as a person who never leaves my house i've done pretty well for myself.
I don’t know how this would legally be justifiable, but morally I feel that they should have to pay out for the winner but not all of the parlays.

Could do with a big fine though.

We all know that if the event hadn’t been cancelled, Draft Kings would be (nervously) laughing all the way to the bank.

Yah this is gonna be interesting tho. They *should* be held to their posted rules, otherwise, wtf.

Of course I think that probably bankrupts them. And they will just wave their hands and say no one reasonable would expect that bet to payout, and our judges just aren't familiar with betting. I wonder if this happened in the UK though, would they be held to paying out?

No, UK bookmakers have legal impunity to not pay out as long as they can justify it. Proactively changing your T&Cs would probably be very frowned upon by the courts though

do you mean like, any goons, or "are there still professional poker players"

Gotta be tough these days eh. Feels like bots/assisted play is sucking all the money out of online, even if you live somewhere with access to a good size player pool. And live is such high variance, it's always been hard to survive without a huge bankroll and ability to play well through long downturns.

when people call in to Bart Hanson's shows they describe their opponents as "recs" "regs" and "pros" and there's still occasional mentions of "pros" but of course that's not an objective analysis of whether those people are actually earning a living at it

Yeah I mean goons but I guess also if you know people in general who are. I think MrTimCaum is the only poker goon still playing nose bleed tournaments. I think everyone else is either retired or playing part time

It's currently my only real uhh theoretical income but also I am on a (no exaggerating) 120 buyin downswing and am currently playing NL50 as a sort of stop loss after dropping from 500 to 200 to 50 so either something weird is going on on ignition with the bots and colluders or I'm experiencing the rare .01% bottom percentile luck or I'm terrible now or some combination

But at least I graduate law school this year haha

I guess its time for me to try to get the last bit of my full tilt money out of pokerstars. Don't think my state is making it legal anytime soon.

Been trying to step through the process to get it withdrawn without being able to login (poo poo, I don't think I've gotten on the site in 6 years now).

We're still talking significant money - do they not do actual bankwires anymore? what the hell is this poo poo?

A zpurse for my skrill? I thought skrill was some joke payment processor created by that sealswithclubs guy.

Muchbetter? Is there not a withdrawal option anymore that isn't weird as gently caress and won't cost me a ton of fees? I guess does anyone have experience with either of these options?

Sorry can't offer much help. But Skrill use to be Moneybookers. I don't know if I would trust them necessarily though since they

1. Touch cryptocurrencies now
2. Had some huge hacking incident that they didn't find out the extent of (or reveal) for years

Maybe its moot since im guessing you're trying to get cash and pull it out. But yeah those don't look like the best options.

Good luck.

Man, what is going on with pokerstars? I still have an insane amount of tournament tickets (because I frantically bought as many as I could with my FTP points right before the site went down, hoping they would be converted to cash somehow along the way. They are telling me if I cash everything out and the account gets closed, the tickets are just lost. So I asked if I could convert the account to a US, New Jersey account, and play it if/when I visit there. And this is what they say, lol.

It might work, it might not, life is a mystery. If it doesn't work, all your money and tickets could just disappear!

https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2024/4/11/24127893/shohei-ohtani-interpreter-ippei-mizuhara-guilty-plea-16-million-gambling-scandal

quote:

On Thursday, federal prosecutors formally charged Ippei Mizuhara, the longtime translator of Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani, with bank fraud stemming from what is described as the theft of more than $16 million from Ohtani’s bank account to support Mizuhara’s gambling addiction. It represents the latest turn in a scandal that has engulfed baseball’s biggest star in recent weeks and offers substantial new information in a saga that has seen dramatic revelations and even more dramatic reversals.

quote:

The money was allegedly used to pay off bookmaker Mathew Bowyer, with the first payments occurring in 2021. The complaint appears to support Ohtani’s claims, made during a press conference last month, that he was unaware of the payments and did not place any bets himself; online sports gambling is illegal in California, where Ohtani and Mizuhara live.

quote:

Prosecutors say that Mizuhara began making wagers with Bowyer in September 2021 and placed approximately 19,000 bets between December 2021 and January 2024. The total amount of money involved is staggering: The complaint says that records of Mizuhara’s wagers “reflect total winning bets of $142,256,769.74, and total losing bets of $182,935,206.68.” This means that, in all, Mizuhara is alleged to have lost more than $40 million.

quote:

In September 2021, just as Mizuhara allegedly began placing wagers with Bowyer, prosecutors say he texted the bookie, “I’ve just been messing around with soccer, there’s games on 24/7 lol. I took UCLA but they lost outright!!!” He seemed to be unfamiliar with many of the mechanics of placing bets, messaging a second bookmaker the next month to say that he’d never done a wire transfer before.

As the months went on, the complaint says, Mizuhara repeatedly remarked on his own poor results. He wrote in January 2022, “gently caress I lost it all lol … can you ask [BOOKMAKER 1] if he can bump me 50k? That will be my last one for a while if I lose it.” In November 2022, he wrote, “I’m terrible at this sport betting thing huh? Lol … Any chance u can bump me again?? As you know, you don’t have to worry about me not paying!!” “I got my rear end kicked again lol,” he allegedly told Bowyer in June 2023 before asking for more credit.

Other messages point to Mizuhara’s grim awareness that things were spiraling out of control. On one occasion, the complaint shows Mizuhara texted Bowyer to ask if he could reduce his account’s available credit from $300,000 to $100,000. “I’ll get too reckless with 300,” the complaint quotes him writing. In December 2022, the complaint says he texted Bowyer, “Can u bump me last 200? I swear on my mom this will be the last ask before I pay it off once I get back to the states. Sorry for keep on asking….” Six months later, the complaint reads, he wrote, “I have a problem lol.”
