Might get this just to see what Forbes Field would do to modern MLB

Forget Forbes.

I have some old clips of John Goodman messing around with the Braves in 1992 spring training, though I don't think he got an at-bat during a game. Goodman had just filmed The Babe.

thanks guys, I'll probably just give them away on craigslist

When I was a kid (I was born in 1982), the one set I always remember as having really high book value was 1992 Bowman, was it just not produced much?

baseballcardpedia posted:

After a disastrous 1989 debut, a lackluster 1990 effort, and an improved 1991 offering, Topps upgraded the 1992 version of Bowman to place it (quality wise) on par with their Stadium Club brand. All cards were printed on white, UV-coated cardstock, with full color fronts and backs. More importantly, Topps drastically cut production by printing '92 Bowman to order; a decision many dealers who threw away their order forms would later regret.

Also, the Mike Piazza card in the set.

I don't ever remember seeing any Bowman packs in 1992 and I was all over baseball cards then.

That may be the most perfect logo I've ever seen.

Except maybe the Biscuits.

Should have never awarded it to Atlanta to begin with because of the stadium bullshit.

(That's every team, of course.)

If Canada will take it, move the ASG game there.

Polo. I remember there being a stink a few years ago because someone taught urban kids how to play and they were competitive with the rich kids.

I saw a game at the Trop in 1998. It felt like a slightly bigger basketball arena, but I can't recall much on specifics, other than parking was horrible.

The Devil Rays did have a sweet deal that for $20 (or $25) you could buy an inaugural game program, T-shirt and poster. Still have all of them somewhere.

Dodgers' crimes.xls made me think of Kevin Maitan, who was going to be a top-notch prospect and was stripped from Atlanta in the Coppollela mess.

Before covid, Maitan never got above A-ball for the Angels. He didn't exactly tear up the Venezuelan Winter League last year, either.

Atlanta has called up Sean Kazmar.

He hasn't been in the big leagues since 2008. Poor dude's been toiling in the minors ever since.

Rainout in Atlanta, 7-inning doubleheader tomorrow. Figure shaving a few innings off the bullpen workload and giving Smyly another day probably doesn't hurt them.

I don't think there's a dry spot in Georgia right now. Holy cow, has it rained and stormed all day.

Braves got utterly wiped out in a home doubleheader against the Dbacks today, managing one single hit in 14 innings without coming even close to scoring a run. The second game in particular (with the Braves' supposedly stronger lineup of the day) was over before the Braves even came up to bat, and it would've been a 7-inning perfect game if not for one error that got immediately cancelled by a double play.

Pretty clear something's gonna have to give.

The pitching hasn't been there, except for Anderson, and the offense didn't look like it gave a poo poo today. Ozuna came crashing down to earth after last year and Swanson's never going to be the guy he's capable of being.

It was either Old Busch, Riverfront or both where the field temperature could get up to 120 degrees. Those old carpet turfs everybody used to use were horrible.
