Really looking forward to this but I do hope they milk Persona 5 a bit more. I know ArcSys is busy with Guilty Gear Strive right now but they made the excellent Persona 4 Arena games and I've been hoping that we see a Persona 5 Arena at some point. I think this might be wishful thinking at this point since by the time they manage to complete development and release the game it may be too late. Then again Persona 6 is obviously a long way off so who knows? That's what I'd love to see and I suspect Strikers is likely a result of ArcSys being too busy right now to have made a Persona Arena game.

The reviews I've seen have all been great however, so I'm excited to play this and I like the premise for the story.

I liked P4 Arena but I like fighting games and I like persona. Imo it’s the totally wrong fit for such a story heavy game that wants to continue the story, and 2d fighters are increasingly a kind of niche genre (especially with arcades being 100% dead even in japan thanks to covid)

A warriors game makes sense for this kinda thing because it’s actiony but not actiony enough to turn off people who only play RPGs. I hope this is good! Gonna get it on switch

Am I bad or is this game hard? Alice is absolutely kicking my rear end regardless of what I try

The gameplay is a bit hard at first. Really need an updated OP I think with new tips. Here's a few in case you haven't tried them.

Dodging is your friend. It has invincibility frames, but sometimes it's better to just use it to run out of enemy attack range. As infuriating as the camera is in trying to keep it high enough to see enemy attack names, you start learning boss patterns after a bit. Your allies will generally dodge attacks if you do.

Managing your shield breaks is a big part of boss fighting. They crack from weaknesses and crits, and the shield breaking is what interrupts attacks.

Unlike just about every other rpg out there, the game expects you to use your items. Money isn't really an issue, especially if you use bond skills to up the rate you get money. Don't be afraid to burn the 30 kinds of random food for a heal over your ally's Dia.

And finally, be sure to keep up on your persona fusing, getting the latest possible ones at your earliest opportunity. Don't be afraid to grind up a couple levels either early on. As for Alice herself, Save the party crackers for when she's on the center pole. In her second stage, it's more important than ever to dodge and run away. Save your attacks for when you get a shield break or when she's focused on someone else.

Thanks! I think I also keep trying to use the combo weaknesses and they just don’t really work against bosses? I’ll try to unload all my SP quickly and see how that works

Ok I baaaarely beat it!

That really was a very Persona first boss. I was literally down to only Sophia who doesn’t have a way to hit weakness (brought her to heal) and no SP and just dodged around hitting her until I had showtime up

Also is it just me or is the translation / writing in this game so far way better than Persona 5? I didn’t play Royal which apparently was better but the base game often felt like it had lines they just forgot to translate

Where has all your money gone? Are you vending all the trash from jails?

Personas are so cheap and the game sprays cash at you so constantly after the first dungeon that this should never be an issue.

Gear is so expensive! I'm in Jail 2 and I still have some party members in their default stuff but if you wanna swap around party members instead of stick with 4 it feels like you have to be undergeared

Equipment is good but weapons are not a priority. You can upgrade armour periodically, but I've rarely felt the 'if I don't give Ann a piece of armour for the next dungeon she's donezo'.

After you hit Jail 3, you start getting quests that can be repeated for cash. I never go out of my way to repeat them but since it's a 'these things occasionally drop from named enemies' they're a nice 'oh right, lemme check if I can do an instant turn-in'.

Keeping a healthy stock of items is more important. Cooking will help supplement that so you want to make sure you keep on top of revive pills/SP restores/ingredients.

I think it was more I was surprised at how quick some of the party members die in fights (and yes they had default gear) and I just wasn't sure if it was because I needed more armor for everyone.

How does experience work for people in the back? Should I be rotating party members? Sometimes I settle into a group that works well together with lots of common weaknesses in the dungeon and I just sit on them

Okay, so wait- I'm still on the first dungeon, but it looks like time doesn't pass when you leave jail? So is there any reason to not constantly bounce out to refill HP/SP, then dive back in?

Very small reason to not leave but you lose your "Showtime" gauge entirely. So if you have like, 4 showtimes built up and leave for an SP boost they all reset back to 0.

But I generally leave a couple of times throughout the dungeon, go shop for new equipment, fuse new persona with the money I got etc.

You could just jump back in immediately but the dungeons are pretty long and it's worth leaving to do some of that stuff.

It seems to be set at around 33% of the active party exp gain, based on rough observations when I was switching characters in and out to rounding everyone out to 99 in the postgame.

Are there any party members you won't really miss out too much if you just ignore them forever? I feel like there are too many
