the sex ghost posted:So what's happening at West ham then. Usually I'd have read a dozen articles about an unfashionable team having a good season but it feels like the entire media haven't looked at the table and realised that they've gone from 16th last season to still knocking on the door of Europe despite seemingly having changed nothing. Admittedly I don't follow them closely so did they replace Moyes with a robot or what Fabianski fit. Some tall lads in midfield. The Lingard effect (retroactive).

goddamnedtwisto posted:I thought technical directors were in charge of player training and development, with transfers done by a Director of Football? Technical directors tend to be in charge of managing the staff rather than in charge of the players. But there's no single definition, it's just words on a business card/linkedin profile.

Wilf Bony was good for Swansea. His eldest son is playing for our u18s now.

He wasted a crazy amount of money not improving their team. Lunatic if he think he should be allowed to keep the squad together. His tactic has been sussed anyway.

Villa are spending like crazy they're not the standard expectation. Wilder spent £120m on players in two seasons.

Eric Cantonese posted:Rhian Brewster was good at Swansea and I think Wilder latched on to that, but it doesn't seem like Sheffield had any plan for the guy and it was not a good fit. They got rinsed on the fee, though due to post Neymar/Coutinho inflation. I've typed up a few of those before. Brewster for us was a pure poacher who got goals out of nowhere while the team was doing badly. It wasn't until we switched to wingbacks and two up front that we could start playing as the undroppable Brewster couldn't hold the ball up, wasn't quick enough to run in behind etc. Andre Ayew did all the heavy lifting in the push to the playoffs. Klopp said as much when the press pushed him on it after one of those preseason games where Brewster scored. He had no future at Liverpool as he can't do half the work a top side needs from a striker. High level finisher, League One level everything else. Not his fault, he missed years of football since the u17s world cup win when people got overexcited (he's not grown an inch since being one of the biggest lads on that team lol).

UnderFreddy posted:unusually poo poo comment from you, Sassassin. It's easy to spend 120m on players in the prem, but when you can't afford to pay those players real wages (because the transfer and wage budget are *wildly different in the rel world*), you're stuck with the dross of the dross. It was largely the same thing with Bournemouth He spent £120m and only one player improved the team he had from the Championship, some of whom joined in League One. Like Howe with Bournemouth he got completely suckered by the Liverpool academy marketing engine. Some managers can't handle having a warchest, and do much better working to a strict budget.
