I'm guessing the 100 minion limitation was purely for the sake of the game being able to not chug on low-end computers on release. Though, what annoyed me the most in the first game was that hotels were completely useless money sinks and actively harmful when John Steele shows up.

The tourists almost always ignored my hotels and chose to walk into the base/panic because they saw a closed door. Sure were good for keeping my valets tied up though :v:

What I liked doing was having a backdoor into a lethal trap hallway so my minions could clean it out without constantly running through the path leading to the traps.

EG1 was pretty half baked. the most glaring example is there were tourists, and there were hotels, and obviously you should be able to leverage tourists for funding and cover... but this didn't happen. tourists just showed up to wander around and blunder into traps, and you could build hotels as a distraction, or you could just go permanent hostile and task your valets with distracting the tourists. or once you're on high heat in the end game, just murder them

Yeah the whole "make agents waste time until they go home" thing made sense on paper, but in practice just ended with seven agents standing around confused blocking my entrance door open and allowing more people to just waltz inside :cripes: it's so much easier to just stay at yellow alert and have your guards light up anyone not wearing a jumpsuit even if you WANT to run a low heat stealth base

good luck to the tourists finding the correct entrance to my base, as opposed to all of the stub tunnels that are just six doors one after another, or all the sheds littering the outside that are nothing but a permanently locked high security door behind which is an attention trap

i remembered now that building hotels is actually a liability, as then it draws your valets out of the base to get murdered

Been eyeballing this game a bit since I loved the concept of EG1, but actually playing it felt cumbersome. In particular, the world domination portion was very frustrating. It was no fun waiting for a particular minion to get trained up which took forever due to low minion limit, generally slow and unresponsive minion AI (waiting for both the teacher and student minion to free up their schedule), and then the actual training process. Naturally after waiting like 30-60 minutes for all this to happen, you send them out on a quest and they fail it and likely all get killed in the process, causing you to repeat everything. All these things feel like timers that bad phone games have today.

It seems they've upped the minion limit as a baseline, and I hope with the new world domination system consuming minions means it's a guaranteed success at least.

Yeah as someone with a hundred or so hours on the original game and another couple dozen on the steam re release I can say that you can easily do whatever you want (including beat the game) without ever touching the casino building functions of the game. In fact, they just seemed to cost a shitload of money so you could have valets stand out there like morons while tourists keep kramering into your base

One strategy I used in EG1 was building sheds all over and putting level three doors on them. Agents seemed to be more interested on higher level doors and wasted most of their island timeslot on these pointless doors.

I am not actually sure if this was useful strategy but it certainly felt like it.

Well already something the new game has fixed. Your Casino cover operation, along with being the place your deceptions minions will tend to hang out to distract people, can have it's devices be set to one of two things.

Reducing Enemy Agents stats, so they go home without reporting anything, or at the very least don't notice the traps in the hallway when they sneak in. Or Scamming Tourists for money.

On the second island where there was room for it, I always did that except it was one massive tunnel carved into the opposite end of my island from where I was actually doing stuff. The tunnel contained nothing but doors, intelligence traps and more doors. This was usually a good spot to put the Intelligence Draining Bees, since they'd just get trapped with the agents inside of all the doors.

This is why I have have set up several stations and cameras of different types. So the Alarm will only send out smaller groups unless the agents are father in then I would like.

This time round they've said that if agents continue to go missing and not report back, that'll raise heat. So it sounds like the style of just incinerating everything that isn't yours probably won't work.

I hope not, that seems a bit too robotic and like ticking boxes. I'd prefer that they instead make training more streamlined, though not too much that it cheapens the idea of having to minions up through the tiers - too streamlined and you may as well set a quantity for each type and they walk out of a portal without any thought behind it, which completely undoes any idea of minion specialisation and skill trees for them. Alternatively, increasing the relative size of the rewards for acts of infamy would work, so that the reward for completing it is worth more than the cost including of the % that fail. That way, achieving one is worth the effort of sending minions out, losing some, etc. and they then have much more gravity in the game.

AoI are a major part of the game, and I felt they were too shallow in EG1. I hope there's more depth there.

Something I liked about EG1 was the concept of "scouting" for Acts of Infamy. It was fairly shallow, but it was kind of fun finding the really hidden ones. So yea I really hope they do something about the world map to make it engaging without making it a chore.

From checking it looks like you have to get Broadcast Strength from building your radio's to build a criminal network in a region. The Networks can then be strengthened by collecting intel from captured agents I think. Which will expose more schemes. Also it looks like some schemes are stuff like Steal lots of money or reduce your heat in the region.

I like Zalika's style, it's very Mars Attacks. I'm leaning towards her for a first playthrough, maybe with the robot girl for maximum Science! And it's good to see Red Ivan is back considering he was basically a meme in the first game with how much he destroyed your own base all the time.

Who was everyone's favorite Henchmen in the first game? I remember the Butcher was the best in combat since one of his attack animations was him wildly chopping and each chop counted as a separate hit. Him vs Jet Chan was always an epic showdown determined by how often that animation got used. Psycho Granny was very fun too.

I recently played the first Evil Genius again to refresh my memory. What irked me about the original was that you always had to put your whole base on alarm if you wanted minions to arm themselves. There was not way to split the alarm states into zones, that would allow you to have areas like your inner sanctum and control centre to be high security areas, where every minion is armed and kills intruders on sight. While setting the outer zones to green, for less heat. I wonder if the new game changes that.

IMO the solution to this would be that your guards and mercenaries would also carry pistols/revolvers along with batons and knives on them at all times. Though, I would change the yellow jumpsuit minion so instead of going to the armories for handguns, they'd be arming themselves with submachine guns from there. After all, you look at an old bond film and practically every low-level lackey is armed with an MP40, Sten or Sterling.

Agent X looks like a guy that will be a constant annoyance with his ability to escape, and turn invisible. With a large lair it also seems like it will be harder to locate him to deal with him, if he vanishes from the minimap too while invisible.

Olga seems like Dirk Masters but a bit more dangerous, cause she also comes with a squad of soldiers rather then solo.

I'm going Max for my first EG2 play through as he was also my go to for EG1.
As for henchmen I also liked Red Ivan, but Eli Barracuda was my favorite just because of his one shot ability, made cleaning up errant agents easy.

Probably going to go Max first. My favorite Henchman was Lord Kane, but that was more due to an exploit then anything else. (Namely if you pick a target for smooth operator one of his abilities. His target freezes in place and will wait for him to arrive, and won't do anything until he finishes doing his ability. Giving you a map wide stun for any super agent.)

You can still play a deception heavy Red Ivan game. He gets bonuses to his Muscle minions, but his deception minions are still just as good as the other geniuses (Minus Emma's, who are better.)
