not going to work."

In the end he uses his wing instead, and does surprisingly well. Adora and Sea Hawk cheer him on, while Mermista...

Mermista, completely unenthusiastically: "You can... probably do it. Rah, rah."

The woman's little cat whatever creatures jump on Swift Wind's wing, but he manages to beat her! Adora and Mermista hug Sea Hawk as the woman walks off, muttering.

Mermista: "Uh, she says the boat goes to the winner... soooooo..."

And that's how Swift Wind became the captain on a boat and Mermista revels in it, showing enthusiasm about something for the only time in the episode... to Sea Hawk's chagrin. Them's the breaks, Sea Hawk.

Episode 3: A Princess Birthday Party!
Adora's invited to Princess Frosta's birthday party, and has no idea what to get her as a birthday gift. She doesn't even know what a birthday gift is, since they didn't have birthdays in the Horde. She goes to Glimmer and Bow for help, but Swift Wind interrupts them, apparently having been waiting in the room for a while. He says he'll help her... but he's never been to a birthday party either. His suggestions include: oats, a Horde stun baton, a stick ("It's a food separator! You put it on your plate, and then your food doesn't touch!"), apples, a creepy doll, a lasso, horseshoes (one of which is tossed onto Adora's head, knocking her out), stun baton doll, whistle, hoof bedazzling, mask, and hay. The Best Friend Squad are thoroughly unimpressed.

Glimmer: "I need an adult!"

Adora and Swift Wind go to Frosta's palace, Adora having panicked and brought the stick, wrapped with a ribbon. Swift Wind's disappointed in himself for having failed to save the day. Adora hesitantly walks up to Frosta, who gets extremely excited when she sees the duo.

Adora, knowing this is a disaster: "Happy birthday, Princess Frosta! Um... we didn't know quite what to get you, so, um, the best we could come up with was..."
Frosta: "Eeeee! You're letting me ride Swift Wind for my birthday? Awesome! Can we go right now?"
Adora, tossing the stick offscreen and breaking something: "Ehehe... suuure!"

So Adora takes an excited Frosta on a ride, and Frosta says it's the best birthday ever. The end!

Episode 4: Grounded Glimmer Jailbreak!
Bow approaches Adora and Swift Wind, having their serious faces on. Swift Wind reports that he saw Glimmer having been taken. She was supposed to join a recon mission to Plumeria, but was intercepted in the throne room.

Adora: "It's time for... Operation Free Glimmer!"
Bow: "Where did they take her? The Fright Zone?"
Swift Wind: "It's worse than that! We're going to... Glimmer's bedroom."
Bow: "...waitaminute, what?"
Adora: "Queen Angella grounded Glimmer!"

Bow: "Are these guys for real?"

Bow laughs, and asks if they even know what being grounded is... but Adora's adamant about commencing the operation. She and Swift Wind plan something out, and fly in... with Swift Wind getting stuck in the window. Some guards pass by, and when Adora hides on the outside, they both fall. They then try approaching through the corridor, hiding from guards... but Swift Wind, being a big horse, isn't great at hiding in such a space and ends up knocking down several pieces of art. The guards see them, but don't care at all. They finally make it to Glimmer's room, kicking in the door, where... Glimmer's having ta with her mom. Adora explains they thought Glimmer was being held against her will, and Glimmer admits that she did get grounded for trying to sneak away to hang out with Perfuma without telling anyone, but Angella came to talk with her and they're having a lot of fun now, having a rare moment of hanging out outside of Rebellion business.

Adora: "Ooooh. We're so sorry to barge in on your majesty, I... I guess we'll just go."
Angella: "Would you two like to be grounded and join us for tea?"
Bow, stepping in with his bow drawn: "The fact that I didn't come help you has been eating me up! And I feel like a bad friend, and I'm ready to rescue-"
Adora: "We're staying in and drinking tea!"
Bow: "Yaaaay!"
Swift Wind: "Well, it looks like Operation Everyone Gets Grounded... is a success. For the honour of... ohoho, is that apple blossom? Pass it over!"

Episode 5: Horse Hero Transformation!
Swift Wind comes to the Crystal Castle, having gotten a summon from Adora, telling Light Hope that he doesn't want to fight spiders again.

Adora, dropping in from the ceiling: "Did someone say... She-Raaa?"
Swift Wind: "Haha, no one did! Why are you making a grand entrance?"

Adora wants to acknowledge Swift Wind having helped a lot of people recently, so she wants to help him back. Light Hope tries to explain that there are things he has to to fulfill his role as She-Ra's noble steed, but before she can mention any Swift Wind has his own list: His own transformation sequence, eating more apples, and letting go of his past by showing his old horse friends how cool he is now (which sounds kinda douche-y tbh).

Light Hope: "I have made multiple mistakes."

Adora: "Great! I'll help you do all that stuff, and then... you'll be a hero! Just like Light Hope said."
Light Hope: "That is neither correct nor what I said."
Swift Wind: "I stopped listening after 'Great!'. Come on!"

And so they proceed. Swift Wind eats 19 barrels of apples, having no regrets... until after he ate them all, wondering why Adora let him eat all of them. Then, Adora helps him do a She-Ra style transformation sequence, by doing wind and light effects and throwing glitter as Swift Wind poses in front of a backdrop (and as you might have guessed, this is where today's "title" image is from). Much to the bewilderment of the onlooking Thaymorians, because they chose to do this in Thaymor. Which I guess is because that's where Adora first met him when he still was a horse.

Swift Wind: "More glitter! Brighter lights! Now, do the song!"
Adora: "Swift Wiiind, it's a wonderful Swift Wiiind- hey, wait a minute, I don't get a song when I transform!"
Swift Wind: "Haha, good enough! Now, last but not least..."

Adora approaches two regular horses, and (very flatly) introduces Swift Wind and his abilities that normal horses don't have. The horses don't care. They return to the Crystal Castle, Swift Wind saying he's finished the training and feels like a whole new horse.

Swift Wind: "So, are we done here?"
Light Hope: "No. Nothing you said or did as prepared you for your role as She-Ra's steed. As I tried to state earlier. There are many steps you must take to complete your training."
Adora: "Oh. Okay, well, then what's the first step?"
Light Hope, smirking: "Spiders." Lots of spiders start crawling in
Adora: "Great! Well, I guess another day is saved thanks to-"
Swift Wind: "Less talking, more dodging spiders!"

In the next intermission, fire!

Happy Easter, y'all! There will be no update next week as I work a lot next week and I want to get a few episodes in the pipe before I start posting season 3. Until then!
