They can reboot after their 600th episode which is still on track for Valentine's Day 2022.

That they write legit good songs at the end of it makes me so happy. I've had Big Veg one on regular rotation, it's great. https://letsmakeamusic.bandcamp.com/track/wake-up-for-big-veg

Also I assumed the Appalachian Woodworking thing was an April Fool's joke. Was pleasantly surprised by the episode! Good stuff.

That episode was a real miss for me. Spending five minutes talking about wood glues at the most basic level isn't funny, interesting, or informative. And then apply that sentence to the 40 other minutes.

But cool that others enjoyed it. I enjoyed the song.

Apparently the new TAZ is a total mess. They forgot to put in the Gary recap so it's just like a minute of dead silence and gary music. Travis telling characters what they're feeling. Pointlessly easy boss battles. Lots and lots of NPCs

Really runs the whole gamut of problems with Graduation.

The good news is that it's this one->finale->TTAZZ->new campaign that Griffin has been developing. Hopefully they can right the ship with the next one because I'd love to start listening again but man.. I just can't do it with Graduation

that's such good news lol

been waiting for confirmation about when this would finally end, since Griffin's been openly talking about writing the new campaign (though I don't think he said much other than it'd d&d and it somehow involves sailing/the ocean/ships)

I have made some attempts to get into TAZ in the past, but I started with graduation and well... it didn't stick.

Does anyone have a recommendation for how to get into TAZ? Which campaign or episode should I start on?

the first campaign starts off 100% goofy with a premade module, hits its stride comedically with the second arc (murder on the rockport ltd) and then only gets serious at the end. if you'd prefer goofs that's the place to start

the second campaign is them playing monster of the week, so not dungeons and dragons, and I honestly think is pretty solid after the first episode or so. if you'd like a little more rp and a little less dnd fighting, that's a good start

Just start with "Balance" which is their first campaign. After the first few episodes it moves away from the original D&D module and into entirely custom content, and then shoots off like a rocket ship from there.

Murder on Rockport LTD (arc 2 of Balance I believe), Pedals to the Metal (arc 3) and the uh.. time loop one who's name I forget (which I believe is arc 5) are the stand out parts for me. Arc 4 and Arc 6 are pretty ok, Arc 7 is really hit or miss imo, I didn't really like it. The finale really stuck the landing for me though so it's all worth it!

Amnesty (campaign 2) is worth a listen if you're into the more monster of the week/buffy-ish kinda thing. But there's a few parts that just didn't work for me so I eventually fell off. And uh.. Graduation is.. well.. yeah

Thanks! gonna start at the beginning. It might seem obvious to start there but I wasn't interested when they launched taz at first and now years later it just seems like a big thing to jump into unguided.

...The Gary thing is wrong, maybe it was true earlier but it wasn't in the version I am currently listening to? There is no Gary intro (just starts with the normal theme music, no weird silence) but that's for a reason that becomes obvious once you, you know, listen to the podcast episode you're posting about.

And while I'm not far enough in to say the other stuff does or doesn't happen, yes, there are a lot of NPCs because this is the climactic battle where the party and all their allies--so... the NPCs--defend the school. At least thus far, there has not been any NPCs-talking-to-each-other-for-5-minutes bullshit that he used to do earlier on.

Lol I like it inasmuch as I mildly enjoy listening to it. It's my least favorite TAZ campaign and I have plenty of problems with it. I really did not like the Mission: Imp Hospital episodes but the campaign has been alright otherwise.

I'm curious if they'll be dropping the final outro gag or not, with the loss of Yahoo Answers. Waiting for the final at the end of the episode is the only thing that has me listening to them shilling shirts and pins and what not.

Best out of 71?
I did enjoy Amnesty, especially at the beginning, but I couldn’t really tell you anything that happened in it. The long waits between episodes and complexity of the plot left my scratching my head at what the hell was going on. I remember the morgue ending got me really excited for a bit but I still don’t get what the shapeshifter was or the quell or why Sephiroth showed up.
