drat, I need to go back and watch some older seasons, Iíve missed a lot of SVU before season 11.

One thing from more recent episodes of SVU that Iíve enjoyed: the past few times theyíve investigated a crime that happened on a porn site or an app the owner has been played by John Waters. I donít even think it was the same character either since I donít think the other characters recognized him as the same guy iirc. Kind of hope that itís just him every time and nobody notices that all the porn site owners look exactly the same

edit: poo poo, sorry that image was so huge, phoneposting

If there's any justice he's also the same guy that was extradited from NY to Baltimore in that L&O/Homicide crossover episode.

The episode where Dodds died, you pretty much knew from the second that the episode started that he was giong to die. It was hilarious even though it was sad.

I liked Dodds.

I mean, its also the last possible well for an L&O series. I mean, I guess Trial by Jury tried to show both sides but I kinda like the idea of seeing the defense lawyers prepping for McCoy.

Solution to the problematic nature of Elliott Stabler: have him work as a PI for defence lawyers where he beats up corrupt cops to get the real story.

This has the same feel as when Sea World made a bunch of kids' nature shows after Blackfish was released, trying to make it seem like they did a lot to conserve local wildlife and weren't all that interested in the theme park thing.

Oh No.

I gotta say one of the worst SVU tropes (beyond the diminishing role of the DA so we can have more squad time) is their decision to commit character assassination on just about every one they can. Oh you're leaving? Guess you were awful and have to die, go to jail, or whine on the way out.

I am mildly impressed they managed to make this episode of Law and Order (S20E20, "The Taxman Cometh") about the Bush tax cuts. That's a level of contrivance that's worth appreciating.

I haven't watched SVU in years since I stopped getting cable, I miss the absolute insanity that show descended into and I really need to catch up since they gave Stabler his own show. Is it bad in a bad way, bad in a good way, or Actually Good?

Fun fact, both Terrence Howard and Alfred Molina were also in SVU! Terrence Howard as Deputy District Attorney John Dekker, the same character he portrayed in LA and Alfred Molina as... *checks notes* a rapist! So, probably not the same character.

Even funner fact, Diane Neal was two different characters that were both on SVU, first as a rapist and murder accomplice, then a few years later as ADA Casey Novak.

Rollins was a rape victim, Carisi did something and Sisto was a defense attorney one episode before he became a detective!

Admittedly, that was the end of one season/start of the next, so it was less obvious at the time than it is in syndication.

Letís not forget Jerry Orbach as a defense attorney in season 2, S. Epatha Merkerson as a cleaning woman early on season 1, and Annie Parisse as a stripper. Ice-T was in Exiled as a pimp or something. Iím pretty Raul Esparza was accused of killing a woman during rough sex (Which they showed a hilarious video of!) in a late season episode of vanilla L&O as well, along with some others Iím probably forgetting.

One of the best of these was Andre Braugher appeared in the original L&O as his character from Homicide, then years later shows up as a separate defense attorney character in SVU, and asks Munch if theyíve met before.

Michael Emerson was two different creepy bug-eyed killers, but he's kind of cheating because he's never been cast as anything else unless he's a series lead in something.

And Locke's dad from Lost was a pharmaceutical executive who killed people with HIV-infected hemophilia drugs and the killer from the TURN ON THE SUN episode.

It's on TV a lot. Like, literally, right this moment, it's on We TV. They have all 20 seasons and show them on different days, but they're on different rotations. Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon/evening are currently showing season 7, and it's also on most of Sunday afternoon, where they're on season 3. Ion has something like seasons 13-20, which they show a few mornings a week until about 10 or 11 AM, currently around season 19. BBC America also shows it, at least on Monday nights. They're on season 6 or so right now and show at least the early seasons, but I don't know how far into the series they carry or if it's on any other days.

Yay, I'm watching original L&O right now and enjoying it so far: it's season 1, episode 12 with a bombing at an abortion clinic. Have only figured out one two characters' names so far but I liked this line: "Look at us, three men discussing which rights a woman should have over her body. Doesn't that strike you as a little one-sided?" I don't remember how things were in 1991 with regards to abortion rights but it's a more nuanced treatment of the issue than I was expecting for the time period going into it, I guess!

Anyway now I'm addicted to this too, gently caress.

Yep. Dann Florek was in the first three seasons of Vanilla before he was let go due to NBC mandate (the show was dipping badly in the ratings, so NBC ordered Dick Wolf to put some women in the cast; previously it was an entirely male starring ensemble), but he did a few more guest appearances on Vanilla and also had a supporting role in the Exiled TV movie that starred Chris Noth. Wolf had always respected that Florek was a loyal soldier, came back a few times when offered and didn't do any public complaining when he got sacked from Vanilla, so when he was looking for a squad commander for SVU, Florek was the first person he called and a deal was struck relatively quickly.

Rubber Room is absolutely a phenomenal episode, and given the procedural and episodic nature of the show, it works out incredibly well as a series finale, even though it was absolutely in no way intended as such. Just another happy accident, which happened to Law & Order quite a bit throughout its 20-year run.
