Hey all, I'm a returning player that duos with a much better player and I wanted to ask about the guns that help bad shots (me) deal SOME damage. Since I'm totally out of the loop, what's some guns to watch out for if I want to add some medium range and forgiving aim to the shotgun I always carry.

Previously I liked the Hemlock on single fire, or that DMR Bangalore is often shown with. Basically rifles I can put a 2x on and rapidly single click. Anything new or changed I may want to look for?

Yeah I had to ask my friend to remind me how to do it when we played; popping bots for a few minutes as a warm up should just be a thing.

It isn't so much that FPS aim is complete garbage, it's more that I've always tended towards flicked meat shots; I've always been someone to play a frenetic arena shooter like Quake over something like Cod or CS. So, I just try to use guns like that; I was very fond of the pump shotgun when I was playing Valorant, and I'm happy with all the shotguns and also the wingman in interiors in Apex. This second gun would be like something that helps me add a little weight to the various medium and long range ambushes and skirmishes that Apex has a lot of. I absolutely can't track worth a drat though, so SMGs are usually a good way for me to empty my mag with my enemy surviving.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll be on the look out for some of these next time I'm in the range. Regarding champions, I play blood hunter and don't see it changing, I play so infrequently it would be a waste to give up the familiarity I have. Besides, activating the ultimate in the final firefight is extremely satisfying.

Though I'm hearing there's a new champion built around shotguns, and I'm tempted.

I recommend Kovaak's if anyone wants to get good at aiming. So many different scenarios to work on specific things, tracking, flicking, etc. And you can easily set it to your Apex settings/FOV.

It goes down to $5 on a Steam sale.

Yeah, I play fifteen minutes of Kovaaks every day for the few weeks a year that I get really into a FPS, the last time it happened was Tarkov. What I noticed most wasn't so much a drastic improvement as just getting more consistent and confident that I WOULD make the shots I should be able, so less annoying wiffs.

How dangerous is rampart at close quarters with her mini gun? If I'm holding a peacemaker peacekeeper is it still a bad match up for me in an interior? I got absolutely melted by her twice last night. One of the times I failed to notice or properly consider the "one way" shield she makes, so there's that, but in the other instance she just encountered me around a boulder and killed me very, very quickly.

It's genuinely funny to be playing Apex with a friend who's more or less as mechanically competent at FPSing as I am, but who has never stopped playing tons of Apex since it came out; the game sense gap is enormous. For example, I always play Blood hunter and essentially just make my Q scan available for his call outs, it's more his power than mine.

Did play some Gibraltar last night and dropping the dome and the mortar together is still fantastic.

Hue, my buddies advice was "when you hear the mini gun, don't let her see you", but then when I asked "what, is it on a timer?", he said no :negative:

Edit: poo poo maybe he meant "if you hear its spun up, break contact and try again", I'd assumed he meant, like, an Overwatch style call-out for the power activating.

I played some Arena last night and I think PK and TT are my go to load out now.

Also, while my DPS on the bow isn't actually any good, it's pretty satisfying to Hanzo out some arrows at extreme range, not so much at an enemy as towards the general likely terrain features they're peeking, and occasionally see some 60 damage pop ups. And, since you spend so little time exposed because you're not stopping to aim, you can come out ahead (against bad players that aren't going to snipe you as you keep repeaking)

I have no idea if console/controller players owning me up close has anything to do with it (I kind of doubt it), but in the past week I started watching Coach Nihil and holding good sight lines/high points with ARs and even SRs (which I normally don't care for in MP FPSs) and it is a night and day difference in how well I can survive and win both in Royale and Arena.

Speaking of climbing out of bronze, I want to play some ranked but I think my IRL friends are more casual. I'm not anything special at FPS games, I never saw platinum in OW despite trying my hardest, but I don't tilt and like trying to play more seriously/intelligently; is there a goon discord for Apex I could use to find some games on the weekend?

There's absolutely no way to balance a titan ult, but there COULD be a special titan themed map/mode where there are a limited number of damaged titans you can work to bring online, with the final ring culminating in a titan brawl both supported and opposed by teamsl members that couldn't get one.

Spread the various parts out to make teams either go fetch them, or camp the titan frames, etc etc.

Am I wrong in thinking that lifelines abilities are a bit under utilized in Arena? Or am I sleeping on just how powerful her automated revive and heal are?

I know that, as was pointed out earlier in ranked discussion, guns and gun play matter far, far more than character, but I'd be curious to hear how people think the various kits work in Arena vs Royale. I'm sure I'm being secret MMR'd into bronze or silver Arena btw, so please feel free to mention high level comparisons but it may be less applicable to me personally.

Played some pug ranked last night, I'm still in rookie but I wanted to ask:

This game has a fantastic ping system, which I both use and respond to when my team mates use, but I don't like interacting with with randoms, so I have voice disabled. What are the odds on this tilting my team mates? Do you think it would be better or worse if I left voice on but just turned it all the way down?

Another ranked pick up game question: if your team of strangers hot drops to a near certain death, do you ride and die with them?

I'm a drat scrub but my heroes, in order of selection, is Blood Hound, Gibraltar, and Rampart.

What I really like about Rampart, aside from her fun aesthetic/VA, is that the mini gun comes up so often that it kind of frees me from failing to find a good gun / mods / enough ammo. That's probably not a problem for better players but if I'm playing Rampart I'm in PUB game with randoms and maybe things are just bad.

I'll also say, those little amped cover walls really help with long range poking.

What if the ult made a healing plyon that functioned like a super charged drone heal to help you either push or hold off a push. Maybe it also starts reviving anyone who's down? Lasts ten seconds, don't try to fight the team that is being life lined?

Bloodhound is a they, not a he. Not trying to jump on anybody, just wanted to mention it.
Love Bloodhound for all the reasons they listed; Bloodhound gives you more information, and prioritizes the important information: it might seem like a minor effect but really this is what a new player will struggle with: holding all of that stuff in their mental bandwidth at once. Plus I really love their aesthetic of a mysterious techno pagan bounty hunter.

Jack B Nimble

It's very true that, ironically, Blood Hounds info is itself something that needs to be mentally processed. However, once you've gotten accustomed to it, it does a LOT to make up for game sense.

Like I play with a thousand hour buddy and he knows where an enemy is likely to be after they break content, he can even time when they'll make it around that other corner they're no doubt rotating to. Me? I NEEDS to flash that tactical and see the silhouette, or I need to pop the ult, crest the hill or the rooftop, and just immediately have spelled out for me "Here! Here you idiot, here!!"

Plus, the hungry volf alvays tucker the vinna.

I'm far from an expert, but I think better players will back me up in the assertion that, in the end game when the circle is really closing in, you want weapons and characters that can work at close range. I mention that because, assuming you're fortunate or skillful enough to be occupying a structure that will be in the final ring, caustic will let you turn that place into an airless, lightless, kill house.

This is also where you get stiff like Gibraltar throwing down his ult at or near his feet and then throwing down his dome, so he's now safe within the epicenter of a mortar strike his opponents can't withstand.
