If you're talking about starting a new world with the same old seed, sure. Actually I'm pretty sure new stuff will still generate on unexplored parts of your old map, just not on the areas you've already been to.
It did when I went to new plains on my existing seed after the tarpit update. I haven't tried the new mountain caves but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Sweet! Has there been an appreciable improvement in map generation from newer seeds since the earlier releases? I'm playing an old seed and trying to decide whether to stick on it, it's from the early days of the game

At one point they changed how the game stitches the different biomes together.

If I start a new world with my old seed, the borders will look different but everything else will be mostly the same.

Thanks! Yeah i was seeing some rough stitching and wondering if it would look better with a modern map. I'll try it out thanks

FYI there's a mod that lets you continue playing on an existing world and enjoy the benefits of the new update at the same time

Speaking of mods, are there any I should pick up? I see Valheim Plus has a bunch of downloads, but it changes so much I'm not actually sure I can trust it.

If not that, there's this, which seems nice I guess.

Valheim Plus does pretty near everything you'd want a mod to do short of conversion mods like Epic Loot, and easily configurable in Notepad.

Valheim Plus is entirely customizable. You can turn every single thing on or off as you choose and the documentation is really clear and easy to read. I highly recommend it.

My list:
First Person View: Allows you to zoom all the way into a first person view. Great for dungeons and for admiring your lovely fort.
Any Portal: Travel to and from any portal.
Equipment and Quick Slots: Adds a separate section to the inventory for your equipment, and adds a few quick slots.
No Lens Dirt: Removes the dirty lens effect.
Immersive Hud: Lets you tailor when and how HUD elements should be displayed.

Imo these mods add/change features that should've been part of the base game. I also use Valheim Plus, mainly so that I don't have to refill my torches and poo poo all the time.

A bunch of small things that straight up improve the game:

  • Build Camera Mod: gives you a free camera to build from so you don't have to fall off your roof 80 times. Also very useful for building docks since you can zoom in under the water
  • Farm Grid: lets you plant in a grid
  • Plant Anything: lets you plant anything, like berries, bushes, decorative vines, etc.
  • Mass Farming: lets you put 25 plants down at once, all in a nice grid
  • Blast Furnace - All Ores: lets you put all ores in the blast furnace

Is it easy to turn off the "keep your poo poo on death" part?

Echoing this but for those mods that are geared to expand on the current game in terms of new content. There are a few mods that add new monsters / NPCs to the game. One of them is sea creatures, for example. Anyone tried those?

One of the things i bitched about on here was the world spawns changing, are there any good mods that alter that without just eliminating it? my dream would be one that disables it on the starting island

How will the PC mods work when crossplay is enabled I wonder? Like for example if I've got a mod that lets my torches burn forever, will the Xbox players on the server see them burning forever too? Will I be able to give burn-forever torches to them or build them in their houses, even if they can't have the mod installed on their version of the client? How does this stuff typically work in other cross-play games?

anatomi

Mods have to be installed on both server and client side. If they don't match you won't be able to connect. Maybe that'll change if mods ever become an official feature.

Is that new for crossplay? Because right now you can absolutely run mods on your client side that don't run on the server. Which I know mostly because I'm running my own client and server with separate mods.

It depends on the specific mod whether it works server or client side.

SPACE FACE! SPACE FACE!

Yeah like a UI mod that changes local display is client, but something for the server underpinnings would have to be on server side. So something that made grey dwarves look like Hatsune Miku would probably be client side, putting silver in meadow biome server side etc.

The Blast Furnace Fix that lets you put copper/tin/iron/silver into it is client side though. Much more is happening client side than I'd expect.

So if I have that mod installed, and I build a blast furnace, my non-modded Xbox friends can walk up to it and use it (as long as, I presume, I'm logged in at the time), and their ore will be processed on my pc according to how the blast furnace mod works? Do I have it right?

PittTheElder

I have no idea what they will be able to do, though I would guess the answer is no.

But if you're playing on a server with no mods, and your client has the blast furnace mod you can put iron in it, and iron ingots will come out.

That's a big part of why the server has such a small footprint.

No. But they could give you the ore and you could put it in.

And it's entirely possible that if they were the first one in the area (and thus their client was the primary for the furnace) you would in fact not be able to put copper in. I'm guessing tho.

You could also install the mod that lets smelters/furnaces pull ore/coal from nearby chests and just have them put their ore in the chests.

It would only work when you're around, but it's easier.

If it's coming soon I'd like to know, there's a few things I'd like to stock up on if it's pending.

Hi! I just started 3 days ago, playing with more experienced friends (who have thankfully rolled new, babby characters so they could experience and realistically help with my progression).

This is generally what happened with me when I first started. And last night, I took out one myself, using my fine bow and fire arrows.
