Villa probably won't get in a relegation fight this season, a feat not seen since Mr O'Neill was in charge

So what's happening at West ham then. Usually I'd have read a dozen articles about an unfashionable team having a good season but it feels like the entire media haven't looked at the table and realised that they've gone from 16th last season to still knocking on the door of Europe despite seemingly having changed nothing. Admittedly I don't follow them closely so did they replace Moyes with a robot or what

Seems like all the managers who played under Ferguson have only remembered the "Be an utter oval office" bits of his managerial style.

Bogan Krkic posted:the czech lads are really good and michail antonio has done a bale and turned from a bad fullback into a world class striker In fairness he was only a fullback occasionally and believe it or not he's only scoring a little bit more quickly as a striker than he was as a supposed winger. Soucek is a big part of the picture, but you can't discount the Lazarus-like recovery of Aaron Cresswell (and the fact that we now actually practice set-pieces) as well as the massive factor of not having a completely poo poo goalkeeper - when Fabianski got injured we were mid table and looking not too bad in games that Carlos Sanchez was a safe distance from the pitch, by the time David Martin came in like the ginger messiah we were 18th. Honestly the main reason we were in 4th was Moyes parked the bus in the Death March that was our early season (all of last season's top six in our first 9 games) meaning over winter we could just beat up the bottom half of the table while the top half burned down around us. As the games in hand are shaking out we're probably going to end the month in 6th or 7th and TBH that's a fair position for a team that's still entirely dependent on Mickey Tony's hamstrings and people continuing to not understand what Jarrod Bowen's whole deal is.

goddamnedtwisto posted:the massive factor of not having a completely poo poo goalkeeper This really can't be said enough, if it wasn't for Roberto we never would have been near relegation last season either. The fact that someone other than 900 year old Mark Noble now plays next to big Deccers really helps too, Soucek is great but any player with legs in central midfield would have improved the team a whole lot

blue footed boobie posted:What exactly does a technical director do, anyway? Technical directors manage a club's technical, i.e. actually football related affairs op. Basically it comes down to buying and selling players. Not having a technical director and instead having your manager who is only there for 1-3 seasons decide on transfer is dumb as poo poo, so of course the prem still has sides without technical directors.
