Oh, since it's easily overlooked:

This *does* have a NG+ including new bosses and a *much* higher difficulty (Joker can die in about 2 hits in the tutorial battle) but to get to it you need to defeat all of the late-game optional bosses. Just finishing the game isn't enough

I didn't know or forgot that there were new bosses in NG+? Can we talk about them with spoiler tags?
While I enjoyed the game a lot, later on I got kind of burned out by stuff like (post-game) the fact that you need to fight all the major bosses in the game 3 times (first in the main story, later for side-quest, third time for post-game side quest), just felt like sort of lazy re-use of content. Though I thought the game was a little easy overall so a bit curious to try a mode that forces you to engage more with the action aspect of the game.

Is there social stuff I should be doing after leaving jails to heal up? It just spawned me back in Leblanc and I went right back into it. Also, is there any reason to not just leave and heal up whenever possible? The game hasn't mentioned a timer or anything but I might have missed it I guess.

There's no life sim aspect similar to regular P5, but talking to your party members around town will sometimes give you side quests. There are no social links for individual characters but there's one overall social link for the group that will give you points that you can use to unlock various skills. Some little scenes with your party around town will level this up.
Also, the shops around town will restock after exploring the dungeon for a while, so it's a good idea to restock on items as they are always pretty scarce especially in the early game.
There's no time limits to be worried about.

took down the first jail boss on my first try. it wasent too tough as long as you dont get too greedy with your combos and you abuse the pole in the middle of the arena to spam the spinning attack. also if you can get the slime persona for joker it resists physical and has a wind attack that hits the boss weakness.

That's pretty good, she gave me a fair amount of trouble when I was starting out the game. She is actually arguably the hardest boss of the first half of the game or so if I recall, mostly because she moves very fast and most of the following bosses move slowly.

is it worth getting the DD edition for the legacy BGM DLC?

It's only Digital Deluxe in the English version? That sucks it was a free download for the Japanese version if I recall.
It's cool if you are a long time fan of the series (it even has a remix of the original PS1 Persona battle theme), and gives you a variety of battle tracks so that the battle music never gets old or repetitive.

My biggest complaint with the dungeons is that they are very formulaic. There are three things to collect to get to the final door, every single time (I mean, maybe this changes but I'm through three dungeons and this has been the case). P5 had some real variety to the nature of the palaces and what you had to do to progress, so that part has been kind of disappointing.

This is sort of not true for the rest of the game in the sense that the "full size" dungeons follow this formula, and many of the other dungeons are considerably shorter but also more straightforward.

Since you can switch party members freely without leaving the dungeon IIRC, when exploring dungeons I found it a good tactic to switch people out for the B-team when they ran out of SP.

Played a year ago in the Japanese version and not going to play through again in English just now but curious about a minor translation thing.
In the Japanese version, when you go to different cities and use Sophia's shop she will use stock phrases in the local dialect of whatever region you are currently in. Did they try to do anything with this in the English version?

Kind of a random note but since several people have gotten far into/finished the game by now I will mention it. I always enjoy the sort of dream logic that the Persona series uses for cognitive versions of characters, locations etc. ever since the first game in the series. For me the single coolest story related detail in this game was (Dungeon 5 spoilers) how Akane's cognitive versions of the Phantom Thieves that you encounter in the Kyoto dungeon appear as entirely black silhouettes, because she has only seen the phantom thieves in disguise as part of their calling card videos in the original game where they only revealed themselves as black silhouettes. And they aren't straight up opposite/evil versions, nor are they Shadows in the usual sense, but instead Akane's own ideal of the Phantom Thieves that she's projected her own desires for revenge on, that would have somewhat different objectives and morals than the real Phantom Thieves. I thought it was a fairly neat twist on the usual "fight an evil doppelganger of your character(s)" trope that has been done so many times in video games and the Persona series itself. Overall it was a neat expansion of themes of the Phantom Thieves' relationship with their followers from the original P5. Honestly it was probably more interesting, conceptually, than much of the rest of the main plot of the game.

Boo at Sophia's codename. No companion of humanity worth its salt should be cool with changing one letter and calling it a day

Yes it's pretty lame, though I suppose they don't even really need to conceal her identity with a codename in the Jails, since basically nobody outside of the Phantom Thieves even knows that she exists to begin with.

It makes me wish more persona games just start out with people knowing each other before the game started.

Funny enough I guess Persona 1 and 2 mostly qualify for this.

"Creature" is maybe Monster Energy?
I think it's maybe too dated to include in a game now, but my favorite was in Persona 3 with "Cylon Tea" where the description said "there are 12 known varieties".
This is a cool post, I imagine it must have been a difficult localization to work with due to all the cultural references to different regions of Japan.

Eiha/Kouha light/dark effects were in Persona 1 and made a return appearance in 5 along with Nuclear from 1 and 2.

As confusing as the SMT spell names can be for first-time players, I think it was actually more confusing in the one game where they gave the spells English names in the English localization (the original PS1 version of Persona 1). In that game most of the spells had really similar names like Ray, Flash, Blast, and Nuke and it was hard to tell what element they were and which one was stronger than the other. There was a nuclear element but "Nuke" wasn't a nuclear spell, it was the name for the Megido almighty line. Made more confusing by the fact that enemy weaknesses weren't directly mentioned when analyzing, and they instead had vaguely worded Pokemon-style types written out instead IIRC.

"Joker's Kitchen", Okinawa edition

Nice series you have going there, Okinawa soba is great and Orion beer is a nice touch.
Not sure if you are able to get the ingredients there, but if you end up making goya champloo be sure to soak the bitter melons in water for 10-30 minutes to remove some of the bitter flavor depending on your tastes. Otherwise it will be pretty awfully bitter. I love it when normally cooked but had a pretty bad one once at a restaurant where they probably didn't soak it at all.

No you don't. You can revisit any of the previous Jails at any time (just not the real-world towns they are in), and you can come back to them in postgame if you want.

More specifically, the phrase "it's cause you be on that phone" is a joke mocking hackneyed blaming of phone overuse by stuff like Black Mirror and the like.

Yeah back when I first played the game it occurred to me that it's basically what you would get if the Persona writing staff (or really any JRPG writing staff) had to write an episode of Black Mirror.
