Has anyone figured out any solutions to the whole "stuck at the connect screen" thing where you click continue and then the screen goes black for a bit then you're back at the same screen again? I haven't been able to play since Season 8 launched and there are apparently thousands of posts about this on the Respawn forums and Respawn just doesn't give a poo poo.

Shame to have to give up on this otherwise extremely fun and good game because it just doesn't work for some people.

e: lol apparently the fix is "create a new EA account" choke on fetid poo poo and die respawn

In the thousands of posts there's a workaround for PC where you limit your connection speed as you connect - the exact speed depends people have had to play around with it - close a bunch of notifications as quickly as you can before the game boots you, then remove the limit and it may work. Your mileage may vary. Detailed here.

For King's Canyon these days, I rarely drop Labs uncontested, and the Labs to Capacitor tunnel is always a fight. Similarly there will always be 2+ teams at Crash Site.

It's not a good drop spot but every team in the map will probably go through the area around Containment. If you're there for more than 30 seconds someone will stumble into you.

I stuck someone and blew them up with an Arc Star for the first time today and now I don't think I can use any other grenade.

Doing damage on the stick is crazy also. I knew it did this, but the effect in a fight is dramatic to see in action.

I honestly don't think Loba would be busted if her tactical was literally a point and click instant teleport. Everything else in her kit is good in a strategic sense, but not fight-changing.

Might be because I only play him infrequently, so they don't have time to get used to it, but it's pretty funny how upset they get from some ghostly footsteps

Not that Mirage in particular is a problem for me, but I've lost track of the number of times I've heard footsteps, pivoted and shot my allies a few bullets.

I feel its a good instinct but I wish this game made it a little more obvious. Most of the time their name doesn't even show up.

The funniest thing I've seen Wattson players doing is using fences to execute downed enemies. In fact, doing that is almost always a sign they know what they're doing.

As for Caustic, he's good but you do need some team play because it ideally takes more than one player to destroy an enemy team stuck in the gas. If your ideal playstyle doesn't really mesh well with what your teammates want to do then it's hard to get anything going. I'm not just talking camping buildings either it's all about taking advantage of opportunities.

I DL'd this like a week ago since CoD WZ is getting really stale. I've been doing mostly OK though still learning what/when to use skills and the maps. Any tips or strats? Like "stick to the edge of the circle" or "use recon to rush the last circle" type stuff. Still learning weapons, I've been using a Hemlok (keep wanting to call it Havoc) and Sentinel to good effect. Sniping in this game is a lot easier than CoD, since you can actually poke your head out for a second and sight without getting 1-shot by some hyped-up 12 year old.

Look up and learn basic movement techs, movement is more key to this game than guns and map experience honestly.

As for rotation strategy, a lot depends on your team and character. Someone like Caustic needs to find the inner rings and set up, while someone like Gibraltar is great if your back is to the ring and you're mobile each round. But that only really applies to premade trios, if you're solo with fill teammates I like to pick a character with a movement ability like Horizon or Octane so you can quickly react to fluid situations.

Also in ranked there's a limit to kill points so if you've wiped a squad or two already your objective is just to survive to final circle. So if you are playing for max RP how you play depends a lot on the situation, do you have loot for a fight, is it risky for no gain, are you in the right location to third party someone else, who's likely to come through what chokepoints, can you get into a good position for the next circle, what positions won't have any teams at your back, things like that.

On Olympus I like to drop Rift. It's just really easy to loot and fight there, there's so much loot compared to every other POI, and almost every dropship can reach it. Backup plan is Grow Towers or Hydroponics, but I'm not opposed to Carrier, Gardens, even Solar Array since its easy to slip in there opportunistically. Bonsai or Oasis are fine but teams gently caress them up by splitting over vast areas when they know there's an enemy team right there. To a degree this is true everywhere but having big vertical levels like that seems to make it worse.

The problem is that I only get to be jumpmaster 1/3 of the time and its pretty much guaranteed we're dropping Hammond, Estates, or Fight Night.

