Some characters base their decisions on who to go after based on whether or not they like you. If someone like Kukrushka is doubting you for no good reason, a visit at night might take the heat off. Some events won't trigger unless the person in question likes you, so the visits at night can help with that too. My recommendation is to always go for the event icons when they come up, especially early on when it's more likely to be a crew data event or skill unlock.
