So how much money did Hall cost himself signing a one year deal in Buffalo? $20m?

Still laughing about how he won the Hart.

Man he's gonna be so sick on the Oilers(again)

Hall is a weird one. He won a Hart pretty much all alone in New Jersey but has been somewhat underwhelming with two of the best centres on earth in McDavid and Eichel. He's still a top quality player, but aged 30 and looking like a guy who's not going to elevate his linemates I'm sure a lot of teams are hesitating on him. He might well be a one year reclamation project for like $6m next summer and there were rumours 25 teams were talking with him when free agency opened in October. Boy has betting on himself sure not worked out this year.

Also lol

The season McDavid and Hall were both on the Oilers, Hall mostly played with Leon, who was still developing and like 75 minutes total 5v5 with McDavid.

Dave Tippett is not a good coach if he refuses to make adjustments (and not make bad line-up decisions) to try and avoid having this happen.

Dave Tippett is a good coach what the hell is this nonsense.

The roster isn't great!

Tippett was double shifting McDavid to try and get him away from Brodie and Kerfoot, swapping wingers, swapping D-Pairings.

Like what else is there when your best options are to insert Kyle Turris or James Neal????

If you think Tippett is blameless for the Oilers only being able to score 1 goal in a 3 game series against the Leafs despite having two of the best players in the league, then one of those best players tells the media "they had us figured out pretty good" (which means they failed to adjust their systems to counter the way the Leafs were defending them, which was very obvious tonight), then I don't know what to tell you that'd change your blind loyalty

Its not a playoff series, its 3 games mid way through a mostly successful season where their xgf% is over 50% and their PP is outscoring their PK.

Yes it sucks to lose those 3 that way, but its not a playoff series, and the roster stinks. What exactly do you think they should do beyond what Tippett was doing? You can't just say "change the system" cause that means sweet gently caress all.

The Oilers aren't winning the cup this year, its a season to grow a bunch of the young guys (JP, Kailer, Jones, Bear, Bouchard, Nurse somewhat) and see where they fit for the next few years. Its too bad they can't use the minors for recalls cause we could also have McLeod and Benson up to see if they can stick, maybe Holloway as well. They have cap space this summer and hopefully the window truly opens next season when the wingers can actually finally hopefully be filled in properly. Chiarelli salted the fuckin earth, this season and last have been good in spite of all the damage that was done prior to last season. If you can't see that as Tippett being a good coach, I'm not sure what someone can say about it.

Its not blind loyalty, its realizing the Oilers situation for what it is.

Ya they'd probably make either team eat 30-40% of those contracts + give up a really good player.

Darude - Adam Sandstorm
Aug 16, 2012

Reilly Smith was making HALF of what Bob and Price are making and it took Marchessault going with him to dump that contract in a world with salary cap increases. And Smith was still good, just the Panthers were cheap and run by an idiot.

Like it'd take Suzuki or Huberdeau to dump Bob or Price.

They should just give the #1 pick to whichever team has the longest active streak of missing the playoffs, or make the lottery between those teams if there is a tie. It would allow for a team to build a solid core over a few years and might make for an interesting churn of who sits at the top of the league if given long enough to root. Of course this is the NHL so there is no way this will ever happen.

Hate teams that tank for a year? Well wait until they tank for 5 baby!!!

I don't trust Benning to get anything close to a worthwhile return on Schmidt, but if there's a good offer out there move him he's nearly 30. He's been our most consistent defenceman this year, so if he stays put its no big deal. I doubt anyone is offering a first round pick and a prospect with that contract.

I don't think they should trade him at least until the offseason, I just think its hilarious that they "aren't interested in going backwards". The amount of self delusion in that room must be incredible to behold.

Wait why the gently caress are there Nate Schmidt trade rumours? That's completely out of left field. I mean, Vancouver wants to keep their few actual good defensemen right? Did this start because Jimbo needs to clear even more cap space to re-sign Pearson to a 5x5 or something?

I think its more that the team needs a legit teardown but there's almost nothing of value to trade out aside from the handful of players that are actually good and young enough to be part of the next core. IF you tear it down, Schmidt is too old to be on the next supposed good team.
