I was extremely pleased to find that proper framing of a house with studs and rafters really makes a difference in the durability and sturdiness of the structure. Especially against a wandering troll.

I wish there were 45/26 degree walls/trapezoids and also triangles. It is frustrating to make dormers and multi tiered roofs and have to use a big squares or rectangles and having half of the wall tile hanging in the interior and looking like an eyesore.

It would also help when doing a half-timbered style with framing and walls.

Taking kind of works except when you go into irons the boat tends to just stop instead of slowing and the rudder control is non existent. You have to then go backwards to turn the rest of the way to complete your tack.

But yes, tacking “works”.

A few pages ago but someone said you cannot put a fire on stone and he rose the ground up to make a tower have a fire—you absolutely can if you do a stone floor tile. Not a wall tile, but floor tile. I do it all the time to make hearths.

I have a small section (very small peninsula) of a swamp that is a meadow before it becomes the water. I built a watchtower there for swamp excursions. Occasionally a deer spawns and gets spooked so runs away into the swamp. Gets murdered by swamp things.

I wish I could tame it. :smith:

I built a cylindrical tower of stone which was fairly easy. I ended up putting a square wooden main structure at the top that had 4 dormers because I couldnt make a hipped roof come to a point. I needed it to go 26 to steeper or at least have a hipped cap but that doesn’t exist.

I tried to do a rounded longhouse design (a true penis of course) but the roof wont snap right. Did you put down a 2m horizontal post to help it anchor a good snap? Mine wants to just continue snapping to the adjacent roof piece in all the ways but correct for what I want.

If it's me you're asking, I built off a single vertical log pole. I attached four roof pieces at 90 degrees from each other, then filled the gaps with four more pieces turned 45 degrees from the two neighbors. I couldn't build by attaching a single piece, rotating one increment, then attaching the second because the snapping would go crazy. But if I did four a time it magically did the right thing with a little mouse wiggling.

For the second tier of roof pieces it was basically the same approach, just with a third tier of rotation.

Yeah you really have to be innovative with the snapping as it assumes too much or nothing at all sometimes and it can be maddening.

I ended up doing a little crosshatch design with the large 45 planks on the facade, so I will attempt the curved design again with this trick on the “back” end of my longhouse.

My first base is my most artistic and I love it. I didn’t flatten all of the area and only carved when necessary and then finished up the polishing job by replacing grass, etc.

My second base has been utilitarian and drab. Kind of sucks the life out of you as it is very “orcish” in that we burned the forest down to create it. It has all the upgrades, though, and is situated in a good port area to receive swamp and plains goods. I built it to be more “fort-like” so it very much reflects that with the circular design and spartan layout.

I want to spice it up but it will take a lot of artistic vision to do so.

This is a game of contrasts.

Last night I spent two hours sailing to finally circumnavigate my starting island and then I circumnavigated the shoreline of another island my buddies and I made our first landfall on after we got our first raft (but we didn’t go back to for reasons).

Turns put that very first island seems amazing. It is very thin but extremely long and looks like Argentina in shape. It has no less than six biomes including meadows, black forest, plains, swamp, mountain, and mist, and to top it all off it has a/the merchant right at a river inlet.

I cut across the inlet as I wanted to log off back “home” but this island expands nearly all the way to the south pole of the map already. I may venture to the extreme next time....

I need to build a portal to the merchant stat.

Now I can finally go fishing:haw:!

Ladders are really helpful when you can’t get a good snap angle.

The game’s economy scales with more players but I say, having 4 or so people help grind materials asynchronously is nice when it comes to a big synchronous session and getting real poo poo done.

I feel like I have the best deal as I have become the architect so I just build all day and my other friends seem to just destroy entire biomes by over-logging and over-mining until the landscape is like The Somme.

So we couldn’t beat bonass as a flursome because we were woefully undersupplied.

However before our attempt my buddy did a very daring solo journey into the mountains and found silver, obsidian, and killed / tamed wolves. We ended up getting wolf cloaks each so we can live there more comfortably.

I think we are going to brave the elements to skip iron for a lot of things and go straight to silver to annihilate bonemass next time.

Want to know how to game pathing? Build stairs, get mob to go up stairs, jump off stairs, remove a section of stair that leads to the ground: now the monster is stuck on the stairs. Unless it can “jump” like blobs or fenrirs, it will just be stuck.

Works super well.

I want to try this by using the raise ground/pickaxe while a monster is on a particular area.

Troll hide can take you all the way to the mountains. You’ll wan to upgrade then.

Use your bronze on weapons. When you make it to iron then upgrade armor.

This game is weird in that the armor you need and the weapons you need seem to be offset by a biome and they don’t necessarily match in the early to mid game.

It is also super easy to upgrade troll armor and the sneak is useful.

Plus it looks good.

Bronze armor looks dumb if only because you lose your hair wearing the helmet.
