Where once historical or scientific realities would at best be twisted or ignored, now they are nakedly turned into whatever convenient fiction necessary. It's not embarrassing not to know Puerto Rico is part of the US, it's just another ideological snipe to cater to their base. Once political parties are irreconcilably at each other's throats, people become the same way - and vice versa. Its utter gridlock and nobody can see even a glint of light at the end of the tunnel. It will take decades to undo the damage to politics and society as a whole, and not only is that process not even begun, it's simply getting worse.

It also seems like there's a certain built-in comfort that this situation affords in that if nothing moves in either direction, neither side feels like they're losing. A lot of people would prefer a guaranteed stalemate over gambling on things getting subjectively (depending on "side") better or worse.

So the chart would look a hell of a lot different if it was by total deaths caused by [ethnicity of shooters] rather than single perpetrators of shootings with victims between 4 and infinity.

That's probably only going to account for Black people seeming overrepresented and bring the stats more in line with demographics than they already are.
