As far as "being laughed out of academia", you're probably not going to find literal journal articles that are taking the piss out of him (it's rare because unless it's an academic text, most historians aren't going to waste their time writing journal articles tearing down every non academic work they don't like) but there's a solid reason Richard Evans, Richard Rhodes, and Timothy Snyder and the like pretty much ignored the book. And it's not because he made some ground breaking discovery they'd rather not admit to. It's because it's not very well regarded and seen as "uhhhhh, that's an awful lot of conjecture there." So I'm willing to trust that consensus. lmao at the mod putting words into other historians mouths to defend his dumb opinion also lmao at that list of historians, esp Rhodes whose most famous work falls into the exact same category of text as Edwin Black's
