Empress Brosephine posted:I was expecting pure musoi but I'm surprised at how much of this is a rpg game Like, I keep comparing this to something like... Hyrule Warriors and I've been pretty impressed how they definitely wanted this a Persona 5 game first (even if not turned based) and a musou game second

Wait wait wait *minor cutscene spoilers mid-3rd Jail town* So a loving Persona game literally had a bath house scene that started with the cliche "omg look at your curves" and it doesn't... turn into one massive gag scene? The boys are just like "huh, alright" and move on to talking about other stuff and Sophie? In an Atlus game?

Doing the post 3rd dungeon scenes now and this is absolutely amazing, from Zenkichi essentially being Dojima if Nanako loving dunked on him repeatedly, to Akane's room reveal, to some pretty amazing dialogue from the "We are the Phantom Thieves." blunt answer to "Fist of the Phantom Channel" to Fukaba simultaneously making a Titanic and Whitney Houston joke. I do have to say, this game is having a lot more fun with the cast than I remember P5 doing, and I replayed it for Royal when that hit too.

This game is fun and pacing wise, actually a hell of a lot better than P5 was. Up to just entering the 6th Jail and an Ultraman reference was not what I was expecting out of Japanese Tony Stark

Morpheus posted:The structure of the game is really weird, given how the first three dungeons follow a particular sort of pace, in how you investigate, go in the jail, get three cores, get forcibly lkicked out at some point, then face the boss. Then, this is completely dropped for the dungeons afterwards except sort of Konoe's palace, which is still a lot more linear than the others so it's not like where you have a hub that branches off into the cores. The 6th jail definitely returns to this form though, probably on a little bit of steroids on the dungeon side of that. Speaking of the 6th jail (Late 6th jail spoilers): omg zenkichi's calling card

Finished the game and overall, I thought it was a fun experience overall. Combat isn’t winning any awards but it was functional enough to keep me playing and I felt the story/presentation was really good too. And this is the first Musou-like I finished let alone had some fun with. Hats off to the localization and dubbing crew too; there were a lot of legit funny jokes and really powerfully acted scenes

Blockhouse posted:Alice had a Lust for revenge WHHHOOOOOOOOO Also I feel like the seven deadly sins is such a corporate mandate that the game just flat out loving forgets about it eventually. Yeah, they tried to shoe-horn Hyodo into Wrath, but eventually it just... stops trying to really pigeon-hole its antagonists into that window

YoshiOfYellow posted:I admit I could be wrong on my angle here but I always kinda took it like this: Makoto is working towards being a cop less because she genuinely wants to (though I imagine there still is some genuine desire to follow her dad's footsteps) and more that she wants to incite change from the inside. It's still incredibly naive and in all likelihood it will go as well as you'd expect; she'll probably just get pushed out for trying to speak out against anyone or anything. Your angle is 100% correct; Makoto realizes the inherent corruption going in and wants to promote positive change from the get-go in her own way. But what will ultimately happen is something you mentioned; she'll get pushed out for trying to speak out or suggest changing the status quo. I get where Makoto is coming from (like hell, the starting point for why I personally became a lawyer was Phoenix loving Wright), but Zenkichi being like "it absolutely does not go down that way" really hit me; change is going to be buffeted by budget, or politics, etc. Hell, prior Persona characters tried this approach and ended up becoming cogs; Katsuya just wants to be a chef, Akihiko spends more time wrestling bears than doing actual police work, and... well.. I guess there's Chie if that pans out

BearDrivingTruck posted:On the other hand (post final boss) Ichinose turns herself in for her part in creating EMMA and is immediately let go because they think she's making things up There’s definitely got to be some people in the know, but it didn’t help things when Zenkichi cut her a break and told her that the police had better things to do than listen to fairy tales, so that buck probably stopped at whatever low ranking for officer she went to
