Any advice for Alice? She's whipping my rear end.

Spam your dodge. Like in most high difficulty play in musou, you wind up darting in and out for attacks. Nail a combo and run to dodge the counterattack. You may have to (infuriatingly) fight the camera to keep it either zoomed out or tilted up to watch which attacks she's doing and plan accordingly. Don't be afraid to buy out the shops of healing items for both HP and SP and abuse it, and ensure you've gotten the latest personas fused.

Also look to go in swinging when she's paying attention to a party member rather than you.

You can just take a bunch of money, then summon and delete high level personas over and over to generate pp and level them in the velvet room. Way faster and you don’t have to play on merciless.

I just did this for a few personas. I felt like a fuckin moron, but I can tell i'm not going to play through this game a second time. Just turning money into pp like a Vegas gigolo.

That said, It's also at that point where it feels like you don't really need the extra power. By that point in the game you're used to the dodge-spam and attack interrupting. Which reminds me...

A helpful note about interrupting boss and miniboss attacks. Hitting a weakness by itself isn't what stops attacks. Breaking a shield does. And tougher enemies can require multiple weakness hits to break one shield, at which point you try to prime it by halfway breaking the shield and then saving it for when they start one of the attacks you have trouble with. Critical hits also do shield damage, even from basic attacks, but not as much as spells.

First Palace Jail done and I gotta say, Zenigata* took it far better than expected. Only what, 15 minutes of meltdown after getting his reality turned upside down and inside out? He probably took a drug test after the scene to double check but colour me impressed.

*Yes yes, he's Zenkichi, whatever.

Zenkichi is surprisingly good. He's such a dork.

I love not even 5 seconds after they try to explain he's all, "oooookay so WHO WANTS SOME DRUG TESTS? :buddy:"

Am I bad or is this game hard? Alice is absolutely kicking my rear end regardless of what I try

The gameplay is a bit hard at first. Really need an updated OP I think with new tips. Here's a few in case you haven't tried them.

Dodging is your friend. It has invincibility frames, but sometimes it's better to just use it to run out of enemy attack range. As infuriating as the camera is in trying to keep it high enough to see enemy attack names, you start learning boss patterns after a bit. Your allies will generally dodge attacks if you do.

Managing your shield breaks is a big part of boss fighting. They crack from weaknesses and crits, and the shield breaking is what interrupts attacks.

Unlike just about every other rpg out there, the game expects you to use your items. Money isn't really an issue, especially if you use bond skills to up the rate you get money. Don't be afraid to burn the 30 kinds of random food for a heal over your ally's Dia.

And finally, be sure to keep up on your persona fusing, getting the latest possible ones at your earliest opportunity. Don't be afraid to grind up a couple levels either early on. As for Alice herself, Save the party crackers for when she's on the center pole. In her second stage, it's more important than ever to dodge and run away. Save your attacks for when you get a shield break or when she's focused on someone else.

Thanks! I think I also keep trying to use the combo weaknesses and they just don’t really work against bosses? I’ll try to unload all my SP quickly and see how that works

Combo skills do hit weaknesses, but on a much lower scale. (The price of it being free, unfortunately) And if you're going to unload your sp, be sure to stock up on restoratives. First area has a vending machine with small sp restoring drinks that restock every time you return. And again, note your persona you're bringing. Anything with garu is good, and don't be afraid to bring along Mogana and Haru. so they can wail on said weaknesses.

Fixed that for you. I don't know enough about 1 or 2 to say if it applies there too, but the early game is the roughest because there's simply so little options.

Middle game you've got the fusion train going and lategame you've got Yoshitsune and other assorted "you win" buttons.

Can you go back to previous jails? First one has a lockpick level 2 chest but the skill is still capped at 1 for me. Did I miss something?

Absolutely. Up until the game goes 'uh oh this is the final thing make sure you got everything done.' Requests will unlock the skill caps.

I have to assume they got some experience on the translation side. Also just in general less content to translate compared to P5 proper, so they can go over it more with a fine tooth comb.

Congratulations to all of you clearing the first boss. It's a doozy, but things will get easier as you get the hang of combat.

Those look good, thanks Arist.

Just finished the game tonight, though I'm not clear on how you do new game +.

I enjoyed it. I could spend all day just encouraging Yusuke's eccentricities and trolling Ryuji. The writers did a good job (outside of a couple cringey exceptions) of writing the inter-party banter. Helps sell the whole 'group of goofy-rear end friends on a road trip' vibe of it.

I'd recommend making use of Ann and Ryuji if you can then until things start to shape up. Ann's Tarunda is extremely helpful and reasonably cheap, she can also throw out something like Marin Karin at later levels to lock enemies down for a while, and Ryuji is the bulkiest character by far.

As an aside, I'm fairly tickled that Marin Kirin is actually somewhat useful now that you have enough enemies on the field that locking them down is a viable alternative to just 'keep spewing damage and defense debuffs, cause everything worthwhile is immune'.

They kind of drop that theming halfway through. I'm not really sure why. It feels like some producer was slamming the table going "NO IT HAS TO BE THE DEADLY SINS, THATS WHAT MARKETING GRAPHS ARE SAYING AND THEYRE NEVER WRONG"
and then the team just shrugs, puts it in at first then stops when the guy stops looking at the development.

It's almost like the concept is so overused to the point of losing all meaning, and the writers only spending four seconds on google on what it meant.

I'm being harsh, but growing up with games and related media has developed a bitter taste for that. That and anytime anyone goes on about destiny.