I love/hate that Valk's ultimate is a better Crypto/Bloodhound and this part of the ability isn't shown anywhere in the trailers and isn't in the ult description (instead it's tacked onto the passive description). Thought the ult would be a good ability for 3-stacks and high-level gameplay but instead the info you get when you launch makes it good no matter the situation.

I've racked up something like 4? 5? wins already since last night just by jumping over mountain ranges to a good high-ground and waiting for/third-partying the final fight, or by getting my whole team out of a fight we weren't positioned for. I used to play mostly pathfinder/octane for the mobility but jetpack is better for that by far. the special is kind of hit or miss, but it's fun to suicide with.

Still though, is this the new meta? if not, how isn't it?

She gets a lot of play in normal matches / ranked and is part of the meta in pro tourneys, but not an auto-pick and not even the most-picked movement legend. Not only are certain parts of a team comp necessary in competitive (like Gibby and arguably Bloodhound), Valk's reposition is vulnerable while ascending/flying and while it usually doesn't get punished even in ranked, pros punish it *hard* while flying and if it's used wrong it's a team death sentence. So it's almost impossible to use it to rotate out of a tight spot. Octane had a higher pick rate as the team movement legend last ALGS champs.

I’m going to miss the Alternator. Down at my level having a gun that can kill someone with plenty of bullets to spare means that I can comfortably murder an R-99 maniac who thinks their aim is twice as good as it actually is while they’re desperately praying their reload goes off to finish the last 20 health I’ve been left with.

Is there another gun that’s as easy and comfortable? I feel like the Flatline comes close but it’s not quite the same.

R-301, Volt, Spitfire kind of. I actually use the R-301 and Alternator interchangeably right now since their feel is close enough though you definitely notice the increased recoil on the R-301.

R-99 you need to hit a lot, RE-45 mag is way too small, and the Flatline is kind of weird.

The old guard players are made up of people who didn’t quit playing because KC and WE sucked. So I’m pretty dubious of them. Most players I talk to that joined after season 7 are super favorable of Olympus and highly critical of KC/WE.

Yup, as someone who joined in season 7 Olympus is by far the best map, the things that drive me mad about it have to do with individual POIs rather than the map as a whole. Like the box housing being too visually same-y and Estates being an ugly boring drop magnet, though the fights there are fine. Hammond is only annoying because it's dead center and you have to fight your way through it eight in ten games, as a normal POI that's not deadass in the middle of the map it'd be fine. Even the wide open areas are good, they make it easier to pick alternate rotations.

The problem with WE and KC are the massive walls making every serious fight a battle in a tunnel, and it can't be fixed just by adding more tunnels. The best parts of KC are the open bits, even if some of them can be turned into hellholes thanks to high ground. The desert in the southwest and the areas overlooking Containment are where my most memorable fights take place. WE is better for this but the way it goes from wide open to a cliff that has one hole in it is just annoying.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I don't want to spend any money on the game but there's in-game currency you can use is that right?

I've gravitated so far towards Lifeline, the trick where she can have a bot revive someone while you avenge their shame is so useful.

Bloodhound was my training wheels since the wallhack makes up for not having developed proper situational awareness yet. It's also an ability you can easily press accidentally or at a bad time without consequence. Just don't get reliant on scan so that it ruins your play on other legends... I moved on to Caustic and Octane since they are also easy abilities to use without consequence, and then learned Horizon and Gibraltar where when to press Q matters a bit more.

But legends don't matter as much as winning gunfights so really just best to play a bunch and get in a lot of fights.

If I'm trying to improve I also take every opportunity to be jumpmaster and never relinquish. Since a fair number of people will pass it on you can be jumpmaster about 50% of the time and it helps learning maps and controlling the situation you find yourself in at the start.

I'm camping the points around Hammond like I used to do and instead of 6 squads throwing themselves into the buzzsaw we're lucky to see one. Like, hanging out at Waterfall / the Phase gateways waiting for the next ring seems pointless now, when it was super meta before if all you wanted to do was fight.

I am no good terribly bad at sniping but I have fun running a Sentinel / Shotgun combo because you don't need to carry five stacks of ammo and instead can carry five stacks of shield cells and run around constantly charged for BIG NUMBER when you hit.
