Between the two of these I think I really have to try it now. It's starting to sound not too different from my Mema's preserved catfish, which wasn't great because it's home canned catfish in an oyster broth. But you put some vinegar and salt on it and it's food. Definitely a food.

I think we’ve cracked the case of why the mercury sample seemed appetizing to child-you :gonk:

It looks like terrible nachos with potato sticks from a can on top. And either cotija or farofa sprinkled on top.

Edit to add: pretty sure it’s nachos at a cheap restaurant or bar in Brazil.

I'm not sure about "timbale" but otherwise I'll say that translation is as weirdly worded as the original writing.

“Timbale” is okay, though it’s more usually used in English for cooked food made in a timbale pan rather than chilled aspics made in the pan.

Everything about this makes me want to weep.

I was just using the same adjective from mushy peas to draw a comparison between the different foodstuffs to show how grits or creamed corn could also very easily be seen as unappetising if you just focused on the fact they're a vaguely liquefied vegetable

Okay, but mushy peas are literally called “mushy peas” so I’m not sure the thought experiment was ideal?

I don’t like mint in peas of any kind, so that’s the source of my lack of interest in mushy peas rather than the texture

Black lumpfish roe is super delicious, but also really cheap because lumpfish are far more abundant than sturgeon, which is who the fancy caviar comes from. You can find it better and cheaper than the Romanoff brand from various online gourmet stores if you don’t have a local imported foods shop.

I'm still extremely jealous of her boiled eggs, I wish I could boil eggs that well.

Looks like she did it in an InstantPot or similar.

The secret to getting an egg like that on the stovetop is to start it in cold water, bring it to a full boil, let it boil for only one minute, then take the pan off the burner, cover the pan, and let it sit untouched for 6-8 minutes. Once you figure out the exact “let it sit untouched” time that applies to your eggs/your pan/your elevation above sea level, you can get them to come out exactly the same 90% of the time.
