Goons I know there is a separate area to post this but at heart I’m a GBS kind of guy and figure this is the centralized area of these forums. I’ve been using an AirPort Extreme for quite some time and I’m thinking my old trusted device may be on its way out. I have Spectrum and upgraded to a faster internet connection but doubt my old dinosaur is allowing me to really get the speeds I’m paying for. I also have a 2 story house and need something that can get a little bit of range along with the speed. any recommendations my brother and sister goons? Spectrum provided the modem and it has WiFi but I’ve tried it and it doesn’t seem to have the punch as far as range goes.

Okay OP Im going to step out of clown mode for a second and level with you here. Some people are going to be saying the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 is the router to go with. On paper sure I can see the appeal but when you know its context and dig deep into its specs youre going to be sorely disappointed, this thing has only HALF the bit throughput of some of the other models and around eight antennas which as everyone knows only works with systems octagonal threading capabilities. This is not the router for you my friend. What you want is a router with long standing industry support and which will work with all of the devices you plan on connecting it with, as well as the one thats going to be the best deal for your pocketbook amirite? Im going to suggest to you the Linksys EA6350 AC1200+ Dual-Band Smart Wi-Fi Wireless Router. Now bear with me now it may not look like much but if I break this down i think youre going to find the Linksys has everything you need with additional benefits that make this purchase a no-brainer! Firstly this router has the gigawatt throughput like no others, streaming is exceptionally easy and because of the ghost ports there are a lot more sites you can load through this. Remember Ask Jeeves? This router can still get you there for instance, and dont even get me started on the sheer volume of porn sites this router will support. My god man you'll be rubbed raw within a week. Secondly with only two antennas its threading capabilities can be divided up evenly across the board (As opposed to 8 antennas or god forbid some odd numbered ones like three antennas), so you know your devices are compatible right from the start. Thirdly is the mail in rebate, which most people foolishly ignore. Mailing in that rebate and they will send you a Dennys gift card for $50 and 1-month subscription to YouTube TV. So as you can see you came to the right place, i hope you enjoy your router!

Idk maybe it’s spectrum that’s lovely. They dig up the same sections of road here every other day and bury increasingly wider conduit, think it’s up to 5 inch wide cable now. I heard some guy got caught with blasting caps and ordinance in his work truck and some councilman got popped on conspiracy. It’s like they can’t pipe a signal anymore.

Ok op this is the kind of amateurish buffoonery i was trying to warn you about, a quadrupler will quad your packet transfer speed but isnt going to do jack poo poo for your IP synchronization. Don't even get me started on the latency that bringing a flipper into the mix will cause. Op how technically savvy are you? You might not need to upgrade at all. if you can go into your BIOS, reconfigure it as a TRIOS, and clear your traffic you should see a significant performance increase. Just make sure not to cache port 8008, and never enable 5g connectivity or your system is all but guaranteed to be flooded with viruses.

I recently threw away my asus ac1900 thing for a $50 mikrotik router and a $100 ubiquiti lite AP and I wish I'd done it years ago because it solved a bunch of weird crap I'd been dealing with with torrents and streaming and wifi and the leg of my network that's behind moca adapters

Don’t buy a router now. AX+ routers are coming out, which’ll probably drive down the prices on AX routers. Then also don’t buy an AX router still. Don’t buy any router. Don’t buy anything. Illimitable, gauzy layers of lived experience cling to us, dragging against the ground in the narrow corridor of existence as we trudge toward its exit. Why add to the considerable weight of life you already bear? I am so tired.

My big problem with routers is that i apply too much tool pressure and end up blowing out the ball bearings. Really, my main issue is my lack of patience. If I was a more careful craftsmen, i wouldn't have this problem. Regardless of what router you go for, just make sure to check out the maximum radial load on the bearings so if you lean too hard into the wood when you're routing an edge or a dovetail, you'll have enough give you to make up for sloppy craftsmanship

I got a TRENDnet AC2600 MU-MIMO you can have for the price of a flat rate box. I bought it then never used it because I got fiber instead of cable and the company router works great.

the real answer is to cobble together a rack from off-lease pro business networking equipment and then fiddle with it constantly because it never quite works correctly and your wife gets mad and tells you to just go get a router at best buy even though you repeatedly insist "this is better i promise", which coincidently is also what you'll say to yourself while sitting in your studio apartment after the divorce
