We thought he was a purely partisan hack, but it looks like he is a true believer in his bizarre world view. It's still a right-wing world view, but it does mean his rulings are much, much more than the blind "R's always good, D's always bad" we feared.

During the Trump admin one of the leading architects of said philosophies straight up published an article saying "these were just political ploys but now that McConnell and Trump stacked the judiciary we can impose fascism from the bench".

But a generation of conservative lawyers have grown up studying these interpretation philosophies and taking them at face value. So sometimes they'll miss the part about being a fig leaf and apply them in ways that are not immediately what conservatives want. That's why on one hand you have Alito nakedly choosing the most conservative position possible but Gorsuch giving half of Oklahoma back to the tribes because that's the literal wording of the treaty.

But this is exactly what I mean. Because they are actual believers in the ideology instead of being partisan, it sets the GOP back because the ideology allows for progressive steps to be taken. They aren't obstructionist, they actually want whats (they believe) is best for the country. Its not ideal, but otoh it's handed the transgender movement a bigger win than we ever got under a progressive court.

Yeah, should have been more comedic if they were casting Perry. Like Dave Foley as Yes Man. When Benny is a captive in the Legion fort he just sounded bored which lowered the stakes about whether to free him.
