Best meal was usually whatever was served hot in the canteen after a week or two in the field.

The worst - the absolute worst - was canned veal hearts in cream. Eaten cold. And warm. It was BAD at any temperature. You could taste it for days afterwards. In fact, I'm tasting it right now and I haven't eaten it for 23 years. Bleh.
